Whilst trying to install Slackware -current (using the usbboot.img), I'm able to hit enter to boot the hugesmp kernel but when it comes to pressing 1 to select a non-US keyboard map, nothing happens. It's a USB keyboard incidentally.

Is there a -current ISO or must I install 13.1, without KDE, and then upgrade to -current? Or, is it possible to remove 'all things KDE' and then upgrade to -current?

I do find, however, that people like to keep up to date with the -current version, and sadly I can't do that so easily because I live in the middle of nowhere and my only internet is at work. So, I'm looking for a way to download the -current slackware packages and make it into a slackware installation disc (DVD), but I have no idea where to begin - quite literally, I don't know where to find theofficial slackware -current files. I guess after that I have to figure out how to make it into a CD, but that's ok for now
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am trying to use an Apple BT keyboard with a new installation of 10.04.Using Bluetooth Preferences, I discovered the keyboard, and paired with it. No problem with pairing. If I click on the BT icon in the top panel, it indicates that the keyboard is connected. But any text typed on on keyboard does not appear on screen. I opened Keyboard Settings, thinking that I might have to select the connected BT keyboard as the input device. Nothing there. Is there another preference somewhere that has to be set for the BT keyboard to actually work as an input device (as opposed to simply being paired)? My USB keyboard is still connected (and is working). Perhap Ubuntu only tolerates one keyboard device at a time?

And when I restart my computer, I'm given only a few seconds to choose Windows 7 or Ubuntu, I can't choose because my WIRED keyboard is OFF!I don't get it, it's not supposed to go off when it's wired. View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to select a second installed OS on a home server system without display and keyboard? I am putting together a home server (for mail, storage, media streaming) using an Atom-based Ubuntu Server 10.04 on a 4 GB intern flash drive and 2 hard drives for data storage, but no display or keyboard. I want to make periodic full backups of the system (flash) disk and use a second OS (installed on a partition on the hard drive) with a graphical interface (e.g. Xbuntu or PartImage) for maintenance purposes. I can connect remotely (from a Win7 or a Linux computer) to the X-display once the second system is running.
a) how can the second OS be booted on this server without keyboard? Is there a way to tell Grub2 to look at some hardware switch (or file) for the menu selection? The board has a serial and parallel port so I could wire up a switch to some pin of one of these. Also external USB connectors are available on front and back. Or can Grub2 read its default OS choise from some simple file, easily to change from a shell command of the eBox webbased system control internface?
b) I assume the second OS is needed to make a complete backup of the server OS on the flash disk. Can the backup be automated? (i.e. switch to second OS, backup, reboot first OS)
Am carrying out installation of CentOS-5.5 on a Sun fire X2270 server using PXE. The installation starts well but on getting to the keyboard type the installation halts. I have plugged in a USB keyboard unfortunately, am unable to select the keyboard type even on reboot as the keyboard is non-responsive.

I ran the simple installation: Code: lynx --source [URL] Everything downloaded and installed so I logged off, ran xwmconfig and set it to gnome and then tried starting my xserver and my screen turns black with a single white dash in the corner. My keyboard doesn't respond (the lock lights won't turn on) and I'm stuck on this black page. I tried changing xwmconfig back to KDE and the same thing happens

I recently upgraded to slackware-current from Slackware 13 via slackroll, and have only encountered one problem. My file manager no longer thumbnails images, and icons (mostly PNG) aren't appearing no matter what GTK theme is set. Running from the command line produces no errors, and when brought up in something else (say feh /path/to/icon.png) it works perfectly. This is the only hitch I have encountered so far. The same thing happens with emoticons in Pidgin. Does anyone know of a fix?

Installpkg will no longer work, complaining that the rev command is not found. The problem hit with the removal of util-linux-ng. I cp'd util-linux to ~/. Extracted with tar and executed the doinstall. Fixed.
I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).

I updated my kernel in slackware current but can't install lilo, when i was with my old kernel it gave an error about not finding the sda drives (they were named hda before the upgrade).I booted into the slackware 13.0 dvd and modified fstab and lilo.conf replacing hda with sda but lilo still gives an error of not finding sda drives.How can i install lilo so i can boot into my sistem??

I think it's because I've also modified /etc/groups and add an username after audio: and video: group, but I forgot that and had to remove slackware from the machine.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've tried a few different ways to install the ATI graphics driver "fglrx" to get 3D acceleration.If I try to install using the standard file "ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_64.run" from the ATI web site it appears to work but then I discover it actually got an error.I saw a reference to ATI requiring 32-bit libraries to install their 64-bit driver. Is there a link or post that explains how to add the 32-bit libraries. Will that solve the problem, or will I just waste more time trying that?

This ignores e/ f/ y/ testing/ pasture/ source/ and usb-and-pxe-installers/ It also ignores most of kdei/ and /extra It is meant to ignore most of extra/source and just download the source for flash-player-plugin, but it is ignoring all of extra/source/, however the same syntax is working for kdei/ and extra/.
I have been using slackware since version 10.1 and really like it. I have never had a problem until lately, version 13.1 has been stable as a rock for me. The first 2 or 3 updates to current ran well but then the problem started. After installation Slackware would get to the splash screen and bring up the first picture of a disk drive then just hang and never go any further. I do have a good burn on the dvd, have checked the md5 and burned at 4x. then slack 13.37 does the same thing. this is on 4 different computers with several different video boards.

This is not an earth-shattering issue, but, something I've recently noticed with the Chatzilla add-on for Seamonkey in Slackware-current. Maybe it is just my problem.If I add Chatzilla to FF 4.0 everything works as expected, that is, when I launch Chatzilla the default start-up window shows up with a list of IRC servers to click on (freenode being my favourite).
However,when I click on Chatzilla in Seamonkey I get a blank window that shows up, there is no server list. I noticed that the window in Chatzilla went blank for Seamonkey recently after a -current update (maybe a library issue?)
I'm very keen on getting Mumble installed on my slackware -current 64 bit install. I found a slackbuild script for 12.2 here, but changing the version number resulted in failure. I also tried following the build instructions on the Mumble website, which failed with the following.
