I am a new user to fedora 12.I am using reliance wireless broadband for internet.i have installed the drivers and did a wvdialconf and wvdial. The output of the wvdial was:

I want to set a up a network of inter connected pcs, for example on pc A linux is installed.now pcs B, C , D, etc should connect to A and do there work, for example A want to do C/C++, development, whereas B wants to do some PERL development or whatever, this is just an example, 2 different pc users might do same work also, and the connecting pcs may have Windows or linux or bsd.OSes now what h/w or s/w is required and what steps are required to set up this network, main pc would be connected to internet and also connected pcs might want to use internet also..have installed opensuse edulife , and use this as PC A for testing.. and I use bridged dsl Broadband connection to connect to internet , by the username and password provided by the ISP, in windows its easy to setup this connection, however not able to do on linux,
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am running Xubuntu 9.04, with LXDE on an old Acer 526iTX. After fiddling around trying to connect it to a Vista machine using a crossover cable, I must have broken the internet (well not the whole internet obviously, just my connection). nm-applet will show the connection as working, but no loading takes place (eg. firefox shows 'connecting to google.com.au..' but nothing happens). Same behaviour whether browsing, pinging or updating by CLI, and over any type of connection (mobile broadband, wifi or ethernet cable). This has persisted over many days, through restarts and deleting and re-creating the connection in nm-applet. I can also rule out a hardware problem as the connections work fine using a live CD.It's no big deal if I have to reinstall (I probably will anyway), but I was wandering if anyone would know the probable cause of this behaviour.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a leased line ( speed 2 MB ) which we use to connect to our mail server , oracle ERP etc.. we have a dhcp scope defined as 192.168.100.1-192.168.101.254. with a default gateway as 192.168.100.90 ( which is a cisco router ) we have a pix firewall ( 192.168.100.10 ).. now the gateway passed all the request to firewall..we have an ADSL of 4 MB speed.. ip is 83.*.*.230 from ISP. i have a proxy server ( squid ) eth0 is connected to ISP (83.*.*.230).. eth1 to LAN ( 192.168.100.79 ) now the problem is when i put default gateway to eth1 ie 192.168.100.90 the squid connects to internet via leased line.. if i leave the default gateway field empty on eth1 , the squid connects to internet via ADSL ( which i want ) but the problem is no one on the lan cant ping the squid server ( no connectivity to internet for the whole LAN ) how can i solve this problem? PS : i want squid to connect to internet with ADSL, but if i put gateway on eth1 ie LAN squid goes through leased line which i dont want to happen

View 4 Replies View RelatedLast night I have installed updates of plymouth themes and pidgin but some how what happens is that the updates have changed my system setting and deleted xorg.conf file and some other settings and i couldn't able to get login screen either.I have recreated it using
#Xorg -configure
but still I cant get Login screen and in the gui I only get a blank screen where cursor is blinking.
I have tried installing system-config-display and reboot the system after doing
#system-config-display --reconfig --noui
but it is still same still not getting login screen.
I have ati radeon xpress200 on board graphics card. I searched on google to how to install the ati graphics card on fedora12 and found that mesa-driver-experimental could be used for fedora12 but still after installing it I found no effect in fedora12 right now it is running on a basic vesa drivers that I have set in xorg.conf. With vesa driver I can able to login but when I have installed xorg-x11-ati drivers and then do system-config-display. I can see the login screen but after giving password. It just giving blank screen and return back to login screen and again asks for login. I can login through terminal with the same account but cant with the GUI. Now what to do to for that?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to share internet connection with Fedora12 as default gateway and XP machine hooked up via NIC using iptables commands as shown in Mark Sobell's book 'A Practical Guide To Fedora And Red Hat Enterprise Linux' These are the commands as placed in /etc/rc.local
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth1 -o eth0 -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o eth1 -j ACCEPT
iptables -A FORWARD -j LOG
iptables -t NAT -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j MASQUERADE
I did flip the in and out parameters to match my NIC configuration ( as opposed to example from book ) but other than that followed example. One thing to note is that Sobell did not mention whether this should work with mix of Linux and XP. One other note ( maybe meaningless ) is that I do have samba working between the two machines.
I have written simple modules (device driver)and i tried to compile and i found in /usr/src/ linux directory doesn't exists.
i have included </linux/modules.h> - doesn't exists in the /usr/src/ directory

View 2 Replies View RelatedDoes anybody know why the upgrade/install of TeXLive on Fedora12 does not create the directory /usr/local/ texlive/2009.I have seen this directory mentioned for other 2009s, but when I installed 2009 it did not create this. (Or, maybe there was some problem... ?) It is only slightly relevant because (sudo) texhash does not include any /usr/local directories in 2009, only /usr/share.
In my 2007 version I had the usual /usr/local/share/texmf/tex structure in which I place /latex and a /bibtex. I had read/write access and so I placed all my .sty and .bib files, as well as image files and other stuff I shared between projects. Now, I have a ~/texmf with /tex and /bibtex and have gotten rid of /latex subdirectory. Now I don't have to texhash when I add new stuff.Other than this, is there any reason why Fedora TeXLive-2009 would not create /usr/local/texlive ? (Unless this is because, as the wiki page notes , "it is in testing state so bugs could occur."
I hve following doubts regarding cross-compiling
1. if cross toolchain build wth differnet library other than the one using presently on host, will it b matter.
2. if toolchain build for 32-bit nd if i'm running it on 64-bit will it b matter.
I've installed Ubuntu server edition 10.4 to one of my older computers and When I go to install something I get the error message Package could not be found. I'm assuming it's not connected to the internet. It doesn't Show up on my router. I'm trying to install Ubuntu-desktop using the code "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop.
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday I updated my kernel, and then i could not run my wireless card, since I use the broadcom STA driver and there was no update on rpmfusion yet.
I googled and downloaded akmod, and all got fixed after a reboot.
Latter last night, i got an update message in wich, among other updates, was rmpfusion's aforementioned update, I installed it.
After a reboot, I am connected to my network, ifconfig throws normal stuff (default gateway, ip adresses and subnet mask) and i LOOKS like there should be no problem
however I'm unable to connect to any website, or access any remote server via ssh, or ping anything.
Also, i disabled ipv6 in firefox just in case, and it was no use.
I am very new to the wonderful world of Linux and from what I've read about and my limited experience (approx. 3 hrs) I like it; but I'm having one problem that I need to get fixed: I'm dual booting currently with W7 (boo) only because I can't get my internet to stay connected(?) for extended periods of time using F15.
When I first installed F15, everything went smoothly, it asked me for my PW for the wireless internet and it said that it was connected. After I loaded Firefox for the first time, thinking to myself "Awesome, it set itself up completely and is running perfectly) I was let down. On my laptop I have Quickbuttons. Touch sensitive buttons above my F-keys (incase you didn't know what I was referring to. When I connect to the internet, with my wireless card on, I can successfully load 1 internet page. Halfway though the page load, the internet light/button starts to flash repeatedly on/off rapidly. Internet connectivity seems to have stopped at this point as I can not load another internet page or use the chat window any more. If I disconnect from my internet and reconnect, everything works fine for 1 more internet page then back to flashing and no more connectivity.
If I restart using the Windows OS, everything works fine and my desktop is working normally as well, so it must be something with F15. What do I need to do in order to get the internet card to work continuously? What am I missing? Please remember, I'm very new to this and all the troubleshooting web pages that I've found thus far are talking WAY above my head.

I hooked up to a wired connection and ubuntu installed the drivers for the broadcom card.When I put the cursor over the wireless icon on the desktop it shows the name of my wireless connection,active,and my ip address but when I open firefox I get a "server not found". I'm confused as what to put in the boxes for ssid,mode,bssid,mac address,and mtu under network connections. I have tried put my routers IP in /etc/resolve.conf but to no avail. I also tried putting 8.8.8.8.

im using mandrake linux 2010.0 , and i connected my router cable (dlink) to the computer, and it detects without needing configuration to the 'eth0' and it shows me the ip the dns and gateway, everything ok, but then i go in firefox it says that i couldent connect because theres no internet connection,ive looked at the proxys the firewall, tried to uninstal the eth0, the ppp0 and install then again and still the same,does any one have an idea of what could be?
