I'm looking for a powerful network traffic monitor that can do all of the following (or at least a combination of tools that can do the following):
Tell me how much data was downloaded/uploaded on an interface this month and the previous month tell me how the traffic was used throughout the monthshow which internal IPs (IPs in the 192.168.1.0/24 network) used how much traffic show which ports/protocols on those IPs used all that traffic
Hhow LIVE traffic flow statistics that can tell me total speed of traffic going through an interface as well asshow which internal IPs (IPs in the 192.168.1.0/24 network) are using how much of the traffic show which ports/protocols on those IPs are using that traffic
This tool will run on a linux router through which all my internal PCs are connected to the Internet. This means the tool(s) need to work with NAT (traffic being forwarded and not necessarily destined for the interfaced being monitored).
The distribution being run doesn't have a package manager so any packages or dependencies have to be manually compiled and SCPed over file by file. For this reason, the tool/tools need to be simple (things like vnstat, not things like ntop that have their own web interface).
I know that vnstat can tell me the first bullet point so it's only there incase there's a tool out there that can do everything. If there's a tool that can only do the second or third bullet point, that's great too - I'll just keep using vnstat and look for something else to do the other task.
My rsync takes backup of everything from the differenct linux servers to my backup device which is 2 TB only .Since it takes almost full backup of source , it consumes space lot in the backupdevice. So i wanted to keep all my backup files of one month old latest files in backup device, it should remove all files more than one month data.
After I upgraded 11.04 on my netbook (Latitude 2110), I get a symbol lookup error when trying to run Spotify (Native Linux Client) and other QT based applications:
spotify: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libQtDBus.so.4: undefined symbol:_ZN14QObjectPrivate15checkWindowRoleEv
I found the following thread on the Spotify support website, with the exact same error. I cannot quite understand how to diagnose and fix the problem from the information provided. Anyone got a good tips or hint?
My .jar file needs and uses some files in the same directory it's in (everything, including the jar was unzipped into said directory). It runs perfectly when I do java -jar file.jar in the command line, but there's trouble when I double-click the file when running from the file system manager. I've tried a custom command under properties ie java -jar, but the problem is that the .jar file doesn't seem to be able to use any of the files in the same directory. When running, the jar can't find any of the files that it needs.

But I just downloaded cygwin to my xp machine. Tried my first experimental script and created it one level directly below where cygwin put me by default. The script, named show two says:
#!/bin/bash echo $1 echo $2
But bash apparently can't find it. The name of the script is showtwo, but I also tried naming it showtwo.sh; no dice.
I just recently installed Ubuntu for our server, and I had a question about using tcsh. I'm trying to run a script of commands and the first line of my script is: Quote: #! /bin/tcsh -f I chmod +x my script, but when I type the name of my script at the command line i get this message: Quote: myscript: Command not found. the only way my script will work is if I type: Quote: tcsh myscript
Only then, will myscript execute its set of commands. I would like to be able to type the name of scripts without having to type tcsh at the beginning, each time. Is there a way to do that?
Firstly i'd like to introduce myself before I ask my question, i am currently studying a "Network Operating System 2" course, and in the syllabus the professor decided to use Ubuntu Linux for us. This is a first for me and I am truly greatly interested in the OS. It seems like a solid system once you get to know the deep foundations of it. The professor has already given us an assignment, but I feel its not fair as its just a bit too much from out of what he taught us .. He did not teach us what he is asking for. He asked us to create to a text file which lists the Sales from two Salespersons, and each one will have an amount for each month .. So 12 entries for each salesperson.
Using that text file, we should write a bash script which would read the values from the above text file, and produce a "Monthly Sales" text file, which shows the total sales of each month (combined from both the salespersons). I would like to ask for some guidance, some help on how to start. It's just that he didn't teach us any commands about this matter.
I'm using vim 7.2.330 on 64 bit ubuntu 10.04, sometime in the last week every time I reopen a file it places the cursor at the top of the file. I can see in ~/.viminfo where it's saving the last position used, but it doesn't seem to be honoring it.
May I ask that does VIM support editing large files. I'm editing a 3G (good, less than 4G) text file with several millions of lines. I have deleted the first ~110,000 lines and :x (save and exit). OMG: this operation takes more than 3 days. I think it hangs already, so I terminated it. So my question is, can VIM do this???
Mine is: VIM - Vi IMproved 7.0 Included patches: 1, 3-4, 7-9, 11, 13-17, 19-26, 29-31, 34-44, 47, 50-56, 58-64, 66-73,
when i give service postgresql status command. i get the following.ostmaster (pid xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx) is running...The issue is my postmaster service is running in multiple process ids.As a result my cpu usage becomes high. How to resolve this. my postmaster service need to be run under only one process id
I migrated joomla to my new server and noticed that the script doesn't have the permission to edit it's own configuration file and write to the cache folder. All my files are owned by root, which I guess isn't a good idea.
As what user do the PHP scripts run? Or is this system specific? I don't want to chmod all files to 777 so I'd just like to change file and folder ownerships to the user that is executing that script.
I am trying to run a PHP script over and over again. I would love to be able to just write a small bash script that will just do this for me, however I am having trouble writing a for loop that works. Here is what I have now:
When I run this (./bash_import) I get the following errors:
I have also tried just doing the "php wps_product_import.php" on 20 different lines and I get an error saying it can't open the script file and only runs once.
I'm running a Minecraft server off of a dell T110 with Ubuntu 10.1 installed, as I haven't had a chance to install Natty yet. The problem is, it's running very very slowly, past the point where I could say it's the hardware's issue.
I have an intel xeon (2.4ghz quad core) in there, with 2gb of RAM. 2gb isn't much, but the computer runs slowly even when the MC server itself is off.
I'm talking super super slow, like, the cursor doesn't even show up all the time. It disappears frequently and things take a while to render/open, a site like facebook takes about 20 seconds to completely load.
This is my first ubuntu install, so I'm kind of new to it. The only problem/solution I could think is that I may have installed the 32bit version on a 64bit processor. I don't think I did, butttt that's the only thing that occurs to me
I have debian lenny, when I run an application is slow to load (example: iceweacel open and it takes, I can hold him iceweacel work normally), I tried to change from gnome to another and the same thing, went down some services (samba, squid) and nothing. I open a terminal and it takes, I want to duplicate it and do it fast. From a terminal without X (tty1) with root run mc and moves quickly, also run as root "sudo mc" and takes to boot.Any action done with sudo it takes to run.
Can not be what it takes to make starting the applications, not the PC because it is new, and from one moment to another I began to pass this
The sudoers file is fine, in the log's nothing unusual, since other PC take long to enter samba.
I have a box that is Rec Hat Linux 5.4 with Apache server 2.2.3 . I'm told there are multiple vulnerabilities in Apache httpd, that version 2.2.16 or later is better. However, I did a package update this week and 2.2.3 is where I sit. Is there a newer version that will run or a patch for 2.2.3? Upgrading Red Hat is not an option.
I have a question regarding the user that chkconfig runs as. My chkconfig script calls some other scripts to start up a tomcat instance. But the secondary scripts use %JAVA_HOME and for some reason the user it's running under doesn't have that defined. I can call the scripts directly as the root or as another user and it works properly. But I added an echo in the script and when chkconfig calls the script it has a much smaller $PATH and no $JAVA_HOME.
I need to write a batch file for windows that automatically starts the cygwin tool in windows and executes the unix scripts.Previously we had these scripts in unix server. Now we need to migrate them to Windows server. For this reason we are using cygwin tool that allows the scripts to be executed on Windows server. We had written a batch file that starts the cygwin tool, but we were not able to execute the unix scripts. How can we write a batch file such that it executes all the unix scripts in cygwin.
I have a server and i think that my server is under Ddos attack. i see that server is not having much load and only few process runs but my site opens very slow. i executed the following command on my ssh:
I installed a new squeeze serverXen Hypervisor runs the server as Dom0 anda virtual Windows XP.The server runs samba, postfix, dovecot, squid, cups and hylafax with a Frritz ISDN card (module fcpci.ko).The used memory of Dom0 rises slowly (about 5MB /h) until the system crashes. As a workaround i installed a reboot every 24 hours.htop shows normal behavior. The system is already in production, so i can't stop services to track this bug.I need some hints how to debug the running system to find out, where the memory gets lots.
I have just downloaded Thunderbird and I'm trying to install it but whenever I try to run the "thunderbird" file it just runs and it doesn't install. How do i install it properly?
