View 1 Replies View RelatedI use Alien Bob's mirror-slackware-current.sh with an excludes.txt to only download the parts of current that I want. Unfortunately it is not working for part of the exclude.txt file and I am at a loss to know why.

This ignores e/ f/ y/ testing/ pasture/ source/ and usb-and-pxe-installers/ It also ignores most of kdei/ and /extra It is meant to ignore most of extra/source and just download the source for flash-player-plugin, but it is ignoring all of extra/source/, however the same syntax is working for kdei/ and extra/.
I've a multiboot machine and I recently installed Slackware64-13.1 on sda33. I added menu entry in SUSE boot loader and configured menu list as per [URL].. it returns GrUB error 15. Here is my menu list entry for Slackware -

I followed all the instructions in the UPGRADE.TXT to upgrade Slackware 12.2 to 13.0. After I completed it, I ran

I am a slackware 13.1 user , and for the first time today I tried to use slackpkg to update my chromium ( I did everything by hand before ), but unfortunately it did something .... while it was prompting everything it was doing , I saw it removing all my main utilities such as exec, grep, sh .... After the operation completed , I was unable to run anything , everything I clicked on generated the message ( I dont actually remember clearly ) KDE/init/ ' unable to open terminal' Now that I rebooted my system , I get the following error :

I recently created a slackware package out of EudoraOSE and installed it on my laptop. It ran fine. However, when I tried to install it on my compaq desktop, I got the following message:

I have been given a new old computer, Asus K8N-E with a 2GHz AMD Athlon 64.OpenBSD and Debian works like a charm. But with Slackware 13.1, LILO won't be installed properly. There are two disks: a 10GB ATA-drive with the system and a 250GB SATA-drive as a data repository.
Apparently the computer insists that the SATA is the first disk. Subsequently the bootable partition is not on the first disk and disables LILO to be installed. This is when I try to install LILO to a partition. When it is installed to MBR, it says something about overlapping and can't boot.
Just installed Slackware 13.1 and I'm trying to disable tap to click on my touchpad. When I run "synclient MaxTapTime=0" it turns off. But the next time I restart X, the settings won't hold. I tried putting Option "MaxTapTime" "0" in xorg.conf, but it didn't work. This is my mouse portion from xorg.conf generated from the nvidia driver from slackbuilds.

got a client which rebooted one of their slackware servers and would not come up.Server is stuck at Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: unable to mount root FS.I have booted into a live cd and mounted hdd1 but have not been able to get any further.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI had a perfectly working basic 13.0 install on hda4; I installed 13.1 on hda1 and added lilo with an entry for each using expert mode during setup but now neither will boot from this lilo (both try but fail along the way; 13.0 comes up with some errors about sda and 13.1 screen turns black and does nothing) During the 13.0 startup it seemed to use the 13.1 kernel as there was a penguin in the top left instead of the "cat wearing a mask" image that usually shows when it boots.
I think 13.1 installed perfectly and the screen going black is another issue (I don't know why I think that but I just feel it did, it gets further along in boot up)I've managed to get 13.0 back up and bootable by chrooting in and reinstalling lilo but strangely I had to go into its lilo.conf and change sda4 back to hda4 (before this install it had been hda4 and I can't understand why it had changed) I'm running an advent 7101 laptop and have had 12.2 and 13.0 dual booting previously.
When I attach usb device or insert CD or DVD disc, I get warning(see attachment)with this text

I can mount any device successfully as a root
So the problem must be I don't have enough rights
I added myself to cdrom group with: usermod -a -G cdrom "username"
and looked in /etc/group There is a line: cdrom:x:19:"username"
i got into serious harddrive detecting issues after an upgrade from slackware 12.2 to 13.0, it simply doesnt seem to find them anymore. ide drive giving lost interrupts and sata drive not being found. when i boot a slackware 13.1 install dvd i get the same issue. but when i boot a 12.1 slackware install dvd it works fine.
to me it seems that something changed in the kernel between these releases which causes this, but i wouldn't know what and how to fix it. i tried searching here and googling but probably not using the correct keyboards. anyone got a clue what to try? i find it hard to believe that this mobo / chipset (which arent the latest but not that old or weird either i believe) arent supported anymore.
I installed slackware 13 reacentlyi was trying to build wvstreams and wvdialwhen i give the ./wvdial.Slackbild it runs for quite some time and at the end while creating the package it gives me an error cannot find gzip compression utility in $PATH. and there is no tgz or txz package in /tmp folderthen i ran pkgtool and found that gzip isnt installed. the i installed it from the slackware dvd. but still i am getting the same error

Also put Alien Bob's multilib on.need it for my Absoft fortran compiler.The problem I'm having is that VirtualBox-3.1.6 doesn't install. I've looked at other problems on the list related to this and I don't think that any of the ones that I've seen applies to my situation. My feeling is that there is an incompatibility problem with gcc. The stock kernel was compiled with gcc-4.4.3 which comes with Slackware64-current. However, Bob's multilib backdates this to gcc-4.3.3. So, when the Virtualbox installation procedure runs it sees a kernel compiled with a version of gcc that is different from the one that is currently installed and chokes. recompile the kernel with the current gcc. Haven't done a kernel compile in a long time though and I'd like to get it right. So, my question is "Is the stock .config file in the linux source folder the one used to configure the default kernel?". I like the stock kernel and would like to recompile with all the bells 'n whistles in the stock kernel.

View 5 Replies View Relatedi got a problem in my laptop so i moved the hdd from a laptop to another one like it slack worked but win 7 didn't so i booted slack moved my files from the windows partition to the slack one the i formated the windows sector now i can't go to the Slackware and boot it and i have my files in the /home/root/Desktop so i did try to boot a live cd but i can't access to this file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed an Asus P7P55D PRO motherboard and now I can't mute Master channel with alsamixer, even not using KDE mixer. Probably ALSA doesn't support properly, despite I upgraded alsa libraries (alsa-lib-1.0.21a). The key to increase or decrease the volume through keyboard works fine, but the key for mute is not working. These are the alsamixer values:
Card: HDA Intel
Chip: VIA ID 444
I also used alsaconf command and it detects a snd-hda-intel board. I have a G15 keyboard and I even tried to make a shortcut with KDE mixer, but it doesn't work. Is there any way to solve it or have I to wait for a new version of alsa? I use Slackware64 13.0 with kernel 2.6.32.7.
I am running Slackware -current. Every thing was working fine and suddenly it stopped. I am unable to connect to the router or the internet. Which is a problem since I'm using it right as a server.

Everything worked fine. My computer was working too, but my internet wasn't. Since it works on the original kernel, I know that maybe it's something I was supposed to install as part of "make [variable]config" The network icon is there, but it doesn't connect automatically as 2.6.39.3 does if that helps as a part of the description.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently setup my X to work well with the newer version of the ATI driver for my Radeon 3650, however no matter what I do, I can't get mplayer to scale to fullscreen. Something that xine has no trouble with. I have tried the x11, sdl, xover, gl, and gl2 outputs which all make no difference. Am I missing an output, or is something not working as it should? In particular, why is xine fine, while mplayer stumbles? As an unrelated question, it is possible to set mplayer to skip to a next file in a directory? From what I could tell, it does not seem to have this functionality built in.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI downloaded NetSecL today to try it out and see what it contains. At first I tried installing it to USB, which after reboot gave me a kernel panic. So I tried installing to my spare laptop, dedicated for testing. Installation went flawless, no errors whatsoever, but when I rebooted the strangest thing happened.
Half of my screen was filled with 07 07 07 and nothing else. No errors on screen, nothing. Not even the LILO boot screen, which I got when booting from USB (just before the kernel panic).
I've used this particular laptop (HP Compaq NX7010) lots of times with a variety of OS and LiveCD, just to try and test, and never have I seen this before.
what this strange behaviour is? I tried installing another OS but got the same behaviour, so I booted from GParted LiveCD, formatted the disk and created a new partition table. After that I was able to install whatever OS I wanted (except the NetSecL).
I am currently running KDE4.4.1 from AlienBob, and now with the change to BST I noticed that my clock hasn't changed. So I go to change it through SystemSettings and it shows a message thus:-

This happens as both normal user and root. Googling around seems to suggest this error is tied to a Kauth/PolicuKit/polkit problem, which aren;t provided yet in Slackware as far as I am aware.
I am running slackware-current on a thinkpad r61i with ubuntu 10.10 i can connect to router without a problem but not with slackware the router is a belkin f6d4630.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running Slackware 13.37 64 bit. I run it on an HP2945SE AMD Turion x2. I am getting an error during boot up unable to enumerate USB device on port 5. It filters throughout the rest of the boot up commands / results. It doesn't seem to matter if things are plugged up to the USB ports or not. Also it doesn't seem to affect anything on the computer. Its just irritating.
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust installed slackware 13.0 32bits using the usb-based netinstall. Did a minimal cli install and unchecked bash (since I wanted to use tcsh on this particular OS). But now on first boot it tells me that it shows an error message indicating "unable to identify tty name" and won't let me login (I'm using the root account since I haven't yet set up additional users). My question is, is the error happening because I unselected bash during installation? If so, is there any config file that I can modify to get it to recognize tcsh and let me log in? or if that isn't the problem, where do I set then the tty name?
