I'm running VMWare Server 2.0 on WindowsXP as host.I have guest O/S Linux Fedora 8. i cannot access USB drives on my VM. USB drive shows up on the VMware console window as part of my devices, like CD/RW drive, etc. But for the usb drive, it is GREYED OUT./proc/partitions never shows a USB device upon connection of the drive. I have tried googling this to death and found no solution that works.

I've installed FC 15 on a USB stick (it is not a live usb, it is a regular installation on a usb stick), and I am looking for a way to automatically detect and mount swap partitions on a host system where usb stick is plugged in. I am using many FC boxes and almost all of them have a swap partition on the hard drive and I would like to use them even if I boot my system from a usb stick.

I have servers installed with RHEL 4 2.6.9-89.0.9 ELsmp. I tried using uuid and label in /etc/fstab to automount usb drives to mountpoints that I specify after reboot. Unfortunately, it just does not work in all my RHEL4 servers. After every reboot, /etc/fstab will be automatically modified and all configurations related to my USB drives will be changed. Irregardless of whether i use UUID or LABEL in my /etc/fstab.However, it works on RHEL5. But, upgrading is not an option in my environment. I have been googling around looking for alternatives but everything seems to point back to using UUID or LABEL in /etc/fstab. Anyone has tried something that works? Please help me, thank you.

I am thinking about using aida to nuke my drive and then I'll re-partition it with gparted. I don't want to lose my 15 GB installation of Fedora Core 10 in the process and have an external 80 GB drive. How could I back up Fedora to this drive with the intention of copying it back to my internal drive?

Its annoying to unmount my flash drive twice.. its not a major problem actually but its kinda annoying , its whenever i plug-in my flash drive.. everything works well except when i need to un-mount it.. I usually unmount it twice using right-click of the mouse, then it mounts itself back, so i have to unmount it again.. Is there any way to control this? How do i setup the auto-mount option for USB flash drives?

I'm trying to install Fedora 3 Core on an old hard drive I had lying around. The problem I'm having is that when I go to manually repartition the hard drive with Disk Druid I get this error: Could not allocate requested partitions: Partitioninf Failed: Could not allocate partitions as primary partitions. I can't view the contents of the hard drive to delete stuff.

I recently setup an email server on Fedora Core (14). Sendmail is running and I am trying to authenticate from a client pc using imaps. I installed Cyrus-imap and it is running and listening on 993. When I try to login, it doesn't accept authentication even though I verified the user's password is correct. (tested with ssh)Is there something I have to do with Cyrus or on the server to allow connections to email? I have not used Cyrus before. I am attempting to access my mail folders via Sendmail and did not make mailboxes in Cyrus. I did allow imaps through the firewall.

We're running a sendmail server on a fedora core 9 which we've configured recently. The problem is, the server is working fine but there are some e-mails that enter our server but doesn't get forwarded to the user.

Here it says "stat=Sent" but nothing from the above mail address has been received on the client's inbox. We've experienced this with Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express and Thunderbird alike so far with Two(2) of our user accounts.

I have created a virtual machine of a system running Fedora Core 4 and I need to upgrade it to Fedora Core 10. Based on what I have read, it iis possible so I started theupgrade process. I get an error message saying that /dev/hda6 (my root paritition does not exist) even though it does.
Does the installer need to read a label from /etc/fstab? I executed tune2fs -L / /dev/hda6 amd ,and added LABEL=/ for the corresponding entry for fstab. but the FEDORA CORE 10 is still giving the same problems for the installation process. Should I upgrade to an intermediate verson like Fedora Core 7 first?

I have this ISP grade Nameserver running on BIND 9.5 on Fedora Core 9 64 Bit.
Its been pretty working well for sometime until a last week when we noticed it stopped resolving for our clients using on our service.
It gives correct authouritative answers for our own ISP domain with the A, PTR and MX intact but does not return resolving queries back to clients.
Below are my files
This is the message from /var/log/messages
The 41.223.x.x and 41.215.x.x ip address are from our ISP subnet and so are our own clients being denied.
The box is also hosting our traffic graph server which is on a LAMP but listens on another IP/ethernet card.
So far the load on the server is minimal as is a Dell R200 rack server.

I am tasked with setting up 3 out of the 6 servers and dividing up 500GB of space in the most efficient manner amongst the 3 servers. The space is in a pool which can be assigned to virtual drives. Each virtual drive can be assigned as disk0 or disk1 and so on to one or more servers. They'll be running CentOS.
On the second try I came up with this scheme:
shared sda1 -- /boot (ext3)
shared sda2 -- /home (ext3)

I am in school for my CIS degree and the book I am using this session covers Windows XP and Fedora Core 4. I am having trouble finding & downloading Fedora Core 4. My question is: Is there a big enough difference between Fedora Core 4 and Fedora Core 14 that I would not be able to use 14 instead of 4?

When i first installed ubuntu about 2 weeks i left about 30gb left for windows vista. I have not used vista at all so i decided to delete it and use the whole hard drive for ubuntu. I got the liveCD out and went into the partition editor on that (i had ubuntu, swap, vista in that order) and deleted the swap space and vista and increased the size of the Ubuntu partition to so there was only 4gb left for swap. I then booted up again from the hard drive and i get this message "one or mounts cannot be mounted" or something to that effect and it talks about the swap partition and offers to boot in recovery mode which does work.Once in recovery mode i go in and try and make swap partition with Disk Utility and i do that and it works. I go to restart Ubuntu to test it out and the same problem happens again, cannot mount swap ect. so i go back into Disk Utility and it now says 4gb Unrecognized instead of swap

I got NFS installed all fine and dandy.
I want to make it now so that my drive will mount either at startup or a Keyboard shortcut.
Problem I run into is I need to logged in as root or have sudo access.
I got a feeling that it won't be that hard, maybe.
Pretty much I wanna run
sudo mount 192.168.1.102:/media/Xternal
Without putting in a password.
