I know the subject of this sounds pretty stupid, but I was trying to follow some instructions to upgrade from CentOS 4.8 to CentOS 5.5 and somewhere along the line I messed up the rpm utility and now I get the following:
RPM: error while loading shared libraries: librpm-4.4.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I need to install the rpm-libs package but my rpm utility doesn't work so I don't know what to do?
Any useful IDE and GUI pkg that I can use under Linux to develop a software utility in C#? It would be good if the license for the GUI pkg allowed my code to be sold and not require it to be given away for free.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI found it is impossible to format partition during Ubuntu 10.04 installation.
My storage configuration is as following. 1TB (500GB X 2) AHCI RAID 0 (it is said fake raid) and covers below 4 partitions.
/dev/mapper/pdc_dgbbagea1 9621688 5872752 3260168 65% /
/dev/mapper/pdc_dgbbagea4 945587172 95673304 802259056 11% /home
/dev/mapper/pdc_dgbbagea3 9698380 1363364 7846240 15% /opt
Partition 2 is swap partition and root partition is ext3 original.
Since there is no enough space for upgrading, I try to format root partition and install a complete pure new OS. After I booting up system from Live or Alternative disk, I try to switch root partition from file system ext3 to ext4 and format it. However, Formating process always get failed after couple trying. Even I quit installation and use tools "Disk Utility" to check and adjust partition information. It reports device is busy.
I would update the bios of my asus with this utility [URL]. Do you think I can use that under wine?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI seem to recall that there is a utility that sets up and manages completely different Wine installations for different programs. People use it primarily for games, so that the necessary tweaks and config options that work well for one game do not interfere with another.
I can't remember the name of it, though, and no amount of searching has reminded me.
I had a tri boot of Win 7 /XP and Mint...I was using EasyBCD 2.0 as a boot manager...I booted Mint by configuring the NeoGrub option in Easy BCD..I wanted to uninstall Win 7 and so what I did was the following
1. Edited BCD bootloader settings ...Marked XP as my default and deleted Win 7 entry...
2. Logged out and wiped my Win 7 partition
With my fingers crossed , i rebooted but Easy BCD booted flawlessly with 2 choices XP and Mint(GRUB)...As Easy BCD is not meant for XP, I thought of restoring original NTLDR of XP so that things would be in place and thinking that this cud avoid problems of detection by other Linux OS I deleted manually the Easy BCD menu.lst file and NeoGrub.mbr in my root...That was it , after I rebooted, I got boot screen of EasyBCD but whichever option I select,I got an error message that address not Valid-NTLDR not found or something like that I booted my XP live CD and like many times before ran
1.Fixmbr
2.Fixboot
3.bootcfg /rebuild
After that , now when I reboot , I am getting "Invalid Partition Table" On booting from a linux CD , I can see the files are in place..I have to get boot sector and partition table fixed...
Do I have a printer installation utility I can access through the shell? I tried installing/configuring my parallel port HP DeskJet 712C through CUPS using xfce but they didn't list my printer.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe system is a Dell 530n. It came preinstalled with Ubuntu 8.04. I didn't care for the way Dell handled its repositories (they don't keep them current) so I installed Ubuntu 10.04.
Now when I select "F12 Boot Options" while the BIOS is bringing things to life, I still get the various boot options, however, when I select "Utility Partition" all I get is "Not found. No boot device available."
For those not familiar, the Dell Utility Partition is a hidden partition that has various utilities to help troubleshoot hardware problems.
What did Ubuntu 10.04 do and how do I fix this?
I am a new user of Fedora 11. I am a Ubuntu user and could not get my GeForce 9100 on board graphics to work on my new computer with out crashing my computer so I decided I would try fedora. I downloaded the driver from NVidia and I am attempting to install it (Fedora didn't automatically find the driver). I get the following message:
"Error Unable to find the system utility 'ld'; Please make sure you have the 'binutils' installed. If you do have the bin utils installed, then please check that 'ld' is in your PATH."
I am running the driver from $Download as root. I don't know what ld or bin utils is or the check if I have it or if it is in my PATH.
I have a problem when installing this package through synaptic package manager. this is :

Just downloaded 10.4 Lucid. Everything works out of the box except when I click on "Disk Utility", it loads but nothing is seen. In other words, no drive information.

In recent versions of Ubuntu, it is possible to click on the top right corner to choose to shut, down, log out, etc as opposed to having buttons that need to be clicked on followed by other buttons. Ubuntu's current utility works by clicking on the top right corner which shows a list without opening a new mini-window or anything allowing me to select however it is that I want to change the state of my computer if it wasn't obvious as to what I am referring to.

One to be able to put all my video files on that partition and another one for my home folder. What is the best way and utility to use? Is gparted the way to go on the live CD (or usb stick in my case) and then do the partitions that way?
Total size of HD is 320gb. how much room is needed for the OS , 4gb?? How much for the home folder, 16gb? I know the biggest partition is going to be the last one for my video files which I think should be 300 gb. Or should I just do two partition and leave my home folder and videos in the same partitions? [URL]
I'm working on setting up a new NAS. I installed Karmic desktop on a 160 GB HD using the default settings.
Now I've added three 1TB drives and want to make them a RAID-5 array with LVM on that, and 1 ext4 partition. I want to use LVM so I can add drives and expand the array later.
So far I've been using Disk Utility (Palimpsest Disk Utility) and it's been great! A wonderful addition to Karmic! I got the RAID-5 array setup with no problems using disk utility. So now I have a 2000 GB raid-5 array setup in Disk Utility and I need to get LVM setup.
Problem is: I don't see any sign of LVM in Disk Utility. I've been googling all night and I can't find any documentation for setting up LVM in Disk Utility, just people saying that it's supported.
I tried installing the lvm2 package, rebooting, and then looking around again. No luck.
So, what am I missing? Should there be LVM options in Disk Utility? Where is it? Is there a better/easier way to configure lvm?
point me in the direction to get a step by step guide to setting up a Raid 5 using the Disk Utility and 3 spare drives? I have the main OS files on a 80gig drive and I would like to mount the 3 drives as Raid 5.Just shooting in the dark now.. Screen shot is attached. [URL]...

This would seem like something that file recovery software would have to be able to figure out in the process of recovering deleted files, but not sure if any utility would actually display the information in that manner. Before anyone asks, I don't think I really NEED to know that information, but I'm just curious to see how the sectors are allocated as the partition fills up and files are created and deleted. Prior to resizing a partition smaller it would be interesting to see if data has to be moved from the end of the partition because it occupies sectors that will be lost due to the resizing operation.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi constantly find myself opening and closing terminals (which, in turn, i lose output on the terminal window and what not..). i use the terminal screenlet app and i really enjoy that, but sometimes find it cumbersome to have to constantly minimize the current window to go to my desktop with the built in terminal screenlet. i had an idea for a panel applet that will do the following: it will act like the drawer applet, but when you click the button, a terminal window will un-roll and pop up with the past output from previous commands/work. you then can click the button again and have it roll back into the panel to wait for the next use, etc. has anything like this been done already for terminals? also, if not for terminals, has anything like this been done for any application? i ask because if i can get the previous source code, it will be much easier to modify it for terminal usage. (im a grad student and don't have much time to devote to a completely new formulation of code haha).

As the name implies, its purpose is to fix broken partition tables, although it also has a few other specialized uses. Broken partition tables often manifest in GParted and other libparted-based tools as an empty disk, even when you know partitions exist on it; or sometimes as a disk with incorrect partitions shown. FixParts' three main goals are:
To remove stray GUID Partition Table (GPT) data from MBR disks. This problem can result from re-using a GPT disk by repartitioning it with a GPT-unaware utility, such as Linux fdisk or at least some versions of the Windows installer. To resize extended partitions that are too large or too small. This problem can be created by TestDisk under some circumstances, and perhaps by other tools, too. To change primary partitions into logical partitions, or vice-versa. Such changes might not technically be fixes of problems, but they can be, if something turned a logical partition into a primary partition, as the Windows XP installer does sometimes. This feature of the program can also be helpful in working around the problem of computer manufacturers who place four primary partitions on their disks at the factory.
The program is not intended for general-purpose partitioning; for that, use fdisk, GNU Parted, GParted, Disk Utility, or other tools. You should also be aware that FixParts may change partition numbers. This shouldn't affect a typical Ubuntu installation, but it might if you use partition device filenames rather than UUIDs in /etc/fstab or your GRUB 2 configuration.
FixParts is an offshoot of my GPT fdisk (gdisk and sgdisk) package, which is used to partition GPT disks. Because FixParts has such different uses, though, I've put it into a separate binary package. You can download them all from the GPT fdisk SourceForge download page.

View 4 Replies View RelatedHas anybody ever used Disk Utility to set up software RAID? Here I am running terminal commands (I'm a terminal junkie) and I just happen to stumble across instructions that indicate "Or you can just set it up through Disk Utility."
Sure enough in disk utility, it looks like all of the configurable options are there. It makes me wonder, though... is this kind of GUI functionality something that isn't really solid? Or does it operate predictably and effectively?
I cannot get the Disk Utility to launch, when I click the icon the cursor rotates and stops but nothing happens.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Disk Utility, still not working.
I have three HDDs and many partitions. I multi boot Linux, Win 7 and Win XP.
All OS's boot cleanly using EasyBCD boot loader.
It did not work in 10.04 or 10.10.
