Fetchmail +sendmail played nice together, until I installed hylafax, and added an alias it requires. I just ran the usual makemap command on aliases to make aliases.db, and that's there the trouble began. Fetchmail appeared to hang, at any email account that had email in it, at the RCPT stage. I finally read the warning at the top of /etc/mail/aliases that says to run newaliases.
For a project that I have been assigned to, I need to send emails to a business partner(business_partner.com) from one production server. However, my emails neither reach their destination nor bounce back to me.
Working with our business partner's IT support, the following error was discovered in their maillogs:
Quote:
Further analysis by my IT support shows that emails are successfully sent out ("Message accepted for delivery"):

The app I coded is not using a public internet email address (e.g. me@hidden_domain_name.com) to send these notifications.
Instead, it uses an intranet email address (the server's where my code resides: user_name@servername.hidden_domain_name.com).
We created an alias but it made no change. Would adding my public internet email address to "trusted-users" file (we use sendmail)
i'm having a hard time to configure sendmail or fetchmail, so that i can send email from a CentOS 5.3 server, is anyone familiar with that? i have a second email server that i believe that Centos server can authenticate to in order to use as relay but i have no clue how to accomplish that.
I'm using sendmail on a small server and in addition to several users I have a few small email lists implemented in the aliases file. Is there any way to secure these aliases so that they can only be used by users with accounts on the machine already?
I'm getting a lot of external spam sent to the lists and I figure this is the easiest way to deal with it. 100% security isn't even necessary if I can stop most of the spam (i.e. causing sendmail to discard any mail sent to the lists that don't originate with the same domain name as the server would kill 99% of the spam since most of it doesn't have a spoofed email matching our server's domain name). I'm using Debian Lenny.
Have tried to setup email aliases in sendmail so I can have multiple address pointing to one linux login. However none of the aliases seem to be accepting mail.
I get the following error message when trying to send to them.
I have tried restarting sendmail, have mapped the /etc/mail/virtusertable across to virtusertable.db with the following command.
Code:
Output of sendmail -bv is as follows and looks correct.
Code:
Have also added new domain into local-host-names file. I am stuck on what is left to check and why the messages are getting bounced back.
I found this page to have the configuration of : but I have to adapt and get always errors. [URL] What are the minimum configurations so that one can do : echo test | mutt me and it sends it via msmtp and mutt one can read his emails using hte imap enabled on the account?
I'm setting up a full server configuration on Fedora, moving it from Mandriva which sadly faces a rather uncertain future. Things are going well and I will be ready (and more familiar with Fedora) in time to upgrade to Fedora 15.
What I have done so far in regard to networking setup:
I first removed Network Manager and replaced it with the network service (chkconfig --level 25 network on). That put an end to the overwriting of /etc/hosts, which now reads simply:
How can I get aliases working as root? Here is my Slackware 13.1's /etc/profile file followed by my *Slackware 11's* /etc/profile file [as a comparison]. My Slackware 11's root aliases work in addition to my username ones *without* needing a separate .bashrc in my home dir. In S13.1 I have created a .bashrc for my username and it works fine, but I want those same aliases operating when I'm root, and cannot for the life of me figure how to achieve it.
S13.1 /etc/profile: # /etc/profile: This file contains system-wide defaults used by # all Bourne (and related) shells. # Set the values for some environment variables: export MINICOM="-c on" export MANPATH=/usr/local/man:/usr/man export HOSTNAME="`cat /etc/HOSTNAME`" export LESSOPEN="|lesspipe.sh %s" export LESS="-M" # If the user doesn't have a .inputrc, use the one in /etc.....
I am running KDE and currently using Konsole as my terminal emulator. I am finding that if I start a konsole from the menu list I can type alias and see a list of default aliases plus the ones I have define in my .bash_login file.
The problem seems to occur on restarting KDE. I generally leave everything open and when KDE restarts everything comes back. Saves me having to do it myself.
Unfortunately when the konsoles pop up they no longer have the aliases. There will be none of the predefined ones, nor the ones that I have defined.
Would I be better off using a more standard alternative like xterm in this case or is this something that has a simple explanation?
I suspect it has something to do with not being a login shell. If I look at the Profile in the menu for the konsole it specifically says "/bin/bash -l" for the command on the new one that I opened up, but "/bin/bash" for the one that was automatically brought back.
Is there some reason KDE would do this? Running Slackware 13.1 64 bit. KDE 4.4.3
In my continuing quest to live without X most of the time, I am trying to set up fetchmail and Mutt to get and send mail. I only want to be able to send and receive text based mail, and so far I am running into trouble with what I think should be pretty simple. For receiving my mail, I believe I only need to create a .fetchmailrc file in my home directory with the entry:
Code: poll [URL] protocol pop3 username "myusername" password "mypassword" But I get: 2 messages for myusername at mail.myISP.com (7965 octets). fetchmail: connection to localhost:smtp [127.0.0.1/25] failed: Connection refused. fetchmail: SMTP connect to localhost failed fetchmail: SMTP transaction error while fetching from wetumpka@mail.btopenworld.com and delivering to SMTP host localhost reading message myusername@pop-smtp.ISP.mail.fy5.b.yahoo.com:1 of 2 (2734 octets)fetchmail: Query status=10 (SMTP)
It appears to me that it is finding mail but does not know where to deliver it and is refused a connection to my machine. Also, I cannot figure out how to set up my SMTP for my ISP in Mutt to send mail. Can someone point me to a simple tutuorial on how to do these things. I really only want to do what you would with Thunderbird, but from the command line.
I recently tried to upgrade my Slackware server's sendmail software from 8.14.3 to 8.14.4 and ran into a problem. In a nutshell all outbound non local mail is routed through a smart host requiring authentication. As a result I use a modified version of the "sendmail-slackware-tls-sasl-clamav.mc" to build the sendmail.cf. However, when I tried to run sendmail 8.14.4 with my newly created sendmail.cf I was greeted with the following.
Warning: Option: AuthMechanisms requires SASL support (-DSASL) Warning: Option: AuthOptions requires SASL support (-DSASL) Warning: Option: CACertPath requires TLS support Warning: Option: CACertFile requires TLS support
[Code]....
Apparently SSLv2 is now considered weak and the directive is a good idea, but at present this directive is not supported by the sendmail in this package.
How to send mail using sendmail on slackware? Can you show me a simple bash program that sends a message to an email? I am new to slackware and I can't send my email using sendmail command. I checked my mail queue on my Webmin and i see this status "access map: lookup [URL]..
So I'm having troubles setting up a mail server. First of all, anyone want to try to telnet into <snip> on port 25 and see if it's blocked? I don't think it is, but you never know. How long does it usually take for MX records to get around? I've had this set up for about a day now and still don't see any MX records on any lookup site I go to. I'm currently using slackware 12.2's default sendmail configuration. Should I change anything? I started sendmail on my laptop and got emails going within the LAN but I cannot send emails over WAN (i.e. to/from yahoo or google accounts).e?
im just wondering is it possible to instruct mailx to use postfix instead of sendmail while have sendmail and postfix installed? like system-switch-mail way in other distros. basically i would like to be able to use mailx when i uninstall sendmail and keep postfix only installed, so i dont get msg after i press . to send email from mailx
Code: /usr/sbin/sendmail: No such file or directory
I should say that I'm not an expert of linux or sendmail. On my way to learning I'm trying to setup my sendmail server at home using free dydns account(server1.dyndns.org). I can send and receive emails to/from @hotmail, @yahoo, @gmail (the ones I've checked).
Code:
Following is access file (access.db created using makemap hash)
Code:
Now I'm trying to forward emails coming to my local inbox(tux@server1.dyndns.org) to my hotmail account. For this to work, server1 should be able to RELAY messages originated from hotmail.com, so I added hotmail.com entry to access file. Also I've made ~/.forward file:
But the problem is I receive an error message in /var/log/maillog & also a message is sent to root@server1:
I'm configuring sendmail that runs on Linux Slackware but find some difficulties to do some quick startup due to its complexity and massive documentation. Suppose I want to configure a sendmail that can serve 2 domains: ethereal1m.no-ip.com ethereal2m.no-ip.com
I use noip2 client software to connect with noip server that translates the dynamic IP addressed domains, setups POP, and does forwarding. By having 2 domains, I want to able to send email between admin@ethereal1m.no-ip.com and admin@ethereal2m.no.ip.com;therefore, my machine acts as both a server and a client. How can I setup sendmail so that it acts as both server and client? How to register email address and its domain on sendmail?
It seems my sendmail (running in slackware 13.0) cannot send out emails correctly. I guess I need to tell it what is the smtp server to use. And, I heard, gmail's smtp server is available to use for this purpose. How to configure my sendmail this way?
Built an MTA/LDA Slackware Server and seperate MDA (Dovecot 2.2) Slackware Server. Used the slackwiki Sendmail TLS SMTP-AUTH guide for the MTA/LDA Server.
http://www.slackwiki.org/index.php?t...TH&redirect=no The ../cf/cf/sendmail-slackware-tls-sasl.mc config file has Procmail sorting as: FEATURE(`local_procmail',`',`procmail -t -Y -a $h -d $u')dnl
I don't understand the arguments ($), but know the -Y forces mbox. The /var/mail directory is hardlinked to where ever the spool directory is. I want the Dovecot MDA server to use NFS or UNFS to grab user's mail from the MTA/LDA Server. Problem is the hardlink. Can't nfs share a hardlinked directory.
Is there a way to change the MTA sendmail mc config file above to have LDA promail send to /home/mail, so I can nfs that directory? And preferably in MAILDIR format? BTW: I can't find any procmailrc config file on this Slackware Server. I should have all the settings in my /etc/mail/sendmail.cf config.
I am using webmin for my daily tasks. I have fedora 13, whenever I click on ''Sendmail M4 Configuration'' or Outgoing Addresses (generics)'' I get the following error message
Quote:
The Sendmail M4 configuration base directory /usr/share/sendmail-cf was not found on your system, or is not the correct directory. Maybe it has not been installed (common for packaged installs of Sendmail), or the module config is incorrect. I read documentation at sendmail.org, it seems that structure of directories for send mail has been changed in version sendmail-8.1.4 shipped with FC13. In webmin config module we have
Quote:
Sendmail M4 base directory = /usr/share/sendmail-cf
which is not there. I did a locate / sendmail-cf on the command line, it finds nothing
I have been trying to set up ssmtp so I can send email using Gmail's ssmtp servers. However, when I try to send mail (using mailx), I get the following message:
Code:
Can't send mail: sendmail process failed
Here's the last line from dmesg (the only one applicable, according to the timestamps and message content):
Code:
[484114.608378] sendmail[17975]: segfault at 0 ip b7dbbbf3 sp bfb0dc4c error 4 in libc-2.11.2.so[b7d44000+14e000]
Here's my ssmtp.conf:
Code:
# # /etc/ssmtp.conf -- a config file for sSMTP sendmail. #
I recently modified sendmail.cf to use a third party SMTP server to send emails. It works great. But when I run sendmail from the command line, I have to specify the -C flag and force feed it the location of my sendmail.cf, or else it doesn't work.
So in other words, the following works great:
However, if I don't specify the -C flag, sendmail doesn't consider what's in the sendmail.cf and barfs:
I don't run sendmail as a daemon. I'm only using it to send emails. I know my modifications of sendmail.cf are correct because it works perfectly when I use the -C flag. I searched my disk to see if I could find another sendmail.cf on the machine and only the one in /etc/mail came up.
Why sendmail is not reading my sendmail.cf?
I'm running Sendmail version 8.14.2 on Fedora Core 8.
I am using fetchmail for fetching mail from server by using this command:
Quote:
fetchmail -d10 -F -K pop.gmail.com
it work fine but it stops working after a while or does not fetching emails every 10 sec it receives randomly one time 1 min one time 2 min one time 30 sec and so on.
