I upgraded my wife's machine (nearly identical to mine) and her KDE taskbar is flickering and not responding to mouse clicks. The mouse works on the programs that start at login, but I can not open the k-menu. There are flickering boxes at either end of the taskbar.

Well I just installed Fedora today on my desktop, and it went all smoothly. Mostly. And when I installed a bunch of updates and restarted my computer, my mouse would be able to say ope up Pidgin or FireFox, and then not be able to click on anything else. I could still move the cursor around, and use the keyboard, I just couldn't click on anything. it's pretty hard to troubleshoot when I can't click on anything!
I am having a strange problem with nautilus when I try to go up on level using either the up arrow or the breadcrumbs the button depresses when I click it but nothing happens. If I sit there and click click click about 2 dozen times it will finally respond. I just noticed this today. The machine in question is running 9.10. Maybe this computer is just junk, I mean it only has a 2.8 Ghz Pentium
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using the latest version of SUSE with GNOME 2.32.1. My problem is that a portion of the upper left area of my desktop does not respond to the mouse. That is: if any given application is running and I click on this area of the desktop, it doesn't respond to the clicks. I first realized this using tabs in firefox, then I noticed I couldn't open menus, but I could use the search bar to the right. I attach a link with the image, showing a red rectangle marking the roughly the area I cannot click.

1. Slow responding to clicks - Test in Mouse Preferences demonstrates it readily; the light bulb does not always light up on first click.
2. Activation of alternate window takes more than one click
3. Click on scrollbar's botton arrow remains activate and continues to move even when mouse is lifted.
4. Scrollbar randomly remains active after click on scrollbar's middle (floating) button even if mouse is move to the window area.
5. After a click on icon or link, often mouse icon changes to a hand icon and the icon moves with the mouse. Difficulty unloading this action - takes several clicks.
6. Highlighting is difficult to cancel once it starts.
This problems started with an update in 9.10 to X (which I was trying). Make the system very unusable.
For example I'm setting key F1 & F2 keys mouse 1 and mouse 2 click in keyboard..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm installing slack 13.0 in a Dell 2350 for a friend. once installed, it works ok for a while then within some somewhat random period of time, just plain locks up. the keyboard stops working, the mouse cursor still moves, but there is no response from mouse clicks. i was ssh'ed into the machine one of these times to see if i could read the logs during a lockup. the machine stopped responding to the ssh session as well (actually i had an instance of mc running at the time, and the machine still responded to it. when i exited mc, i was stuck in console never-never land). the logs show absolutely nothing. /etc/messages keeps showing MARK long after the lockup. all other logs are not updated since boot. this machine has an i810 chipset, is there a driver issue here?

View 14 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to 13.1 from 13.0 a few days ago. I have a Toshiba Satellite L3655D that I leave on constantly. Twice now, I have woken up to windows (urxvt and firefox) that don't accept keyboard input. I can paste into them and they respond, clicking is fine, but the keyboard either barely sends or is completely ignored - if I tap a bunch of keys, one or two might go through, eventually. New windows work fine, so I have to replace everything I have open.
edit:I switched to XFCE for 2 days and the issue didn't appear, but my other laptop with the same fluxbox settings also did not have any problems. I switched the original laptop back to fluxbox (and happened to upgrade the ATI drivers around the same time) and haven't had it happen since. If this happens to you, try restarting X.

I put Slackware 13 and the scenarios is:
1. I start the computer and after startx I got black screen, the keyboard is not responding the led of the display is yellow etc. Now I reset the computer,
2. Booting Windoze
3. Choose Restart not Shutdown from Windoze
4. Booting Slack
5. startx works fine, the X server is starting and working great.
I have Radeon 9500. I configured X server with 3D accel over 2500 FPS on glxgears. The same problem persists even with X server VESA configured.
Anyone upgraded php to 5.3.x in slack 13.1?
Could you please share the slackbuild?
In Windows 7 when you hover over an open application in the taskbar, it shows a small image of that application. Is there a way this can be done in Linux?

- You will find that deleting:
/var/cache/hald/fdi-cache
(and of course: /etc/rc.d/rc.hald restart)
- will allow hald to start the correct module:

- instead of trying to start a non-existant file:
/usr/libexec/hald-addon-keyboard
My theory is that since hald is the same version in 12.2 and 13.0, had believed that the cache file held valid information, when in fact it did not. I did not think to check the modification date before deleting the file.
I upgraded to 13.1 and can still login with all users via ssh on a headless machine, but now when I try to login to X via XDMCP I just get returned to the login window. I do not have KDE or kdm installed, but rather use xdm. I was having no trouble prior to upgrade and even had an XDMCP session going during the upgrade, but once I logged out I couldn't log back in. I'm not real sure what's going on.

'call to lnusertemp failed (temporary directories full?)'
When I ctl-alt-backspace there are numerous messages including these two;
'/usr/bin/kde4-config: symbol lookup error:/user/lib/libkdecore.so.5:
undefined symbol: _zn9qlistdatadetach3ev.
and
startkde: error: could not locate lnusertemp in /usr/bin/startkde: line
302::command not found.
Linux 13.0 worked OK right out of the "box" so I don't understand why this version has this problem. Was something changed from 13.0 to 13.1?

I recently upgraded my system from 13.0 to -current using slackpkg. However, I did not go through warnings on the web regarding the exact procedure to be followed (first running install-new and then upgrade-all). I just did a upgrade-all and then rebooted the system. And then the system would not boot and gives a libblkid.so.1 related error. Upon googling, I found suggestions as to booting from the install dvd 13.0, installing the old version of e2fsprogs and then reboot and doing the neccessary changes [URL]... Me being a linux newbie, don't know how exactly to do these things. Can anybody direct me with the list of commands/things to be done to solve this issue?

I did a "upgradepkg testing/kernel*.t?z"
Well just now I realized that there was a kernel-headers package in /testing, and I've heard that you should only use the kernel headers that glibc was compiled with.
So did I make a mistake installing the kernel-headers from /testing?
And if I revert back to the stock kernel-headers package, will I have to recompile all the programs I've compiled with the 2.6.38.4 headers?
I just upgraded to 13.37, and for some reason wicd now cannot connect to my wireless point. It keeps saying the password is wrong, when I know for an absolute fact that it is correct (even changed the password to '1' just to make sure, and no dice. Which is weird because even though its the exact same version of wicd, and not only that, it no longer seems to be able to see networks with my built in card, so having to use a USB card. Anyway, googling turned up very little. Seems to be a common problem across distros, and some people reported that downgrading to 1.6.x fixes it.
So, I ran

And it uninstalled wicd. Downloaded wicd-1.6.2.1-x86_64-1.txz from a 13.0 mirror and did

While in the correct directory. It installed, and I ran wicd. But checking the version number when it loaded, it says its 1.7.0 again.
Not really sure why this happens. I'm assuming there's some remnant of wicd that removepkg doesn't dump, and its preventing me from installing this older version of wicd. What do I need to do for this? If anyone has a surefire way to make 1.7 work again, that would be fine.
I have a new install of Slack 13 and upgrading to current will break a lot of things for my 4 year old son (he's a gnome guy, what can I say). I will be using this machine too, and I NEED KDE, but of course the stock KDE packages are unstable to say the least. I know I've seen people talking of downloading upgraded kde packages for slackware 13, but when I google, I find a lot of things complaining about the stock KDE and of course Eric's packages for current.

Can you call qdbus?" If I try Xfce it gives this similar message, "Failed to execute dbus-launch to autolaunch d-bus sessions. I just installed Stretch on my laptop and I have a problem with the terminals. The system loads fine on KDE and I can use it without issues. However, when I switch to the tty terminals, they move very fast horizontally and slowly vertically as if there is some sync frequency issue. Then if I move back to KDE most of the time it works ok, while some others it starts flickering like the terminals.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Fedora 14. I used pre-upgrade from Fedora 12. I'm using KDE and the nvidia driver.
My problem has to do with the mouse. Basically, only mouse clicks on one window at a time are being handled. If I have Chrome and Thunderbird both open then the mouse will behave normally on Chrome but clicking anywhere on Thunderbird will have no effect. By clicking I mean both left and right mouse button.
To get clicking on Thunderbird to work I have to right-click anywhere on the active window (Chrome in this case), then right-click on the window I want to be active next (Thunderbird). This will allow me to use Thunderbird normally but then Chrome becomes inactive. Typing works even if the window is inactive if the cursor is on the window.
I've found that if I log out and then log back in, the problem disappears. I also tried creating a new user and logging in with that user but the problem still persisted.

they are only on the screen for about one minute, and only in the frame of the game
i have lost left and right click functions in mouse and touchpad. This only happens when in a window - as in running App. when on top or bottom bar L&R click function normally and on cairo doc too. but inside any APP window left click turns into a hand and grabs it and moves the whole window around. Right click pops up the menu to close it , move workstation Right or Left etcetc So it is like the whole window is now like the title bar area
i have to hold Shift+control down to have normal mouse/touchpad function
I was playing with the Sugar App and its an emulator an educational toy for kids
it tells you to hold shift+control down so you can move the mouse out of the sugar window
and to hold Shift+control+any key for keyboard function
god knows what keys i hit
get my mouse / touchpad functions back
i have already removed all the SUGAR apps via synaptic
how to add mouse clicks to keybindings? (apps->metacity->global_keybindings)
P.S: I have fair experience with Ubuntu, 1 year as default OS, and minimal usage before, so no need for basic tips.
