View 1 RepliesDoes squid automatically split bandwidth between connected clients? I'm wondering if someone was downloading a lot of data and someone else connected whether it would split the access 50:50 between them? I have 1 user that is using a lot of bandwidth but the server doesn't seem to split it up between all connected clients so others are receiving slow access. I don't have this client's IP address but I do have ncsa auth connected. Will delay_pools work with an ncsa username?

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to monitor the current bandwidth in use by a user (NCSA auth) on squid? Occasionally we get a user downloading too many videos at once, which blocks bandwidth to other users on the network. As I have no idea which user it is until the end of the day (SARG reports), we just restart the squid server to disconnect their downloads.

My linux box has 3 network adapter. eth0 connects with ISP, eth1 is for staff network, eth2 is for public user. I want to limit the usage of internet bandwidth. for example, the traffic going through eth0, 75% is for staff network, 25% is for public user.In addition, I setup shorewall on it for port forwarding and filtering, but I felt the traffic shaping of shorewall is complex. I don't need the specific TOS, but only the percentage. could you give me some suggestion?Which software or package I should use to achieve this goal?

View 3 Replies View RelatedCan squid do 'fair bandwidth sharing' ? What i mean is, if there is 1 user online on a 4mg line, that user will be using the entire 4mg line speed, and if there are 2 users online, each user will have 2mg line speed, and so on. I have squid cache set up already, but i just need to know how bandwidth distribution/sharing can be handled Can squid also be used to limit/disconnect users after they have used up their allotted bandwidth? Anybody know why is this happen?

I want to limit bandwidth for downloading files with squid. I want to reserve bandwidth for other traffic (esp. web browsing). I know about delay pools but I don't understand well. Some users use download managers to download large movie files. I don't want to block downloading but I want to give them limited bandwidth. May be 5KBps or 6KBps because I have only 512Kbps (64KBps) connection.

I want to configure squid delay pool for the following scenario:
Internet Connection Speed: 7Mbps
3 Types of clients
Type 1: unlimited access to bandwidth
Type 2: 1.5 Mbps
Type 3: 512 Kbps
Unlimited access ip address 192.168.4.1,2,5,10
1.5 mbps ip addresses 192.168.4.3,4,6-9,11
512 mbps ip addresses 192.168.4.12-14
How to create acl for these ip's and delay pools for above speed.
I have configured router(192.168.1.2) to serve only one machine with IP - '192.168.1.6' and set up SQUID proxy on '192.168.1.6'. I have defined some rules(ACL) regarding connections to internet on SQUID proxy.
I changed the Gateway of rest of machine (192.168.1.60 - 192.168.1.69) from '192.168.1.2' to '192.168.1.6'.
The policies which I defined in SQUID is working properly but 'Linux Evolution mail' client is not fetching mails.
Is I have to do any other settings on 'Linux System' or 'Evolution mail client'.
There is a program called Mikrotik to control wireless installations based on Linux, I wonder if I can get the same result using the Slack as a server, if there is a tutorial for this? I would do in my wireless provider, "bandwidth control, allows shares to clients or not." I have an excellent tutorial for using Slack with the server, but is missing from clarify the two issues with quotes and if I can use the Slack not the Mikrotik?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI look after a server which accepts automatic overnight PASV FTP uploads from remote clients. When the uploads are complete, my Bash script copies the files to another location. The problem is, my script needs to be a bit smarter when it comes to detecting active FTP sessions.
I was using:
Code:
netstat -n | grep ":21 " | grep ESTABLISHED
to test if there were active sessions, but came unstuck when a local user left an unrelated FTP session active. The result - my script hung around all night thinking there was an active upload from a remote client. My server is behind a firewall, so remote clients all show an internal (NAT) address,so I can't differentiate by source IP address.I can't install LSOF or FUSER for security reasons. Is there a way I can test for active FTP sessions from specific users? I am running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.2 (Tikanga).

In other words, if one of our employees is getting harassed by a 'stalker', how would one go about blocking, at the MTA (Sendmail) level, a specific sender email address from reaching a particular users inbox? We do not want to capture the email - simply block it before it consumes server resources. The Sendmail server (MTA) is a front end to our Exchange server so no user accounts exist on the Linux server. We simply use it as a SPAM and Virus scanner then forward clean email to the Exchange server.
