i am trying to set up a mail server that will support users in a LAN in my school. I am using postfix on a Mandrakelinux distro.
I can send mail when I am root to the other user on my (same) machine both when in command line (mail command) and on Graphical mail client (Kmail ) but the user (sam) cannot send mail to the root account on either interfaces.
I followed the postfix configuration settings on John_Wiley_-_Redhat_Linux_Networking_and_System_Administration_3rd_Edition.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a server with a domain running and im trying to resolve the mail server but i can't see where to start. I use OpenSuse 11.2. Basically, for starting, i want postfix to send incoming emails to a php script or perl. for outgoing emails i guess that i could use php mail function and i will see what else to have. I configured the dns. I do a dig.mydomain.tld MX and i get the following:
mydomain.tld3600INMX0 mail.mydomain.tld
mail.mydomain.tld 3600INAmyNumericalIp
So now my system is receiving MX content but i dont know what to do.

I've followed this guide - [URL] I followed the steps above, and tested the mail server via telnet, and all seemed to be ok. I tried sending an email via Squirrelmail, from cs@thinclientwarehouse.co.uk TO my working email simon@c1systems.co.uk, but the server returned with the following message:

There is an requirement, intranet people they may not have internet access but they want to send mail to external domain(internet),but in that intranet network one machine can have internet access. Is there any solution for this requirement.

I using my laptop to do all the stuff, the laptop default OS is windows 7, i install VM player on it and run CentOS inside the VM Player.I want to do testing on Windows 7 side by installing Thunderbird email client program, i want to connect to mail server with SMTP, IMAP/POP3 using the email service. I have problem while setting up user account on Thunderbird, Thunderbird seems like cannot detect my CentOS mail server. How ?

I'm trying to get my server back up to snuff. I'm using Debian Squeeze right now and I'm up and atom with apache, mysql, php, pureftpd, ssh, and I have squirrelmail installed.

I have set up ubuntu server V9 with squid, dansguardian and clam. I have fetchmail wroking to bring in mail from our externally hosted website and delivering it to users mailboxes in exchange server. That was easy following guides on the internet. However my brain is failing me now. How do I reverse the process and send mail to the outside world. I need to be able to do this without authentication. At the moment i am using a windows environment with exchangepop3 which uses smarthost to connect to the ISP smtp server. Please help or point to a simple guide. If i cannot solve this soon i will have to revert to microsoft solution for the proxy server.
View 7 Replies View Relatedso i set out to change the default smtp port the server uses because my ISP blocks port 25 and i need the email to work in outlook. this morning i could receive email, but not send it. so i did some research and thought that i needed to edit the master.cf file in /etc/postfix/ by commenting out this line: smtp inet n - n - - smtpd -oand replace it with587 inet n - n - - smtpd (587 being the port i want to use)somewhere along the lines postfix server stopped running and now i cannot get it to start.if i try using SSH it crashes immediately and if i restart it in simple control panel nothing happens
