CentOS 5 :: Phpmyadmin Unable To Create A New User In Mysql Database
May 13, 2010
I have installed on a remote server phpmyadmin 3.3.1 and mysql 5.1.46 on a centos 5.4 OS.
Any newly created user with phamyadmin is unable to login both from mysql command line (from localhost) and phpmyadmin (localhost and remotely).
No prob when the user is created with mysql command line (from localhost). All of the users created with phpmyadmin, are not "visible" recognized from the show user command via the mysql command line. The setting I used when I create any user was the same as the ones with the mysql command line creation.
The error message I get when accessing from mysql command line (from localhost) is the following: "Access denied for user ... @localhost (using password: yes)"

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 with Apache, phpMyAdmin and MySQL. Normally phpMyAdmin loads properly, but the other day I created a large database of 6,000+ tables and 1.3 GB of data in the entire database. Now phpMyAdmin loads and shows my different databases, but if I try to open the new large database, it just loads a white page with no content. Does anyone know if I can reconfigure my server so it will be able to show parts of the database?

I've setup a CentOS apache web server, and loaded a site onto it. The site previously was functioning under windows xp (before I "stepped in") and wamp. What I did was copy the site in /var/www, reconfigure the httpd.conf (DocumentRoot /var/www/site, etc). Although when I try to open the webpage I get this error: Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:The MySQL adapter "mysql" is not available.

i'm trying to create a database with the mysql that came with the suse installation, my problem is that i can't get mysqladmin to work it spits out this: connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)' Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' exists! So I'm stuck at square one php info() seems ok with the installation and the installed client connects to my remote DB ok. I checked the server with ps -ef | grep mysqld and I get the following:
2438 2436 0 15:47 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/mysqld --defaults-file=/home/ben/.local/share/akonadi//mysql.conf --datadir=/home/ben/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/ --socket=/home/ben/.local/share/akonadi/socket-linux-ygk7.site/mysql.socket root 6248 6151 0 16:01 pts/0 00:00:00 grep mysqld
Which doesn't really mean a lot to me but looks ok, anyway my question boils down to does anyone have any obvious ideas of what I'm doing wrong or is, as others have hinted, suse's mysql installation is broken?

Though this might seem like a [URL] question at first glance I don't think it is. I have a mysql database on a server at work. Every time I log in to execute a query, I have to manually select the one database I want from the one database I have, which is a waste of time. Is there any way for me as an end user to set a default?

Summary: Does a discrepancy between MySQL client library 5.0.x and MySQL server of 5.1.50 cause "inconsistent behavior", as reported by phpMyAdmin? The longer version: Windows Sysadmin taking the plunge into Linux. I tried to spare you all the rookie questions and did a fair bit of reading. I'm rather happy I was able to get CentOS 5.5 installed and running, configured iptables, got the kernel updated, Apache, MySQL and PHP installed. Then upgraded PHP to 5.2 after I figured out how repos and priorities work.
I got phpMyAdmin installed and running, then decided to upgrade from 2.11 to 3.3.7 but it keeps complaining that my MySQL client libraries are something like 5.0.63, while my server is 5.1.50, and this may cause "inconsistent behavior" or something of the like. So, feeling industrious, I decided to find an updated client.
MySQL-client-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
But it wouldn't let me install it as it conflicted with the default mysql-server installation. I also couldn't remove just the old client, to update to a newer one. So I blew away everything mysql on my server and installed the above client
MySQL-server-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
and that server file. I'm assuming I'm missing dependencies now as phpMyAdmin claims it can't load the mysql extension. Attempting to 'yum' php-mysql tried to install 'mysql' as a dependency, which immediately conflicted with the files I'd installed. At this point I'm wondering if I'm closing in on successfully installing a version that phpMyAdmin doesn't complain about, or if I should even care that it is complaining and just go back to all the repo versions of everything.
# rpm -e MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm
error: package MySQL-shared-community-5.1.50-1.rhel5.i386.rpm is not installed

I'm attempting to install OpenBiblio to give it a test drive. I'm having trouble with one of the first steps within the openbiblio install guide. The step is dealing with MySQL in creating user priveleges to the db created. The step is:
Create an OpenBiblio database user. To do this, login to MySQL under the admin userid and run the following SQL command, substituting obiblio_user and obiblio_password with the userid and password of your choice.
mysql> grant all privileges on OpenBiblio.* to obiblio_user@localhost
-> identified by 'obiblio_password';
When I run the "grant all priveleges" command I receive a syntax error. I've spent some time googleing and it comes up with the same command. There has been a few variations attempted such as 'obiblio_user'@'localhost' but still recieve a syntax error.

We started our project (it's a website "employee performance appraisal system") in windows by starting with some html forms and then slowlyadded php ,javascript and other stuff in windows we had no issues of insertion and retrieval of data from thedatabase.Now,we decided to shift the entire stuff to drupal the html forms along with those php files but we had 2 issues with this1. the first one was ..we created "page" for each html form and copied the html code into "page" but we didn't find where our pages are getting stored (do they get stored in mysql database that we create for drupal siter do they remain as html pages somwhere?)2.second problem was ...for admin in drupal I gave the username "root" and a password ..similarly for mysql also I gave a password.
now I used phpmyadmin and created another database called "appraisal" which is supposed to hold the data of our website.when I try to insert data into one of the tables of this database (attendance table) ,the following error occured "Attempt to connect failed access denied for user 'root'@'localhost'(using password:NO) cannot run querry insert intoattendance values('x','y')" Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (usingpassword:NO)Also I'm unable to access mysql as a normal user only super user can access and can we unset the password that's required to reach mysqlprompt?

I just installed mysql and need to move the databases to a new location.I say 'no problem' I shutdown mysql (service mysqld stop) I configure my.cnf to point to the new location, which in my case is: /mnt/data/mysql. I know not very original naming. I do the old chown -R mysql:mysql /mnt/datal/mysql AND I copy all the files over (cp -R /var/lib/mysql /mnt/cgsvol/mysql) chmod 777 /mnt/data/mysql I ensure the chown worked (ls -a -l) and the files are there from the old directory. I can't load the daemon again. I check the log (/var/log/mysqld.log) and it can't write any test file to that directory.
(log file exact data).

Unless your distro has taken care of it Centos 5.5, you'll need to create a user with a password and read/write privileges for program database. You can do this using the MySQL command line client if you are familiar with it. Well I am not familiar with it, so I wam wondering how to do it. As well when I run
mysql - p program </usr/share/program/mysql.sql>
It asks for a password. how do i find out this password.

I am writing a simple application that will run as user foo (i.e. Ubuntu user foo).However, the application will connect to my database as (database user foobar). IIRC, database users have nothing to do with Linux system users - but I just need to clarify that.So can an app launched to run as user 'foo', connect to a database as user 'foobar'?

I installed mysql on FC14, but can't successfully create a new user. It lets me go through all the steps without complaint, but then I can't log into mysql as the new user.
Here's what I did.
1) yum install mysql mysql-server
2) service mysqld start ##sets up mysql
3) mysqladmin -u root password myownsecrectpass ##create a root password
3b) mysql -uroot -p; #log in as root, this works fine
4) CREATE DATABASE webdb;
5) CREATE USER 'anewuser'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password123'; ##create anewuser with a passwd
6) GRANT ALL ON webdb.* TO anewuser@'%';
7) FLUSH PRIVILEGES;
Then I log out of mysql as root and try to log in like this
mysql -uanewuser -p
I enter the password and get this error:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

I'm using dovecot pop3 server in my website. I tried to create a virtual user system with mysql. But it didn't work. Next I tried to debug my work with reading of dovecot log. I enabled logging in it by changing this values in /etc/dovecot/conf.d/10-logging.conf:
Code:
log_path=/var/log/dov
auth_verbose = yes
auth_debug = yes
auth_debug_passwords = yes
After that I tried to login to the pop3 via telnet and it failed as usual. After I checked the log file (/var/log/dov), but it does not contain any information about that failed login. Only there was some information about starting up of dovecot! Does any body know that what is the problem and why dovecot doesn't log that?
