Server :: Dell Server Update Utility 6.2.0 Over NFS Share?

May 24, 2010

I'm trying to set up a Dell Server Update Utility DVD on a NFS share. I'm doing it because we have a server room far from our location and I need some mechanism to update server firmware when needed. Only some of the servers have a DVD drive, most of them have just CD-ROM.I'm trying to set it up on test desktops which have Ubuntu 9.10 32bit and 10.04 32bit installed. The problem is when I try to run this from mounted NFS share:

Code:
# /bin/bash ./suu
i get:

CentOS 5 :: Unable To Connect To Swat

Aug 24, 2009

I just installed swat, but I'm unable to connect. I read the "man swat" file and it says that I have to modify the /etc/inet.d/swat file, which in my install does not exist; however, I found the /etc/xinetd.d/swat file, and I edited setting disable=no, and also setting only_host=to my ip address. After that I restarted the server "service xinetd restart" because "service inetd restart" doesn't work, so I checked if the port was listening with netstat -l | grep 901. Again no service is listening on that port..

Fedora Installation :: Configuration Of Swat And Samba ?

Jan 8, 2010

The configuration of swat and samba. I have tried the vi edit approach but there is no save option so after I edit it and close it, it just says the terminal is in the middle of a process and closing will kill it or something to that effect. Of course then it doesn't save the changes. That reminds me that I do su to root before I do this. I have also tried the pam edit in order to allow myself to log on to root from the gui but that doesn't work either. Am I missing something? I can't imagine how you are supposed to configure anything if it won't let you even in root. Would the fact that my user and root passwords are the same effect this in anyway? I'm desperate as this is for a school project and obviously I'm new to linux.

Software :: Tweak Wine To Play Swat 4?

EDIT: forgot to mention that wine does recognize that I have installed the program to its virtual c drive.

Server :: Mbox Utility To Move Messages?

Oct 4, 2010

I have an email server running postfix and popa3d under Debian. I have mailboxes in mbox (single file) format per user in /var/mail/username. I had my own mailbox get too many messages so popa3d refused to process per a compiled in security / anti-DOS limit, so I moved to /var/mail/username_bak. What is the best way to start moving the messages from /var/mail/username_bak to /var/mail/username? I do not see any utilities included with postfix or popa3d that do this, but I am hoping there are generic mbox utilities to easily do this.

Ubuntu Servers :: Release Upgrade Utility On A Live Server?

Sep 8, 2010

Does anyone have any experiences to share regarding this? Our server is still running Hardy and, of course, the time is rapidly approaching where I need to upgrade to the latest LTS. Now, I'm sure a complete re-installation would obviously be preferred, but I noticed that there's a release upgrade feature for Ubuntu server. Is this reliable enough to use on our production server without wrecking everything? I really don't want to have to go through the process of configuring software RAID and all our other services again.

Obviously I'll take normal precautions such as making tons of backups and starting the process on a weekend so if the proverbial poo hits the fan I can work over the weekend and have everything up and rolling by monday. This server is not exposed to the outside world as a webserver or anything like that so it can afford to be down over the weekend (although not preferable since we have financial cron jobs and such running in the wee hours of the morning).

Software :: Ubuntu 9.04 Server - Finding Utility To Backup Entire HDD?

Dec 26, 2009

I'm running ubuntu 9.04 64-bit server and am looking to backup my entire OS drive. I've got a 200GB main drive, and a 1TB storage drive mounted at /storage. I'm already good as far as setting up backups of my data - but redoing all of my settings and software would be a nightmare in the event of a HD failure.

So what I'm looking for is a command line utility to do an image of the main 200gb drive to an external usb drive. The software needs to function similar to the Windows Vista/7 System Image utility or DriveImage XML and be able to make the images without shutting down. The best I've found so far was [URL], but it uses a GUI, and doesn't support large files.

Ubuntu :: Install The New Nvidia-xconfig-1.0 Utility?

Apr 2, 2010

Nvidia now provides a utility to easy configure the X server configuration file (besides the manual configuration). It is provided as a tar.gz file and it can be downloaded from the official Nvidia driver download website.

I used the standard procedure to install such files:

unpack the archive
change directory as root into the unpacked archive
./configure
make
make install

but it did not work.

I am using Linux Ubuntu. My video card is GeForce 4 MX and the driver is 96.43.13.
The archive does not provide any install instructions.

Debian Configuration :: Install A Multi-core System And Configure It To Run Several VMs, One Each For A Firewall, A Caching Proxy Server, A Mail Server, A Web Server?

Jan 25, 2011

I will be relocating to a permanent residence sometime in the next year or two. I've recently begun thinking about the best way to implement a home-based network. It occurred to me that the most elegant solution might be the use of VM technology to eliminate as much hardware and wiring as possible. My thinking is this: Install a multi-core system and configure it to run several VMs, one each for a firewall, a caching proxy server, a mail server, a web server. Additionally, I would like to run 2-4 VMs as remote (RDP)workstations, using diskless workstations to boot the VMs over powerline ethernet. The latest powerline technology (available later this year) will allow multiple devices on a residential circuit operating at near gigabit speed, just like legacy wired networks.

In theory, the above would allow me to consolidate everything but the disklessworkstations on a single server and eliminate all wired (and wireless) connections except the broadband connection to the Internet and the cabling to the nearest power outlets. It appears technically possible, but I'm not sure about the various virtual connections among VMs. In theory, each VM should be able to communicate with the other as if it was on the same network via the server data bus, but what about setting up firewall zones? Any internal I/O bandwidth bottlenecks? Any other potential "gotchas", caveats, issues? (Other than the obvious requirement of having enough CPU and RAM).Any thoughts or observations welcome, especially if they are from real world experience in a VM environment. BTW--in case you're wondering why I'm posting here, it's because I run Debian on all my workstations/servers (running VirtualBox as a VM for Windows XP on one workstation).

Debian :: Add Shut Down Utility Of Ubuntu?

Ubuntu's current utility works by clicking on the top right corner which shows a list without opening a new mini-window or anything allowing me to select however it is that I want to change the state of my computer if it wasn't obvious as to what I am referring to.
