Has anyone had any luck getting a slackbuild to work with the newest version of skype 2.1.0.81? I tried with the static binary but when I go to execute skype I get a segfault. I also tried with a different slackbuild and it doesn't work either.
Goggles music manager no longer works in my current install. When I first upgraded, it was complaining about ligtag-extras library not existing, but this was because the version got upgraded. So I recompiled, and now it just segfaults, both with the slackbuild version (0.10.14) and the latest release (0.10.19). Here is dmesg:
Code: [ 2687.367214] gmm[4366]: segfault at 0 ip 08089bab sp bfad7ef8 error 4 in gmm[8048000+f8000]
I usually use the following command to join several PDF files in one :gs -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE -q -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOutputFile=output.pdf input1.pdf input2.pdfHadn't have to do it for a while but today, I needed it and thus fired my script.lam! gs segfaults.A quick internet search and I found this :https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/22006Though Arch related, while I'm running slackware64-current, the behaviour was exactly the same as mine.In the above thread, one guy linked to a bug report which seems to be theculprit :http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=691831gcc 4.5.1, gs 9.00, x86_64, indeed, slackware64 seems to be exactly in that situation.
I have a custom program that has been running on Slackware since about 2004. It was running fine on Slackware 13.0, but an upgrade (following the procedure in UPGRADE.TXT) to 13.1 causes the program to segfault on a read/write op to the serial port (details here).
what might have changed between 13.0 and 13.1 that might affect serial port programming? I've been through CHANGES_AND_HINTS but nothing is jumping out at me.
I was trying to play an MP4 (h264) video from Meet The Gimp (in particular, this one) but both xine and dragonplayer would play a couple of seconds of it (poorly) and then segfault and die. The error spew looked like:
Code:
$ xine meetthegimp152.mp4 This is xine (X11 gui) - a free video player v0.99.5. (c) 2000-2007 The xine Team.
[code]....
dragonplayer emitted the same output, so I assumed it was something amiss in one of the libraries they both use. mplayer plays the video, so I'm not without recourse, but it would be nice to know what's up with the segfaults. Anyone seen something like this? System specifics, if it matters:
Just figured this one out and thought I'd post it here in case it helped someone else. Skype just upgraded itself from 2.1 to 2.2. After upgrading it didn't start, and I got the message
"failed to execute child process skype-wrapper" First test out if skype runs from the command line, by running this in a terminal
Code: skype & If it runs, you're good to go: simply right click on the menu, locate your entry for skype and change the command to launch it from skype-wrapper to skype. The reason for this is that in the 2.1 version, skype needed a script called skype-wrapper to set some varibles before start up. Upgrading removes the script, but failed to update the menu entry.
There seems to be a common solution to get the webcam working with Skype - rather than launching with Skype you launch with LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so skype - so far so good. When I do this I get the error There was an error launching the application. Details: Failed to execute child process "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l2convert.so" (No such file or directory). But I do have that directory and file on my system.
A ubuntu community doc talks about the terminal command sudo ld.so.preload-manager when I action this I get sudo ld.so.preload-manager /usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so [sudo] password for dad: sudo: ld.so.preload-manager: command not found
I've created a firewall with iptables rules and saved them into my bin directory (then changed them to executable) However i cant use "sudo firewall-start" it just prints a whole heap of garbage. When i use the "sudo firewall-start" command as root, it works perfectly. Im sure there's a simple solution to this problem, but cant seem to find one in the forums.
I was thinking of creating a little audio alarm clock with an mp3 and mpg123 to play a song from a cron job each day. How do you specify the time of day to execute a cron job?
I've just about reached the end of my limits wrt Skype running in a Windows 7 Guest OS on my laptop. I'm still running pure Slackware64 and avoiding multi-lib on it. I've actually never installed Wine before, I guess just because it was so buggy and didn't work very well back in 1994 or so, and I've never looked back or bothered to give it a consideration since. But I also have to fire up VirtualBox if I want to run QuickBooks or the Adobe Suite. So, my choices at this point are:
1.) continue on the same course w/no Skype under Linux
2.) install Wine and hopefully run Dreamweaver, QuickBooks, and Skype
3.) go multi-lib Slackware and then I'll have Skype (Plus a few other things).
So before I embark on setting up Wine.... Would anyone like to weigh in on what you think some of the pros and cons are for me choosing #'s 2 & 3 at this point?
I've installed Slackware64 and I'm now trying to install skype. Unfortunatly, skype has only 32 bit version. I downloaded the slackbuild script and the installation goes fine. However, when I type /usr/bin/skype it says Code:"bash: /usr/bin/skype: No such file or directory even though there's an executable there. So I suppose the problem is that i'm using 64 bit slackware and the program is 32 bit.Any ideas how to proccede to install the 32-bit skype?
I'm new to Slackware (been on *buntu until now, and use Mint at work). And had to learn some things to make the system do what I want to. That was the aim actually, when I decided to install Slackware 13.1 instead of the Win 7 on my new laptop. And here is one of the two things that I have to do now, to make the system completely the same as I want it to be.I use a black theme - Audacious - on my XFCE on Slackware 13.1. And the skype doesn't use the theme. It stays originally light.
(At work I'm with Mint with LXDE, the same theme. Exactly. And the skype uses it. And looks very good ...)So, I tried the options in the skype options menu - General - Choose style. But no option has the desired effect.I plan to uninstall skype and either install it again from slackbuilds, or just download the static (or the dynamic) one from skype.com. But, if there is something else I can do - I'd prefer this way.PS: There is something curious also - OpenOffice on the Mint distro doesnt' use the theme. But OpenOffice on the laptop use it, and becomes black ... ?? ... I don't know if this tells something, but - I noticed this.
I've downloaded the static .tar.bz2 file for Skype .

Same with Flash, my default browser is Konqueror. explain everything for dummies. I've also created a non-root user (kasu) and when I try logging in, I get the error message; There's no home directory and it can't be created.
I just started using Skype and I am having a problem with the incoming/outgoing audio dropping out. The videoconference will start normal the connection being perfect. The guys on the other end can see me perfectly and can hear me loud and clear for the first say...10-20 secs but afterwards the outgoing audio from my part is dropping off and they can not hear me anymore. They can still see me. I can still be seen on the other end and typing and the share screen works perfect from my part or from their part but they can not hear me anymore..
Or there are days when it goes the other way round. The incoming sound would be dropping out. I can still be seen and heard on the other end and typing and the share screen works prefect but I am not able to hear them. I am using Slackware 13.1 on a XFCE desktop installed from the official DVD downloaded from the official site and the sound works perfect. I have no problem watching videos and hearing the sound in ..... or any other audio-video streaming sites.
I've found that my skype stopped working with recent -current updates ( around beta ... ). It was looking for a libuuid.so.1 library - on checking I found the 64-bit version but no 32-bit version - quite strange as this has been working fine since my original slackware64 13.0 installation. Anyhow, I got the 32-bit util-linux package, did the 32-bit package convert thing and skype is now working:
1. convertpkg-compat32 -i util-linux-ng-2.17.2-i486-1.txz 2. un-archive 3. copy the libuuid lib to /lib and soft-link in /usr/lib
I didn't install the whole compat package as this is not really necessary I think.
I failed to get webcam support on CURRENT with Skype version 2.1.0.81, Skype did not see the device at all (using libv4l).Downgraded Skype to version 2.0.0.72 and webcam works well.
I am running Slackware64-13.1 on my laptop. I need to install skype on it. Searching this forum suggests that I install Alien Bob's multilib [URL] However, skype is the only 32-bit package I need and I will not need to compile any 32-bit software. So what is the minimal multilib install (the minimal set of 32-bit libraries) that make it possible for the 32-bit Skype to run on a 64-bit system? Will running
Code:
ldd /usr/bin/skype
on my 32-bit desktop machine provide me that minimal list of 32-bit packages? Also, will the installation of these libraries somehow interefere with the original 64-bit system?
I'm getting the following errors when I try to start skype:
[code]...
I installed Skype from the slacky.it package HERE. Everything was fine, all was stable and rosey, until I installed Inkscape today. I hadn't even noticed it wasn't running until someone got a hold of me and said they were trying to get a hold of me. When I went to fire it up, thinking that I had somehow inadvertently closed it, it sprang right up for just a second and then was gone. Same thing - three times in row. So I tried starting if from the command line and got that error. I can start it from the comman line as root, with the following error:
[code]...
The deps for Inkscape that I installed, and in the following order, were all from the 13.1 repo, and the ones I didn't already have installed were:
2 sets of skype logs on work PC (Windows) - and I forgot to take a copy when I finished the assignment - and on my own Slackware PC. Would be very useful to be able to have only one set (and same for instant message logs) on my usb memory stick. Is this possible?
i created a /tmp partition amd mounted it like this:" mount -o loop, noexec, nosuid,rw /usr/tmpDSK /tmp" I know i can't execute things in /tmp now but is there a way to execute only one file and no more???
hJust installed brand new Centos 5.6 and skype, according to centos wiki (http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype) Getting these errors: skype: /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by skype)
