it took me 2 minutes to find a guide on how to configure mutt to view my gmail account, but i can't go any further... mutt has a kind of patch or extension to manage labels (view, edit, apply, etc), but i can't figure out how i could make it an automatic procedure... fetchmail + procmail seems to be the best solution, but (before spending a night with any effort)

This version of mutt seems to be broken ... at least as far as working with motion and msmtp to automatically transmit detected video images to my e-mail account.
I don't see any errors, mutt simply doesn't transmit the data via msmtp as it should.
I switched back to the version of Mutt in Slackware 13.1 and the automatic transmission of video detected by motion and transmitted by mutt via msmtp started working properly.
I've been running Courier IMAP for many years now, but when I added gmail's IMAP to my Outlook I noticed something interesting: when you delete a message, it gets thrown into the trash instantly.
With Courier IMAP (or any other IMAP server, for that matter), when you delete, it first marks it for deletion. Then after you Purge Deleted Messages it either gets rid of them or moves them to trash.
Is there a way to implement this in Courier IMAP?
Does anyone know how to configure msmtp to sed mails via gmail?
In mandriva it is done by modifying a file :
etc/msmtprc.conf
where you state your gmail account details.
Currently if I try to sent an email with my recently installed msmtp, I get the following message:

I'm running 11.04 desktop 64 bit and have smartmontools and mdadm set to send automated test emails at bootup (I have a RAID5 setup).I'm using msmtp with a gmail account. When I'm logged in, I can manually send test emails with both smartmontools and mdadm; neither will send me an email at bootup even though they are set to do so. The msmtp log at bootup has a smtp.gmail.com exitcode=EX_NOHOST.why it can't find the smtp server at bootup but has no problem once I'm logged in and test it manually? Is there some dependency that isn't loading in time at bootup???

I only want to be able to send and receive text based mail, and so far I am running into trouble with what I think should be pretty simple. For receiving my mail, I believe I only need to create a .fetchmailrc file in my home directory with the entry:

It appears to me that it is finding mail but does not know where to deliver it and is refused a connection to my machine. Also, I cannot figure out how to set up my SMTP for my ISP in Mutt to send mail. Can someone point me to a simple tutuorial on how to do these things. I really only want to do what you would with Thunderbird, but from the command line.

Mutt can only read email's from my gmail account, but no emails can be send through gmail to the Internet. I need some guide for Mutt , don't know how to configure it , for sending emails via my gmail account. I tried many muttrc conf files from the Internet and even tried to configure my own muttrc file , but still no luck. Unless I'm wrong, the key message is
Server certificate verification error: unable to get local issuer certificate
Fetchmail +sendmail played nice together, until I installed hylafax, and added an alias it requires. I just ran the usual makemap command on aliases to make aliases.db, and that's there the trouble began. Fetchmail appeared to hang, at any email account that had email in it, at the RCPT stage. I finally read the warning at the top of /etc/mail/aliases that says to run newaliases.

I've seen a bunch of other posts on this topic but they haven't solved my problem. I just installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04. Love it so far. Except, I can't figure out how to setup my gmail account in Evolution so that I can see the emails on the server or download them locally. I had it working before both in 8.04 LTS and a flash drive install of UNR 9.10. I really can't figure out why it is so difficult this time.Gmail settings are/were already on IMAP - checked while logged in through browser.In Evolution, I've tried changing the account name, user name (for receiving mail), etc. and different combos of same settings. The receiving mail settings I'm using for IMAP authentication are password and save password. Security is set to SSL.Evolution tries to access the server but never asks for a password. Likely, because something is wrong with my settings. I just don't know what.

I have used mainly thunderbird/icedove to access my mailboxes via imap.However, now two of them have really several tens of thousands of emails I often experience difficulties in dealing with them (the connection often freezes, browsing my folders is a pain).I tried also sylpheed and claws, but the situation has not really improved.I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong in the way I configured my accounts on the various clients (actually, some of them even boast automatic setup of gmail accounts).

There is supposed to be an imap:// kio slave, but I can't get it to login to my Gmail. I tried imap://username@gmail.com but no luck. I also tried [URL].. since I think the username has to include the @gmail.com part. But still no access.

For receiving mail my server is set to imap.gmail.com:993 and my user name is ___@gmail.com
I'm using SSL and the authentication type is "Password"
If I click the "Check for supported types button, the "Please wait. Querying server for a list of supported authentication mechanisms." window pops up, but it never finishes.
When I try to sync my mail, evolution doesn't ask for my password, and the send and receive mail window displays my account as "Scanning folders in "IMAP server imap.gmail.com" indefinitely.
Running Evolution from the terminal doesn't seem to print any IMAP related errors only

POP works fine, but that isn't really an option.
I'm trying to set up my gmail account with Evolution. I am trying to set up a mail client where -
1) All the mails are stored locally, so that I can work offline. When I reconnect, the client (Evolution) syncs with the server - sends emails and updates any changes.
2) All the labels/folder system to be respected and retained.
After struggling with various sites that argued Pop3 and IMAP (numerous blogs and google searches), I came across this conclusion (pls correct them if they are wrong)-
1) Pop3 allows mails to be stored locally, but will not break them up into folders.
2) IMAP will allow the folder system, but will only store the headers of mail on the local server, and the content will be downloaded as per request.
1) Will Pop3 access allow syncing between the local version and the server version? For instance, a mail read in Evolution should be marked as read when I sign into the web-interface as well.(I can always create a filter/rule that replicates gmail filters)
2) Will IMAP allow me to store all mail locally (isn't this exactly what IMAP is not!)? The combination of imap-gmail-evolution was not so successful when I tried it out - too slow!
PS: I would prefer Evolution over Thunderbird so that I can integrate the Calendar. However, if ThunderBird is the easiest solution, then it's fine too...
I'm trying to connect to Gmail to pull my emails from the Gmail site, via the IMAP/POP3 access server. However, I can't seem to connect to the server when in Ubuntu code...
And it hangs here indefinitely. However, if I reboot my PC into Windows, it connects fine. I've turned off UFW so I would expect the connection to work. I've also been able to POP3 into other servers, so it seems to be something specific to the gmail IP.
Anyone else had the same problem or know how I can debug/fix this?
I'd like to configure Evolution (or Thunderbird) to delete Gmail messages. When I select messages and hit "Delete", the messages go to my local trash and they loose their Inbox label in Gmail. I would like that in Gmail, they loose their Inbox label and go to [Gmail]/Trash so that they'll be deleted after a month.
Could I configure the "delete" key of my keyboard to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ? Could I configure another key to move msg to [Gmail]/Trash ?
What other solution ? Because moving to the trash is not convenient, it takes a lot of time without a key shortcut.

I am trying to set up Mutt to use my Gmail account. I've followed this tutorial, and I've been able to use IMAP to download and view my messages, however, when I try to send a message I get a error message, "No authenticators available". I've tried using 587 and 465 for the smtp port. 465 results in Mutt freezing and only being closed with kill. Does anyone have any idea? Anyone currently using Mutt with Gmail without the issue's I'm experiencing?
