OpenSUSE :: .jar File Runs Fine In Command Line But Not From File System?

May 3, 2010

My .jar file needs and uses some files in the same directory it's in (everything, including the jar was unzipped into said directory). It runs perfectly when I do java -jar file.jar in the command line, but there's trouble when I double-click the file when running from the file system manager. I've tried a custom command under properties ie java -jar, but the problem is that the .jar file doesn't seem to be able to use any of the files in the same directory. When running, the jar can't find any of the files that it needs.

General :: Focus On Command Line Machine System, Network Basics, And File Management Knowledge?

Feb 17, 2011

As a strategy for learning linux I have decided to adopt using a lean windows based approach. I want to focus on command line machine system, network basics, and file management knowledge. In other words find out how desktop manager does it's business, so I know how to master my machine, but by and large once I have made my choices, leave it alone to do just that.

I figure I should know how applications are internally configured etc., but I also figure an apps GUI and config choices should take care of installations, and program usage as in M$ windows. Surely taking care of an applications dependencies are the responsibility of the developer, are they not?

I am working my way through "Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition (Version 1.0.0)" right now for an overall viewpoint. Can anyone suggest a specific source for a point by point explanation of the command basis of a generalised "desktop management" application (KDE,LXDE)? Better yet would be if it had some parallel comparison of the varied approaches taken by different distributions of linux.

A secondary question, is that allowed? Up to a certain point in Ms windows, a thorough knowledge of DOS 6.xx would theoreticaly enable one to more or less duplicate the actions of the windows overlay. Is there a basic distribution (or subset in all of them maybe?) of linux that would be consistent with that paradigm? What would be analogous to DOS batch files, or GM-Basic? Oh! that's 3.I am certainly appreciating the depth of this forum, and the breadth of knowledge among you forumite's. Reading it is time well spent.

OpenSUSE Install :: Get A 64 Bit File System To Read 32 Bit File System Drives?

Feb 2, 2010

Have just assembled a new computer and thought I would install the 64 bit version of openSUSE 11.2 in a "Windows free zone". After a hiccup or two I have managed to get a system of sorts running but on trying to copy files from my old computer(via a memory stick) it tells me that Vfat is an unknown file system. On my old computer I am running 32 bit openSUSE 11.2 as a dual boot system with Windows XP and have no problems moving files between the two different file systems. Is it possible to get a 64 bit file system to read 32 bit file system drives and if so how do I do it?

CentOS 5 :: Printer In GUI Can Print Fine From The Command Line

Oct 6, 2009

I work at The University of Alabama as a sysadmin on various HPC resources and also provide support for faculty using Unix systems. I've run into one problem that is affecting two different desktop systems running CentOS 5.3.oth of these systems have the latest updates. These machines have standard network-attached printers. One is an HP LaserJet 3250 and the other is a model that is pretty close to that one.Previously these users were able to print from graphical applications such as Firefox, but now when the print dialog is opened on ANY graphical application, it causes a hard freeze on that particular app.Printing from the commandline via `lpr` gives no issues and test pages from the Printer Admin interface also succeed. This problem has me stumped, so I'm looking for any insight as to what could have changed. I do not know what changed between the time when the printers worked graphically and when they stopped, but the users assure that they have changed no settings. The only thing I can suspect is a rogue update since this is affecting separate users on separate machines with separate printers.

Server :: Use Scp Or Sftp Command Line With A Key File?

Oct 6, 2010

Running: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5.2 (Tikanga) I need to be able to automate transferring a few files over from one server to another using scp or the sftp protocol. I have received a text file which looks like a key file along with username and passphrase information for the target server in question.

Instructions were given to me to import the provided text file in puttyGen then save the imported key as a private key to be used by scp or sftp. My assumption is this is for windows utilities, which I am not using. My frustration comes in trying to automate logging into this server via sftp or scp to automate some file transfers. I am asked for a password every time because the public and private key methods failed to find my keys. How can I call scp or the sftp utilities and use the provided key file (the one I generated using puttyGen or the original one provided to me) to login to this server? I've tried taking the generated ppk file from puttygen and adding it with the ssh-add command but that still did not work.

Programming :: Using An Awk Command To Print A Line From A Cvs File?

Mar 4, 2011

I am using an awk command to print a line from a cvs file.the awk command includes an if statement that filter the output-lets say i want to print all the lines that the price field is greater than 30.i have it working when i put the parameters myself.. but when i try to send them with vars it wont work..i am sending the sign of the if statement - can only be: == , < , >it looks like this:

cat file.csv | awk -v sign=">" -v field="2000" '{if($3 sign field) printf "%-12s%-12s%-12s%-12s
",$1,$2,$3,$4}' FS=,

the bold part is the problem , because when i put the sign parameter myself t works great.. i guess its a chars issue but i cant spot it

Ubuntu Servers :: Executing PHP File Via Command Line

Nov 16, 2010

I have a php file that I need to execute via a cronjob. This file should be run by the www-data user as its a file in my /var/www/project folder. When I run this file under root (php -f cron.php) everything works perfectly, but I want it to run under the www-data to be safe. Before I run it vai crontab I tried it via command line as the www-data user and I receive errors:

Fatal Error: Allowed memory size of 8388608 bytes expired (tried to allocate 232 bytes).

But when I run it as the root user I get no errors and everything works correctly. The file cron.php is used to process automated tasks in my CRM. So I don't really want to have the root user running a crontab every few minutes for this.

Must the www-data user be given more permissions? I am using Ubuntu 6.06LTS
PHP - 5.1.2
Apache - 2.0.55
MySQL - 5.0.22
