CentOS 5 :: Minimal 5.5 X86_64 Install To Run OpenVZ

Jan 27, 2011

Looking at the various OS image download options, I see that I need to download/burn 8 ISO images for CentOS5.5 x86_64. Trying to see if it is at-all possible to avoid downloading/burning all 8 CD's, and make-do with the 1st one alone. My target platform is a commodity desktop running AMD AthlonII X2 250, with dual-channel 4GB DDR3 @1333MHz, and 500GB 7200rpm SATA (no RAID, SW or HW).

I read in another forum post that for minimal install without X, the 1st CD should suffice. Is this correct ? While I do not expect this forum to answer OpenVZ questions, but if someone happens to have experience in installing OpenVZ on such a system, how much extra I might have to download online, to get the system functional.

The guestOS in the OpenVZ partitions would be a mix of CentOS5.5 64-bit and 32-bit, and few running Ubuntu 10.04.1 32-bit. I am told that this is possible. Effectively it means I'd need the (pseudo?) 32-bit library support.

Server :: Run An Openvpn Server On A Openvz VPS - Packets Doesn't Reach The Client

Oct 23, 2010

I'm trying hard to run an openvpn server on a openvz VPS, the problem is packets sent from openvpn server process, doesnt reach the client, so connection is never stablished (I run tcpdump on server and wireshark on client to carefully investigate whats wrong), the first guess is that a kind of firewall is blocking traffic (I tried connecting to server through different ISP's but it's possible the national network provider applied some filtering but it cant be on IP,src port or dst port as I'd tried different configuration.

what about deep packet inspection technics, is it possible to block my traffic?) but at exactly the same time I can transmit UDP packets using netcat from server to the guest. there is no firewall enabled in between, I had tried, tcp and udp, tried both open vpn and openvpnAS and tried any thing one can imagine! the VPN is configured as a routed (TUN) type on debian

Ubuntu Servers :: /etc/network/interfaces Doesn't Set IP Address With OpenVZ?

Jun 4, 2010

I'm building up a server based on 8.04 LTS. It's using OpenVZ, and as part of that it creates a virtual network interface venet0. I add a stanza to /etc/network/interfaces that looks like this:

Code:
allow-hotplug venet0
iface venet0 inet static
address 10.53.35.1
netmask 255.255.255.0

[Code].....

Looking further, I note that /etc/init.d/networking is not symlinked into anything other than the rcS.d directory. It's been a while since I've been tinkering at this level, but I understand that there should be a symlink from rc2.d/Sxxnetworking into ../etc/init.d/networking. So I wonder where eth0 is getting configured.

CentOS 5 :: Install An Icecast Server On Centos 5 VPS Hosted Through Phurix?

Jul 1, 2010

I've been trying for the past week to install an icecast server on my centos 5 VPS hosted through phurix.

I've tried compiling it, installing it from RPM. but im getting nowhere. Has anybody had any luck installing it, who wouldn't mind explaining how they went about it?

I've searched google for hours on end and all I can come up with is generic cent os 4 guides that just wont work. Im not the best when in comes to linux. I do a great job of copying and pasting to a shell prompt and can use ftp etc.

if this is any use.. heres the last output from my last attempt and compiling it...

[root@vps613 icecast-2.3.2]# ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/icecast
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking for a thread-safe mkdir -p... /bin/mkdir -p
checking for gawk... gawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... no

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Install Centos 5.5 X86_64 On Vmware Server 2.0.2?

Nov 6, 2010

I have an i5 Thinkpad running Windows 7 64-bit. VT is enabled in the BIOS. I have installed vmware server v 2.0.2 but am unable to install Centos 5.5 x86_64 as a guest OS. The steps that I followed are as follows:1. Created a new VM, specifying RHEL 5 64-bit as the intended guest OS (per vmware documentation - Centos is not available as a selection2. Downloaded all 8 iso files for Centos v5.5 64-bit3. Modified the CD/DVD drive to 'connect at power' and use an iso with the path pointing to the x86_64 iso 1 of 8When I power up the VM, the console window displays 'ISOLINUX 3.11 2005-09-02 Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Peter Anvin' and nothing else. The installation splash screen never appears. As a test, I downloaded the first of 7 iso files for the 32-bit version of Centos 5.5 and pointed the CD/DVD drive to that iso. In that case, the installation starts as expected. I would really like to get the 64-bit version installed and running.

Server :: Custom CentOS 5 Install With Ks.cfg File And CentOS All In One

Jan 14, 2010

What i want to be able to do is create a custom kickstart for my centOS 5 server. I want to create a bootable cd that I can pop in my server and basically walk away for 45 minutes and I come back and its fully installed. All the directions I have read so far tell me that I have to create a seperate ks.cfg and then I need my original centos cd to get it booted. Then the cd will ask for where the ks.cfg file is and I have to type the location. I just want to pop the CD in and type in linux_clean or something and have it perform a custom install based on the information and specification in my ks.cfg. How can I go about doing this?

See http://www.realvnc.com for information on VNC.

yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment" which did work out for me. Before I have ran the install, the entire VPS got updated by the yum update command. How do I resolve this error so that the VNC will work as I would like to install a few applications on there that need to be controlled through a mouspointer.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: IBM 345 Server Will Not Install 5

Apr 9, 2009

I recently purchased an IBM 345 server and tried to install CentOs 5 from a set of CDs that I made. I know the install CDs are fine because I used them to install on another server I own. The install program boots from CD 1, When I put CD 2 in, it asks if I would like to verify the install CD and when I hit skip the install program switches to a blue screen with the key board shortcuts on the bottom and nothing else. It hangs here. If I hit CTRL ALT DEL it will go through the reboot process. My server has 6 36 gig drives in it connected to an IBM server raid 5i. I have drives 0 and 1 set as a volume (raid 1), and the other 4 drives set as a volume (Raid 5). While the machine hangs the light on drive 4 comes on and stays lit.I was successful in installing Windows Server 2003 on the machine, so I am sure the hardware is ok.
