View 1 RepliesI have a set of iptables I have downloaded and modified for my use. I had it working for 1 lan and wan access. I now would like to have: wan access, 1 lan, and 1 wlan. I need to administer the entire network from my wireless laptop on the wlan network so I need to be able to access the lan from the wlan network, and have the wlan access the lan network. Here are my rules:
#!/bin/sh
# IPTABLES FIREWALL script for the Linux 2.6 kernel.
# This script is a derivitive of the script presented in
# the IP Masquerade HOWTO page at: [URL]
# It was simplified to coincide with the configuration of the sample system presented in the Guides section of [URL]
# This script is presented as an example for testing only and should not be used on a production firewall .....
echo -e " Firewall server rule loading complete "
I have KDE 4.4 and Firefox 3.6. Whenever I click a link from a plasmoid widget, it tries to open Konqueror and another instance of Firefox. The page actually loads in the opened Firefox window, but the task bar shows an instance of Konqueror and another instance of Firefox, that keeps loading for a while then close. See image below:
I currently have setup the browser default application as "firefox". If I set this option to use the default application, it opens in Konqueror and I don't see additional windows in the task bar. If I change the option to "firefox %u", then it exhibit the same issue, but the process is much faster, so the loading windows don't stay for long in the task bar. Additionally, it opens the link on a new Firefox window and opens the page twice. Although Konqueror is not loaded, the bouncing icon next to the mouse pointer shows up and stay for a while.
I am running Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud on two PCs, one as Controller, one as a node. I have downloaded two Ubuntu virtual machine images from the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud Store and can successfully start instances of them with: euca-run-instances -k mykey emi-XXXXXXXX -t c1.medium
If I run this command I can see the instance is running: watch -n5 euca-describe-instances
I can ping the IP address of the VM instance from my Controller but I can't make an SSH connection to it. I'm following the instructions @ [URL] so I have tried connecting with: ssh -i ~/.euca/mykey.priv ubuntu@192.168.1.250
The result is: Permission denied (publickey).
If I try adding -v to the ssh command I get:
OpenSSH_5.1p1 Debian-6ubuntu2, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007
debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
debug1: Applying options for *

I have to deploy a java/j2ee based web app with mysql. 1)need to install tomcat 2)java runtime 6 3) apache web server
What would be the best image to use for my requirement and I initially planning to launch with the micro instance if my web app demands I may further move to small and larger instances. So it should be eligible for free usuage tier.
I am would like to learn how to keep my system clean of unneeded and unwanted file clutter as I am trying to get the most out of my older home built pc. I am running fatdog64 puppy linux off of a usb stick right now, but I would like to have a small standards based setup on my hard drive to use as a base to build a custom kernel for my pc. I sure miss my old GEM desktop
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am operating Debian 5.0 kernel 2.26. In trying to clean up (I believe I was using a root terminal), I erased the directory /home/root. Since I have done that, I can not get to a root terminal, can not use synapse and a host of other administrative processed.
Now, when I boot the system, I can log in as a user (my version of Debian does not allow me to login as the administrator). Then, logged in as the user, I previously could select for example 'synapse', I would be given a screen to enter the Administrator password and then get synapse. Now, I am given the screen to enter the Administrator password, but once I enter it, I do not get synapse. I do get an error message
'can not find /home/root/.synapse' And of course, I erased the /home/root directory. Now I might just mkdir /home/root - except to do that I need a root terminal and I can not get that either - probably for the same reason.
I have tried using the boot disk and going to the rescue mode - except for some reason I can not mount a root directory. I believe it is because I am using LVM2 and my root directory must be in an LVM volume, but I can not figure out how to get to that using the rescue mode.
Hi. I need to create second mysql instance on the same server but another port. What is the right way to do that?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have set up UEC on a single machine 64 bit blade. I have followed the steps as per the documentation.I am using Managed NOVlan mode. I have installed the Karmic kola image. When I try to run the instance, I get an error "no resources available. Try --addressing private". When I try addressing private, an ip address 172.19.1.2 is assigned and the instance was running.
a) When trying to ping the ip, error displayed that the host is unreachableb) I am also unable to connect to ubuntu@172.19.1.2 using ssh. Error message is displayed that " No route to host".I have searched the forums but couldnt find any solutionPS: I suppose everyone is very busy. I see very limited responses to posts. Sharing your experience and expertise will be helpful for all and will reiterate the meaning of ubuntu
I have setrup Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud on a single machine.
1) I am able to run the instances from store (karmic) On running the instance two ips are assigned (public and private) as 10.B.C.X and 172.19.1.2
2) I am able to connect to the instance (10.B.C.X) through ssh (using key)
3) However I am unable to access the instance outside the UEC (using public ip). When I try pinging, I get an error Request timed out or sometimes Destination host unreachable.
4) I have provided the following access using euca-authorize
Details below:
1) Hardware : Blade (64 bit)
2) Version : Ubuntu 9.10; Eucalyptus the one using apt-get install eucalyptus
3) Topology : Single physical system
4) Mode : Managed no-vlan

I had installed UEC 10.04. It is a 2 server configuration with CC, CLC, SC and Walrus on one server and NC on another server. I could run instance of images, But when i try to ssh to the instance, it doesn't work.
It shows ssh: connect to host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx port 22: No route to host. This to me seems there is a problem with my network connection. Pl find below the ifconfig output of the two servers:

I've got my first EC2/cloud instance of Ubuntu up and running. This is my first time really dealing with the server edition. I've loaded Apache, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, and Webmin. I've got a public IP on the instance and it is working. I've opened, for now, ports 80, 8080, 443, and 10000 to 0.0.0.0/0.
I cannot get into Tomcat Manager or Webmin at all through a browser. For Tomcat, I've restarted, stop/started, and verified that Tomcat is running. I installed Webmin all through apt-get commands so any dependencies should have been installed (first time doing it this way), but cannot get to the login screen. But if I just go to the IP, Apache goes to the "It Works." splash page. Did I miss some set up? Is there an internal firewall in Ubuntu Server edition that needs to be set?
I have installed vsftpd. When I run the command sudo service vsftpd restart, I get the following response: restart: Unknown instance. But if I run the command sudo service vsftpd start, I get the following response: vsftpd start/running, process 3804. To understand what is happening, I run the command ps aux | grep vsftpd, I get root 3805 0.0 0.0 27120 620 ? Ss 14:00 0:00 usr/sbin/vsftpd.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI might just be crazy or particularly dumb today but what I'm trying to do is have sed replace the first and second instance of a character on a line but not after that.
Basically it is a csv file with a date formatted as dd/mm/yyyy and I need to completely remove the slashes. No problem using:
Code:
sed 's////g' < file > outputfile
The only problem is that one of the columns after this may also contain these slashes and shouldn't be removed.
I must have read every single sed page on the net today to find a way to do it to no avail! Is it as simple as :
Code:
sed 's////1' < file > outputfile
And then run the same on the output file again? these two slashes will always be the first and second slashes in the file.
I am using RHEL 9 I want to install swat utility on this, where i can download the RPMs of?
1. samba-comman
2. samba-utils
3. swat
I just installed swat, but I'm unable to connect. I read the "man swat" file and it says that I have to modify the /etc/inet.d/swat file, which in my install does not exist; however, I found the /etc/xinetd.d/swat file, and I edited setting disable=no, and also setting only_host=to my ip address. After that I restarted the server "service xinetd restart" because "service inetd restart" doesn't work, so I checked if the port was listening with netstat -l | grep 901. Again no service is listening on that port..

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo i'm really loving the whole gnome-do/docky thing. My question is that on other docks, you can hold down a modifier key to launch a new instance rather then switching to an already opened instance of an app. So lets say I have chrome on the win7 dock
first click launches chrome
other clicks will focus the opened window
shift click will open a new instance of chrome
ctrl-shift-click will launch a new instance as admin
Is there anything similar in docky?
What is dumping an instance in linux?

I'm going to administer wordpress from a different host on the same LAN as the server (the server doesn't have X and desktop software on it). When you build a site, with wordpress, from a separate admin host what exactly is happening?. Do browser requests from the admin host go to the web server, then out to the Internet, then back to the web server, then the results get displayed back to the browser on the admin host?. Or does it work differently?. Will such a set up work automatically after the installation and basic configuration of LAMP and wordpress on the web server?.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe configuration of swat and samba. I have tried the vi edit approach but there is no save option so after I edit it and close it, it just says the terminal is in the middle of a process and closing will kill it or something to that effect. Of course then it doesn't save the changes. That reminds me that I do su to root before I do this. I have also tried the pam edit in order to allow myself to log on to root from the gui but that doesn't work either. Am I missing something? I can't imagine how you are supposed to configure anything if it won't let you even in root. Would the fact that my user and root passwords are the same effect this in anyway? I'm desperate as this is for a school project and obviously I'm new to linux.

EDIT: forgot to mention that wine does recognize that I have installed the program to its virtual c drive.
