View 3 RepliesI read on a forum post that the problem with clicking certain types of flash content was resolved by downloading and install the latest package of flash from adobe's site.
I removed the flash install from the .deb package I downloaded from Adobe and wanted to start over. I am having problems installing flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer due to conflicting packages. How can I start over fresh as if flash was never installed and THEN install flashplugin-nonfree + it's dependencies without any problems?
Here's what happens when I try to remove and reinstall, among other things:
Code:
Yesterday, I was seeking for some Flash Player tweaks for Jaunty. In Adobe's web site I found and installed "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+." That move installed adobe-flashplugin to the system. After I removed flashplugin-nonfree and flashplugin-installer, Interestingly flash videos begin to player smoother; especially in http://www.animefreak.tv/ . Is it just a coincidence or an advantage of "APT for Ubuntu 9.04+"; because it did not exist in Adobe's website one month ago, just ".deb for Ubuntu 8.04+" was available for download.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been using Iceweasel for 4-5 months now, since I installed Debian 6.0 testing. It worked fine and I had to use flashplugin-nonfree from the repositories in order to get flash working, nothing new here.In my last apt-get upgrade, something broke. Not sure if it is the flashplugin or Iceweasel.I tried changing flashplugins (trying the 32bit one, trying the new 64bit, trying another package I found) but every time I go on ..... and click on a video, Iceweasel crashes. The only output I got was "sesmentation fault".So I tried with firefox and Iceape and they worked fine. However the firefox downloaded was 32bit, so I downloaded the 3.6.12 source and compiled it (Forgot to mention i'm on amd64, but who isn't nowadays?).Flashplugin works fine with firefox 64bit, browser doesn't crash, but I keep getting:

can anyone else whos installed 64bit lucid 10.04 build check to see if bbc iplayer or media clips play ? i've got the following installed:
flashplugin-installed
flashplugin-nonfree
but media clips from [url] just seem to be static, pressing on the play now button has no effect. videos media and general flash seems to be fine, just nothing from the bbc.
So I've installed using the minimal installation cd, and I can't get the flashplugin or java to work. When using apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree/jre.I get the error message of: no installation candidate, or it's obsolete/only available from another source. So far I have searched google and forum search, and found nothing, might be I'm just not searching to well. I've tried installing from the backports by the instructions of this link: URL...

the cp's and ln's are from an install.sh from weidu-linux. apparently, i have compiled things in a terrible way. (i'm pretty sure i tried "make install.sh" and then "sudo checkinstall" and the package never went through, but now. now, i'm not so worried about the flash because any time i use apt-get this script of cp's and ln's runs (on the other hand, flash is the only package not working, so maybe this is just a cosmetic issue...). for example, ace of penguins outputs the same stuff (but at least it runs).
I don't want help with the flash issue--i just want my apt-get / dpkg to be clean again! i'll never try to run baldur's gate with weidu mod's again,
Starting today, I have a new problem with "Files & Folders". No matter what file I click on, I get the same error message. For example, "Could not display "/work/photos/2011/March_LA/DSC_1585.JPG" The location is not a folder." Of course it's not a folder, since it is obviously an image file. If I navigate to this same file via Nautilus and double-click, it is opened properly. Is there some way to reset everything Unity back to some sort of default state? The only thing I did recently was to uninstall Thorin (XFCE file manager) which I had previously said to use for folders selected in the Dash. By the way, actual folders now work fine (and come up in Nautilus), but it now thinks everything is a folder. It doesn't make any difference what kind of file (.JPG, .mp4, .gnumeric,...) always the same "not a folder" error.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to use VirtualBox on a 64 bit host (Fedora 12), and install a 64 bit suse guest. I have VirtualBox installed just fine on the host, but when I try to launch the guest (booting from an iso) I get the message "This is a 32-bit computer. You cannot use 64-bit software on it". One thing to note, this host, while 64 bit, does not have the AMD-V extensions. (Not sure if this matters or not). I do however have another 64 bit host with the AMD-V extensions that runs a 64 bit guest just fine.
I confirmed `uname -m` on the host reports "x86_64". I also did a `file /usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox` just to make sure I got the 64 bit version of VirtualBox Any ideas on why the guest os would think the host is 32 bit when it should be a 64 bit system?
II installed flashplayer by every different method I can so far, and all of them have the same problem. This problem presents itself, for example, while playing a video on ...... As the video loads, flashplayer is fine, but as soon as it starts playing, the browser tab begins to run at roughly 1 frame per 10 seconds. When I turn the browser priority to maximum in System Monitor, it improves slightly, going to about 1 frame per second. The strange part is, my CPU and memory usage barely spike at all, to less than 30%. This happens regardless of browser (have tried iceweisel and chrome). It happens with hardware acceleration on, and off. I have tried installing flashplayer from the tar.gz on the adobe website, from the repository (all three packages), and manually placing the plugin in the browser myself. The issue presents itself the same every time.
My system specs are: 1.83GHz duel core intel centrino processor, 3GB RAM, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600. Nothing fancy, but flash player performs as flawlessly as flashplayer can under windows (and also performed well in my previous Ubuntu 10.04LL install).
When i was fixing some with Apache i set /tmp to chmod 777 and now when i try to open Wine it complains that the settings are wrong :PHow do i reset the chmod and chown settings on /tmp?

I posted a blog on how to install 64 bit adobe flash plugin in Ubuntu Lucid in a single command
[URL]
The command is
sudo aptitude remove flashplugin-nonfree flashplugin-installer && mkdir -p flashplugin-64 && cd flashplugin-64 && wget -c http://download.macromedia.com/pub/l..._091510.tar.gz && tar xzf flashplayer_square_p1_64bit_linux_091510.tar.gz && sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/
I had used "sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound" but it report Package flashplugin-nonfree-extrasound is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source

I open up Synaptic Package Manager, I get the dialogue, "You have 1 broken package, use the Broken Filter to locate it." So I do, and I find flashplugin-nonfree. So I try to reinstall it, and the two packages that are installed are flashplugin-nonfree and flashpluin-installer. However, I always get this error message:

It works beautifully.
Now I am running into problems with some websites; they complain the Adobe Flash Player is old.

I obliged to them and downloaded. Everything worked fine.
However, those website still complains about an old Adobe Flash Player.
I just followed the instructions and installed it. Please read the following:
I am doing an online VMware certification course as a part of my education. I can't do it because of this prroblem. It complains about an old Flash Player.
Summary: Does a discrepancy between MySQL client library 5.0.x and MySQL server of 5.1.50 cause "inconsistent behavior", as reported by phpMyAdmin? The longer version: Windows Sysadmin taking the plunge into Linux. I tried to spare you all the rookie questions and did a fair bit of reading. I'm rather happy I was able to get CentOS 5.5 installed and running, configured iptables, got the kernel updated, Apache, MySQL and PHP installed. Then upgraded PHP to 5.2 after I figured out how repos and priorities work.
I got phpMyAdmin installed and running, then decided to upgrade from 2.11 to 3.3.7 but it keeps complaining that my MySQL client libraries are something like 5.0.63, while my server is 5.1.50, and this may cause "inconsistent behavior" or something of the like. So, feeling industrious, I decided to find an updated client.
MySQL-client-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
But it wouldn't let me install it as it conflicted with the default mysql-server installation. I also couldn't remove just the old client, to update to a newer one. So I blew away everything mysql on my server and installed the above client
MySQL-server-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
and that server file. I'm assuming I'm missing dependencies now as phpMyAdmin claims it can't load the mysql extension. Attempting to 'yum' php-mysql tried to install 'mysql' as a dependency, which immediately conflicted with the files I'd installed. At this point I'm wondering if I'm closing in on successfully installing a version that phpMyAdmin doesn't complain about, or if I should even care that it is complaining and just go back to all the repo versions of everything.
# rpm -e MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
error: package MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm is not installed
This is the error I get when using apt-get upgrade or package manager dpkg: error processing flashplugin-nonfree (--remove): reinstall it before attempting a removal.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed a new Linux distro (just to test it) on my usb memory stick, and I'm trying to run it. I don't know if what I did is correct so far, anyways here's what I have:
Grub on sda (internal hard disk)
sdb with no boot loader (memory stick)
In grub I've been doing:
root (hd1,0)
kernel /kernel-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.37-sabayon root=/dev/sdb1 vga=normal
initrd /initramfs-genkernel-x86_64-2.6.37-sabayon
boot
This seems to work (as opposed to when I forgot the root= parameter, which almost destroyed my linux on sda1 ), but during startup the system complains about no root bein found on /dev/sdb1. I also tried (hd1,0), but it didn't change much.
I'm sure I can boot an OS from usb on my computer, so doesn anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
