Slackware :: Small SlackDVD Does Not Appear In Media
Feb 3, 2011The SlackDVD appears in Dolphin but not in ls /media.
Why does this happen (or not)?
According to the tutorials I have seen, it should, shouldn't it?
The SlackDVD appears in Dolphin but not in ls /media.
Why does this happen (or not)?
According to the tutorials I have seen, it should, shouldn't it?
I have set System Settings --> Advanced --> Removable Devices to 'Enable automatic mounting of removable media' --> 'Mount all removable media at login' and 'Automatically mount all removable media when attached'.
But, the SlackDVD does not appear in ls /media until after I double-click the 'SlackDVD' in Dolphin.
When I used slackware 13.0 I installed wine 1.1.40 and then I installed an old program, PowerTAB. The font for the mf, mp, and other symbols was very small and unreadable. To solve this I put sylfaen.ttf in /home/darksaurian/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts and this magically fixed the problem. I don't know why or how I figured it out. But now with Slack 13.1 I do the exact same thing, same version of wine, and the font trick does nothing. The mf, mp symbols remain unchanged and unreadable.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat can do I read a dvd media in 13.1 system and not in 13.37?
13.1 fstab and 13.37 are the same.
I tried to read some dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd-rw and dvd+rw medias. I get reading all in 13.1. In 13.37 sometimes!
My DVD player is on /dev/hdc but when I put 'xine /dev/hdc' on the command line I get an error saying 'There is no demuxer plugin available to handle /dev/hdc'. If I use the mount point /media/DVD instead of /dev/hdc it works fine. I am trying to get DVDs to play automatically but I can't see how to get xine to look for /media/DVD instead of /dev/hdc. I have tried changing the location on the Settings -> Media tab, and the line which says 'directory a media in dvd device will be mounted' in ~/.xine/config but neither worked.

When I connect the device it is shown in lsudb:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0d8c:c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter
Do i need to have the snd_usb_audio kernel module. However when is call modprobe snd_usb_audio I get: Fata: Module snd_usb_audio not found.
I though that snd_usb_audio was not build with the kernel, so I did:
Without making any modifications the .config the file already has CONFIG_SND_USB_AUDIO=m . Does this mean that the current kernel has that module? If so why I cannot load it?
I already know how to replace the kernel used to boot up the cd installer. /kernels directory. What I really would like to know is, is it possible to replace the kernel that gets installed by default with my own kernel build? Currently I have my kernel placed in the /kernels directory and that works fine for startup and installation. But then when I boot off the hard drive the kernel that is being used is not the one I placed in the Kernels directory.

It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder:
MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3.
If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution. This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue.
It said not to contact VideoLAN, but instead the Distro so...here I am. Was there a file I should download in order to fix this? If there is one, where do I place it or run it to stop this error?
I'm thinking of setting up an old desktop (Dell Dimension 4300/512mb RAM/20g&80g hdd) as a media/file server and using Slackware 13 for it. I'm completely new to doing anything server-wise,it of background: I'm running current versions of Zenwalk and Vector on two different laptops, with the Zenwalk one multi-booting Vista and Ubuntu. The desktop in question is running XP and Zenwalk. I have DSL hooked up to a Linksys WRT (running dd-wrt firmware) for network. I'm not a noob, just not in my comfort zone. My goal is, in addition to setting up the server, to get more hands under the hood (so to speak) on improving my linux skills. It was a toss up between Slack and CentOS, and being very familiar with Slack-based systems, I'm going that route.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was trying to change the mounting point of a usb external drive from '/media/disk' to '/media/Movies'
Here is were the stupid part takes over... I right clicked on the desktop icon for the device and selected Properties. From there I selected the Volume tab and in there I changed the mounting point to '/media/Movies' It accepted it and said the changed would take place when I unmounted it and remounted it. However, when I did this it now says it cannot be mounted as it says mount_point contains invalid characters usually /
Unfortunately, now I cannot get back into the properties to remove my error.
I recently put Linux back on my laptop (Vector) and I am trying to get any of the media players on it to recognize and play the music on my desktop, which is running Windows 7 Ultimate with WMP streaming music over my wireless network. I was wondering if this can be done, or if these features have yet, if ever, to be implemented.

I just bought a new hard drive so that I could convert my XP-only machine into an XP-Ubuntu-Windows 7 triple boot machine.Since the drive is absurdly huge (1 TB) I wouldn't mind throwing ReactOS into the mixtoo.I just found out that master boot records are limited to 4 entries, meaning 4 primary partitions. I had Windows XP set up on my old drive as a boot partition, a program files partition and a media partition. Since I really didn't want to install XP from scratch, I cloned this setup on my new drive.
This leaves me one MBR partition entry for installing Windows 7, Ubuntu and ReactOS. I'd like to avoid having to install XP from scratch like the plague, partly because it's supposed to be a safety net in case things go wrong with my other OS's and because I've invested a lot of time getting it set up exactly the way I like it.Here are the options I've considered and why I don't like them:Install Windows 7 on my media partition. This would work, but I prefer to keep my media partition completely separate from any OS, so that I can reformat an OS partition without affecting my media partition at all.
Use wubi or something to install Ubuntu in the same partition as something else. Again, this is brittle.Move all my media to a logical drive on an extended partition. Create another logical drive on this extended partition for Ubuntu. The problem here is that extended partitions are rather brittle--if you nuke one, it renders the rest useless.Just put the old drive back in my computer and run XP off it. Use the new one for the other OS's. The problem here is that the old drive is slower and uses extra power, generates extra heat, etc.
I have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
i'm learning C now, later C++. using DJGPP isn't so nice on MS-DOS yet, no LFNs etc. and other limitations that is only one terminal, no multitasking etc.is there a small IDE for linux console? (i'm using a celeron 333 atm). for C it would be sufficient i guess?what i would need is a wide documentation, help on .h files, includes etc.on MS-DOS i use RHIDE. later on i might use eclipse or code::blocks. read another thread about c/c++ IDE.

I'm looking to run an iptv station for my dorm. I know I can serve multicast so that's not a problem. The station will serve out podcasts and other cc licensed content. The target endpoint is xbmc- a media center. So far I know that I need to serve an rtp stream over udp that's streaming an mpeg-4 avc main or high profile with aac ( or ac3 ?) audio. I've had some luck using vlc with vlm to stream but it seems limited. What are my other options? Everything has to run on Linux- hopefully open source. How can I use playlists and not live streams? What are my software options?

My default screen res is 1366x768, and there is no problem with KDE, Gnome indicates that my res is the same but everything on the screen looks too large. When I lunch an app like GIMP I can't see the inmenu icons, it's not a pain to die but sometimes makes work harder. At first I told it was the way Gnome looks (I have never before run linux on such a high res), but when I boot another distro like Debian everything is OK. Also my display mode is locked to laptop screen and can't be changed.I like my Gnome screen and don't want to move to KDE.

I am moving some code for to work with SPI interface from windows to Linux SUSE platform and for to make it working I have to communicate with some small SPI driver.
I have few libraries generated by that driver:
libi2cbrdg.a
libi2cbrdg.la
libi2cbrdg.so
libi2cbrdg.so.1
libi2cbrdg.so.1.1.0
I am compiling my project with following makefile:
comp: ErrorCodes.h Errors.h FrameDll.h FrameDllHeader.h Framework.h Functions.h TargetProcessor.h Layout1.h ModCommon.h ModScalerDB.h ProxyIDs.h SPIProxy.h SPITuning.cpp ModBiquad.h ModCommon.h ModDeinterleave.h ModFloatToFract32.h
g++ -g -L./lib -li2cbrdg ErrorCodes.h Errors.h FrameDll.h FrameDllHeader.h Framework.h Functions.h TargetProcessor.h Layout1.h ModCommon.h ModScalerDB.h ProxyIDs.h SPIProxy.h SPITuning.cpp -o comp.o
Output:
SPIProxy.h: In member function "virtual int CSPIProxy::_Read(void*, int)":
SPIProxy.h:55: error: "U2C_IoWrite" was not declared in this scope
SPIProxy.h:56: error: "U2C_SpiRead" was not declared in this scope
SPIProxy.h: In member function "virtual int CSPIProxy::_Write(const void*, int)":
SPIProxy.h:65: error: "U2C_IoWrite" was not declared in this scope
SPIProxy.h:66: error: "U2C_SpiWrite" was not declared in this scope .....
But still as u see I have some functions missed I know that they are in these libraries.
Rather simple question, but is there a way to make an archive (simple tarball, no compression needed) out of a very large file and split it into parts? Basically I need a ~1GB file in 25MB pieces.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have recently dropped to a command line to run a DB server. In attempting to write a bit of Python to do this process I went to install emacs using apt-get and noticed that the foot print of the install was going to be around 130 Mb. Likewise with a couple other programs the install size was going to be a lot larger than I anticipated. I was wondering how the footprint could be so large and is there a way to install software without this blow out. While I am happy to use vi or import the code from a desktop with a GUI I think this would be interesting to know.
