View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm not exactly new to the linux world. I've been messing with it for six months now. I recently decided to host a public web server out of my home. The is nothing business related merely personal. Now that you have a brief background I will bring you the technical details.I'm apache2 with php, joomla, and mySQL on openSUSE 11.2. a dns server is currently configured. My problem is as follows I set up apache initially and used the default index.html page which simply says It Works. I configured my DNS at the domain registar godaddy.com. After changing the A record to point to my IP the server worked. I then proceeded to install Joomla which installed correctly. Now here is my problem. When I attempt to pull up my domain it appears my DNS is longer working properly and get a DNS error. When I attempt to go directly to IP with my server I still get the initial index.html that says it works. I'm not sure how this is possible and I have cleared all dns info, temp files cookies ect.... I have also had other people test this is as well. I've check my root document pointers for the apache website and they all point to the correct location.
My set up is as follows
Modem
Router
Windows 7 Machine
Sun Microsystems Virtual Box with openSUSE with the network adapter bridged so it can obtain an IP from my router
I'm completely lost at this point and have spent 2 days trying to resolve the issue, any help would be much appreciated. I look forward to everyones reply.
I am having a problem with a LibreOffice when saving or saving as to a Windows Share.
Configuration:
Network
Small office server running Windows. Mounted using the Gigolo manager (used without issue in version 10.10).
All of our contracts and proposals are on the server. I can open a contract in LibreOffice from the server.
(All documents I am working with are native openoffice formats, these were not MS file conversions.)
I open a document titled A_Libreoffice_test.odt from the contracts directory on the windows server. No problems. I save as A_Libreoffice_test_2.odt to the contracts directory on the Windows server and get this error box:
If I select all contents within my document and paste it into a new LibreOffice Writer file then save the new file to the contracts directory on my Windows server, it saves without any problems. However, should I open that very same file that I just created and try to save it after a change or save as without any change, I will receive the error again.
Of course copy and pasting textual contracts is one thing but we also do all of our proposals in OpenOffice Draw (LibreOffice Draw) which behaves the same way. The select all, copy/paste into a new document workaround is less attractive in Draw.
We have 5 Ubuntu machines in our office working with files on this server. For now, employees and I are having to save our documents and transfer them to the server nightly.
I did a test by booting into the MacOS where I am also running LibreOffice and did not experience the same problem.
Here is what I have tried so far:
1) Removing all libreoffice applications and files then reinstalling but that also did not solve the problem.
2) Disabling the firewall on our Windows server temporarily to test the save as function (no change).
3) Remove libreoffice and try to install OpenOffice (not successful).
4) Poured some scotch and posted this question here on the Ubuntu forum... hopefully this works

I'm trying to replace an office file server. I would like to avoid just another samba share.
I'm looking for a document repository, a bit more functionality than a plain samba share and very cross-platform.
I've looked a couple minutes at dspace, but that seems like a lot of work just configuring it. Dropbox would be fine except that they only have up to 100g, and it's off-site.
This is NOT for unauthenticated public use.
Here are some features I have in mind:
1. Web front end.
2. Any file format from a one-line text document to a Microsoft Word document to an ISO of a blu-ray disk to a very large database backup, binary or text.
3. Cross-platform clients, mostly Mac.
4. Authenticated via centralized one-login server or maybe by a key such as an SSH public key.
5. Searchable by terms, name or content if the type is appropriate.
6. Pass in the URL for an object and have the server download it.
7. Stores files in native format so if the app breaks I can just get the files.
Last night I have installed updates of plymouth themes and pidgin but some how what happens is that the updates have changed my system setting and deleted xorg.conf file and some other settings and i couldn't able to get login screen either.I have recreated it using
#Xorg -configure
but still I cant get Login screen and in the gui I only get a blank screen where cursor is blinking.
I have tried installing system-config-display and reboot the system after doing
#system-config-display --reconfig --noui
but it is still same still not getting login screen.
I have ati radeon xpress200 on board graphics card. I searched on google to how to install the ati graphics card on fedora12 and found that mesa-driver-experimental could be used for fedora12 but still after installing it I found no effect in fedora12 right now it is running on a basic vesa drivers that I have set in xorg.conf. With vesa driver I can able to login but when I have installed xorg-x11-ati drivers and then do system-config-display. I can see the login screen but after giving password. It just giving blank screen and return back to login screen and again asks for login. I can login through terminal with the same account but cant with the GUI. Now what to do to for that?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI will be relocating to a permanent residence sometime in the next year or two. I've recently begun thinking about the best way to implement a home-based network. It occurred to me that the most elegant solution might be the use of VM technology to eliminate as much hardware and wiring as possible. My thinking is this: Install a multi-core system and configure it to run several VMs, one each for a firewall, a caching proxy server, a mail server, a web server. Additionally, I would like to run 2-4 VMs as remote (RDP)workstations, using diskless workstations to boot the VMs over powerline ethernet. The latest powerline technology (available later this year) will allow multiple devices on a residential circuit operating at near gigabit speed, just like legacy wired networks.
In theory, the above would allow me to consolidate everything but the disklessworkstations on a single server and eliminate all wired (and wireless) connections except the broadband connection to the Internet and the cabling to the nearest power outlets. It appears technically possible, but I'm not sure about the various virtual connections among VMs. In theory, each VM should be able to communicate with the other as if it was on the same network via the server data bus, but what about setting up firewall zones? Any internal I/O bandwidth bottlenecks? Any other potential "gotchas", caveats, issues? (Other than the obvious requirement of having enough CPU and RAM).Any thoughts or observations welcome, especially if they are from real world experience in a VM environment. BTW--in case you're wondering why I'm posting here, it's because I run Debian on all my workstations/servers (running VirtualBox as a VM for Windows XP on one workstation).
How to change the login screen in Fedora12.i found that the blue fedora login screen a bit boring and i've downloaded a MAC4LIN file but i don't know how to use it. Any way to change the login menu screen using this Mac4lin or other methods? My target is to create a MAC login screen.....????
View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to share internet connection with Fedora12 as default gateway and XP machine hooked up via NIC using iptables commands as shown in Mark Sobell's book 'A Practical Guide To Fedora And Red Hat Enterprise Linux' These are the commands as placed in /etc/rc.local
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -j LOG
iptables -t NAT -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE
I did flip the in and out parameters to match my NIC configuration ( as opposed to example from book ) but other than that followed example. One thing to note is that Sobell did not mention whether this should work with mix of Linux and XP. One other note ( maybe meaningless ) is that I do have samba working between the two machines.

I have got a running mail server on CentOS5.4 Final using Zimbra free edition. . Assume that domain is organization.com.local And it is running fine with users created and bugzilla running on the same machine can send mails using this server. But it can obviously send messages to the internal users. There is this option to configure it to use external mail server to send mails outside the network but my external smtp server needs an authentication. Is it possible to configure it this way to use my external server to send mails from internal domain to say gmail?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI ran the install from the Fedora12 DVD, downloaded via Bit Torrent, so integrity should be OK. The install shell does not see my 3rd harddrive, which is where I want to install. I burned the KDE live version of Fedora12 to run the checks suggested by marcrblevins. The results are below. Fdisk clearly sees sdc, where I want to put Fedora.I tried installing from the live CD, but the install shell was identical to the one from the DVD, so I'm pretty sure they are both good copies. The CD install could not read the 3rd harddisk, either. Ubuntu versions 9.04 and 9.10 installed to this partition without problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedInstalling a F12 on a new 500gb SCSI disk.I had a previous SEPARATE disk with a stable F9 on it including its OWN SWAP space. After installing F12 to boot from the new disk it installed. When rebooted crashed with an Fdisk type problem ... Even though the entire O.S. was supposed to be separately installed on SCSI 500.. After many frustrating hours of why oh why? it appears as though the F12 installation by default grabs any allocated "SWAP" space on any allocated DISK.As an other O.S. had used that SWAP for itself (Which it has every right to do) Why then did F12 pick it up?? and Use it in /etc/fstab...Then crash as a result??
Removing the offending "SWAP" entry from /etc/fstab install solved the problem. But my question remains ?? Why Does F12 install pick up "foreign SWAP space"?
