Server :: Create A Virtual User System With Mysql?

I'm using dovecot pop3 server in my website. I tried to create a virtual user system with mysql. But it didn't work. Next I tried to debug my work with reading of dovecot log. I enabled logging in it by changing this values in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-logging.conf:

auth_verbose = yes
auth_debug = yes
auth_debug_passwords = yes
After that I tried to login to the pop3 via telnet and it failed as usual. After I checked the log file (/var/log/dov), but it does not contain any information about that failed login. Only there was some information about starting up of dovecot! Does any body know that what is the problem and why dovecot doesn't log that?

I am trying to create virtual hosts for each user on my server using Name-based virtual hosts and then make a symbolic link to /home/userdir/html
Here is what I have for my virtual hosts:

What do I need to add to make it follow symbolic links in /home/userdir/html?

I've got a working Virtual Postfix server running with mysql doing user authentication. I have a support email address set as support@hostname.com, which has 5 aliases associated; user1, user2, user3, user4, and user5. When an email is sent to support@hostname.com, all 5 users receive the email, just as planned. What I'm looking to do is when an email is sent to support@hostname.com to have it rotate through the members of the alias group. That way all members of the group get support emails evenly and not everybody all at once. Is this possible?

I installed mysql on FC14, but can't successfully create a new user. It lets me go through all the steps without complaint, but then I can't log into mysql as the new user.
Here's what I did.
1) yum install mysql mysql-server
2) service mysqld start ##sets up mysql
3) mysqladmin -u root password myownsecrectpass ##create a root password
3b) mysql -uroot -p; #log in as root, this works fine
4) CREATE DATABASE webdb;
5) CREATE USER 'anewuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password123'; ##create anewuser with a passwd
6) GRANT ALL ON webdb.* TO anewuser@'%';
7) FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Then I log out of mysql as root and try to log in like this
mysql -uanewuser -p
I enter the password and get this error:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

MySQL gets installed with root user by default, root user can administer every mysql database installed in the system. Question is how to create a new user that will not be able to administer all the databases in the system the way as root user is? Can it be done using webmin?

I have installed on a remote server phpmyadmin 3.3.1 and mysql 5.1.46 on a centos 5.4 OS.
Any newly created user with phamyadmin is unable to login both from mysql command line (from localhost) and phpmyadmin (localhost and remotely).
No prob when the user is created with mysql command line (from localhost). All of the users created with phpmyadmin, are not "visible" recognized from the show user command via the mysql command line. The setting I used when I create any user was the same as the ones with the mysql command line creation.
The error message I get when accessing from mysql command line (from localhost) is the following: "Access denied for user ... @localhost (using password: yes)"

I was following the above guide to get a mail server up and running. The major difference in it all is the fact that my server is running i686, but I compensated for that easily, just a difference in folder/RPM names. [URL]. Otherwise I followed it to a "T." Everything seemed to go smoothly, no trips or falls until the very end.
After installing squirrelmail and trying to login on admin@withfrosted.com returns ERROR:
Connection dropped by IMAP server.
Uncle google tells me to run this command because SELinux is overzealous:
setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=1
And that works, and I thought I was home free. However, after that, I'm presented with a new error. However, google told me to send an email to create the mailbox because it wasn't there, yet. So I send a test email on over, but that fails, and so does mailx. Next I created /home/vmail/withfrosted.com/admin while logged into the vmail user for proper permissions. Squirrelmail now logs into the mail box but gives me yet another new error, in which I am now stuck on:
ERROR:
ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: SELECT "INBOX"
Reason Given: Unable to open this mailbox.
As a summary, because I'm all over the place, here:
1. Can't view the mailbox via Squirrelmail.
2. Can't receive email, tried with mailx and a test email from gmail.

I'm working on a script. fter it has installed and removed packages, I need to configure a ton of settings. In GNOME, I understand that those settings are kept in "/home/user/.gconf". Can I create a virtual machine and configure the system through the GUI to my liking and then dump all of the settings, so that I can load them on another machine? Is it as simple as copying the directories?

lately i notice that when i add a new user withthe useradd and passwd command, and then try to login using this new account, am being prompted with a message,saying ' you cannot access /home/newuser. that the account doesnot have permission on his home directory. i have even tried go give the user(john) ownership over his home directory with the #chown -R john:john /home/john

Might this is silly question but I am not much familiar to database.I am doing master slave Mysql replication for load balancing. On master server different database has different user privileges. I create backup using mysqldump command and restore on slave server instead of using load data from master; command.When i replicate database from master to slave will i require to set user privileges same as master ?One more question: How to lock all database in mysql?

i would like to copy all files from my server001 (/var/www/vhosts/*/httpdocs/) to my server002 (/var/www/virtual/*/htdocs/) i would do it via rsync... but i dont want to do it as root! what would be the right user with which I should login myself via rsync? www-data? its the group of each domain-folder...

I'm trying to set up a virtual machine environment in Centos5.5. My hardware fully supports virtualization, and I'm running qemu as the hypervisor with Virtual Machine Manager as the GUI to manage and create VMs. Host hardware is a Dell PowerEdge T710, with a quad core Xenon processor and four 1TB disks in a raid 6 array.
Within the Virtual Machine Manager when trying to create a new VM, there is the option to not "allocate entire virtual disk now". What format is created when you "allocate entire virtual disk now" and when you don't?
I want to create a qcow2 image format, but it doesn't look like it is supported. Does anybody know how to create a VM with a qcow2 image format?
When you create a blank disk with "qemu-img create -f qcow2 disk.qcow2 3700G", it indeed does create a qcow2 image. However, Virtual Machine Manager is unable to read these images, claiming that it is 15 megs or so in size (which is what it actually occupies in host disk space until you try and put a VM into it).

I'm using an older redhat system (2.6.9-22.ELsmp) here which is running an older mysql (server version: 4.1.12). I don't think that's the source of the problems. I believe that have understood things rightly when I say that the mysql root user is unrelated to the linux root user ... in my case I believe the root user to be the unix user mysql. So when I connect to the server (local host from a local terminal) I use:

and enter a blank password
This gets me on, however I seem unable to do anything like create database or alter privilege. I wonder if its related to my finding no database called mysql?

I've tried every manual there is for creating new MySQL users ... but without success.
I keep getting

ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'test'@'localhost' (using password: YES) even though I just created it with all privileges ... WITH a password that I DO remember .
Fortunately I still have access via the MySQL root user (so I try not to disturb that user, because I have had computers with THAT account not accessible as well - even WITH resetting the password via skip-grant-tables).

I am running Debian under virtual container. I need to set max size of directory for each of vsftpd virtual users - because they are virtual, I cannot use user quotas. I was wondering, if I could create images with filesystem and mount them, but I cannot access /dev/loop device from container. I did something silly and changed my root user access for mysql access to Any from localhost using webmin. I get an access dented when i try to open up the mysql editing page on webmin. Can any of you tell me if there is a way to change it back to hosts=localhost I am using webmin 1.5.30 on Centos 5.5. I am hoping I can change it by command line or if I can access the config files and change it that way?
