Server :: Send Up/down Traps From Router To Snmptrapd?
Apr 8, 2011
I just installed FC14 64 bit system and I am looking to setup a snmp trap server so I can send up/down traps from my router to it which in turn will email me though sendmail. I have installed "net-snmp-utils-5.5-21.fc14.x86_64" and "net-snmp-libs-5.5-21.fc14.x86_64" packages and have downloaded snmptt_1.3 but I don't have the command "snmptrapd". Is there another package I need for this? Could it just be x64 doesn't support it?
Here is some info off the box.
[root@scanserver ~]# uname -a
Linux scanserver 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Feb 7 07:06:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
[root@scanserver init.d]# !rpm
can i know if there is any way to have how many traps are lost wen agents snmp send some traps to a superviser?? are there any OID to have this information??
I need to be able to send snmp traps based on certain severity or content of syslog messages. Can this be done from standard linux? Alternatively, are there MIB's out there that support syslog events so I can get the status from snmp?
We have a situation where we have to set up a server to send traps with information regarding CPU, memory usage, etc. I know snmpd can be set up to allow another process to request snmp information about the server, but can it be done the other way around (have a host send information about itself to another server through snmp)?
I have two virtual hosts that I want to be able to send through one router. I have two seperate dynamic hostnames on dyndns.
Apparently my router allows me to enter two seperate hostnames locally as well: DynDNS Host and Domain Name
Code:
How do I tell the router which is which? Currently I see the same site with both URLs
Do I have to set one vhost to do some 'funky' stuff (black hole in my head when it comes to static routes or BIND? ). And then set the other vhost to host both sites?
I'm running CentOS and an apache webserver. I want to demo a web site 'externally' from two different sub-domains.
I've looked high and low but most examples don't seem to be simply trying to put two different web-sites up to two Dynamic DNS Hosts.
It must be possible, all the pieces are there. I'm just missing the link!
I am thinking of moving the router behind a server and connecting the server directly to the internet via a modem. Are there any security issues related to doing this? or other things I should be aware of. Iptables are implemented on the server blocking access on unused ports.
first time user of F14 here. Used PCLinuxOS so far. Installed F14 fine , got samba up, set the hostname of the box to fedora.linux BUT when I connect to my wireless router (Belkin) the hostname shown in the routers DHCP client list is different: Router shows:
IP Address-----Host Name-----------------MAC Address 192.168.2.4----ralf-FK790AA-ABA-m9---00:22:5F:17:dE:98 In terminal it shows [dagaz@fedora ~]$ hostname fedora.linux [dagaz@fedora ~]$
When I search the forum or google, I end up with hostsfile or samba howtos. Those settings all show the right name : fedora.linux Why does the router show ralf-FK7 etc..? and where can I change it?
However, every time snmptrapd gets a snmp notification, it aborts. In debug mode, it reports a buffer overflow detected. I've tried another core 13 and a core 12, with net-snmp 5.5. On these three systems, snmptrapd behaves the same. Here is my snmptrapd.conf,
disableAuthorization yes traphandle default touch /root/a.txt I triggered snmptrapd with, snmptrap -Ci -v 2c -c public localhost "" "1.3.6.1.4.1.8837.4.1.2.1.2.1.6.4" 1.3.6.1.4.1.8837.4.1.2.1.2.1.6.4 int 500 Same result I got with my firewall snmp traps. Some other different scripts replaced in traphandle default, got the same. A small portion of debug info listed,
I'm using Core13 for zabbix, and trying to make snmptrapd works on it.

I have a favor to ask, I've been having a really hard time trying to understand how snmp traps work, what can they do for you, and why they are useful. I've done some research and I've even set up snmp clients on linux systems, not necessarily the traps. I know they communicate on port 161 and 162 and I also know that you set them up to connect to a community string. Still I cant grasp the concept. If you don't mind can any one break it down for me, in very basic terms.
I'm trying to sniff snmp traps being sent to a NMS. I'm setting -s to 0 but when I start sniffing, some of the packets, instead of being decoded, show me messages like this:
Code: [len1468<asnlen1663] What is that supposed to mean?
I have got a running mail server on CentOS5.4 Final using Zimbra free edition. . Assume that domain is organization.com.local And it is running fine with users created and bugzilla running on the same machine can send mails using this server. But it can obviously send messages to the internal users. There is this option to configure it to use external mail server to send mails outside the network but my external smtp server needs an authentication. Is it possible to configure it this way to use my external server to send mails from internal domain to say gmail?
I have an issue when sending snmp traps. I have an embedded system connected to a SNMP manager. I am sending traps from the box to the manager continuosly. After sometime I don't see any trpas coming out. I get this error message.
Cannot open file /proc/net/tcp ... : Too many open files Cannot open file /proc/net/snmp ... : Too many open files
I have created this thread as it sis realy hard for me to send traps from my Linux workstation... I m lost with v1/v2/v3 snmp... So here is the initial configuration: (without traps)
From there i can "poll" my system. But what should i do if i want my Linux system sending traps when disks are full or system overloaded etc...I have found information on Internet but not easily understandable It is for v3:
rwuser admin createUser admin MD5 mypasword # # From there i would have to comment the lines regarding the communities #
[code]....
10.5.32.202 is my management host ... is this config ok ? But it seems that trap2sink is for v2 ? How does it work ?
I'm curious as to what defines the SNMP trap info sent by switches? I would like to get updates on 802.1x authentication and state of switches (all manufacturers if possible). Is the data sent via traps determined by the manufacturer or is it possible to modify/select it from the switch MIB?
Is it possible to configure the RHEL 5.5 syslog to accept SNMP traps? That is I want to use a central logging server to pick up other systems syslogs, and SNMP messages from systems that cannot use remote syslog functions.
I have tftp-server running on Centos 5. Clients which are on the same subnet as the server are able to get and put without problems. I have a client that is across the internet that is having trouble getting files from my tftp server. A tcpdump reveals that the client is requesting the same file over and over again. In /var/log/messages, I am see the following error repeated over and over until the client finally gives up.
localhost in.tftpd[12727]: tftpd: read: No route to host
I have users [URL] unable to send email to [URL]. [URL] user also unable to send email to [URL]. But both email addresses are fine as they can receive email from others or from [URL] and [URL]. I able to telnet mail server 110 and 25, no problem. Version: ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.10
Mail Log:

I recently had the need to relay SMTP mail through our organizations hosted MS Exchange server. I had to do a little troubleshooting, so I wrote a concise summary of the procedure I followed.
I have succesfully installed Postfix mail server in my linux machine(using RHEL 5) but unable to communicate through mails from my linux machine to my windows machine(Windows2003 server). What are the possible configuration steps that i need to configure on my windows machine
I come back to everybody cause I don't find an explicit how to do this!In our internal network, I've created an email server with Postfix and Dovecot. (Just for internal domain, no needed to go outside)
But I've some server which use linux too. All are on CentOS 5.5.I would like to configure these servers to use my internal mail server for send email, and not configure sendmail or postfix on each server.
What I've to do exactly on each servers to use it? I search on the web but I don't find something very explicit
I want to access files on my ubuntu server wireless. Is there a way I can do that? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm kind of new at this whole server thing.
