Server :: Monitor The Current Bandwidth In Use By A User (NCSA Auth) On Squid?
Jan 29, 2010
Is there anyway to monitor the current bandwidth in use by a user (NCSA auth) on squid? Occasionally we get a user downloading too many videos at once, which blocks bandwidth to other users on the network. As I have no idea which user it is until the end of the day (SARG reports), we just restart the squid server to disconnect their downloads.
I want to use squid Proxy to ask username password to user for internet usage and if username password not correct squid stops user access.I use following installation commands and configuration but still squid not asking for username password, and I can use Internet browsing by defining proxy in my client proxy.I use following installataion commands one by one but non of them works, and configure squid to use ncsa_auth../configure --enable-delay-pools --enable-linux-netfilter --enable-arp-acl --disable-ident-lookups --enable-snmp --enable-removal-policies
with following squid.conf configuration one by one.
htpasswd /usr/local/squid/etc/passwd testuser New password: Re-type new password:
[code]....
No error received in access.log or /var/logs/messages files, nor on client screen, client still using internet browsing without asking username password by squid,
I am using auth_param basic program /usr/lib/squid/squid_ldap_auth to authenticate users using squid from ldap. The user and pass is in clear text over the network between the browser and the squid server. Any way to send it in an encrypted format??
i Have a Squid Server , i'm Using That for Caching ... i Have 3 Ether on My " Squid Server ". Ether1 : Directly Internet From ISP1 , 2Mbps . Ether2 : Directly Internet From ISP2 , 512 KBps . Ether3 : Connected too LAN . i want All The Files Format with " MP3 , RAR , ZIP , AVI , ... (All Downloads File) " Get From Ether1(ISP1) and WebPages Like " HTML , ASP , CGI , & ... " Get from Ether2(ISP2) i Not Know How to Configure That with My 2 ISP internet.
Does squid automatically split bandwidth between connected clients? I'm wondering if someone was downloading a lot of data and someone else connected whether it would split the access 50:50 between them? I have 1 user that is using a lot of bandwidth but the server doesn't seem to split it up between all connected clients so others are receiving slow access. I don't have this client's IP address but I do have ncsa auth connected. Will delay_pools work with an ncsa username?
I have configured a normal squid & now I want to manage internet bandwidth thru. "squid" proxy only. Squid proxy server ip is :- 192.168.17.30 Client PC ip addres is 192.168.17.25 Total bandwidth avaialable :- 2 Mbps Now, I want to limit bandwith of 400 kbps for the ip address 192.168.17.25 pc only. So, is there any method available for bandwidth limiting for a single pc?
when the server is getting overloaded with users. At present I run the server mainly as a proxy server with about 100 users. The bandwidth at the data centre is 100Mbps connection with total bandwidth used last month = 17431.16 MB
I would like to add a VPN in future but feel that this might overload the bandwidth as instead of it just being web traffic it will the entire client TCP connections. I would like to monitor this before it gets to the stage where users are complaining but not sure how to gauge whether the proxy is being overloaded. It is used mainly for video traffic.
We have a sipmle office network set up that we also use use to connect to the internet, however of late the number of users has increased thus slowing internet access. Bandwidth upgrade is not an option thus i have to do bandwidth shaping on our linux router. The question is how do set the squid configs to allow certain IP's range a certain percentage bandwidtheg 60% and furthe divide the rest. Alternatively how can allow certain IPs to have higher bandwidth access.
So: On the VPS / Dedicated Server Linux wich 3 users created. How can I limit bandwidth each in a separate? For example first user speed 1 MB. 5 MB second and third 10 MB. Expect some clear answers. Regards, Silviu!
I run Debian 64-bit. I host GameServers on my machine. Yesterday, some corrupt files or error in configurations of one of the game-servers caused my whole system to destabilize. On checking, I saw one of the Gameserver's console giving Net_sendpacket spam errors. I disabled that server and things were fine then. It used up more than 100GB of my bandwidth in just 12 hours.
I deleted the server and copied all the files over again to fix that error. Now I want a prevention to this, if just in case it happens again. I want to limit a sub-user's bandwidth in Linux. Like if I want a user only to use 10GB bandwidth per month + not more than 5MB/second. Is there any way to do it?
recently i rent a xen vps intended to setup a PPTPD vpn server for me and my friends. so we can by-pass the great firewall in china and get back on ....., facebook and stuff. i have already setup the server and i can connect to it without any problem. but i still want to do some further configuration the server:
1. i want to limit the bandwidth to 400k/s per connection. 2. i also want to limit the max connection per user a/c
i have some thoughts on the 2nd requirement. in the user configuration file of /etc/ppp/chap-secret, you can specify the range of ip the user can get, does it limit the max connection per user a/c? or they can connect anyway, just every now and then a box pop up says conflict in IP address?
I am using SQUID 2.6 on cent os. Squid as a proxy server is working fine. I want to manage my bandwidth according to my office staff.Like for top management users may allocate 1 MB and rest of the users as 256 kb.Kindly guide me that how can I do it ?
Can squid do 'fair bandwidth sharing' ? What i mean is, if there is 1 user online on a 4mg line, that user will be using the entire 4mg line speed, and if there are 2 users online, each user will have 2mg line speed, and so on. I have squid cache set up already, but i just need to know how bandwidth distribution/sharing can be handled Can squid also be used to limit/disconnect users after they have used up their allotted bandwidth? [I have a mikrotik router connected to the adsl (for wireless users)]
Suppose when I install squid proxy server Can I view the web pages visited by a particular user/machine in a particular session? I think we can analise the information by the log files of squid. But can I view the page(static)?
I'm having problems with squid, and i don't know how to solve them because I'm new to linux. a. Why squid in my computer often does not work? The process has already started (using the command sudo squid start), but the Internet on client computers can not connect. This can be be resolved if the proxy server computer is restarted. Anybody know why is this happen?
b. How do I set the client bandwidth limitation using squid? I want the client computers can only use maximum 60-70 KB / s. Do I need another additional software package?
I want to limit bandwidth for downloading files with squid. I want to reserve bandwidth for other traffic (esp. web browsing). I know about delay pools but I don't understand well. Some users use download managers to download large movie files. I don't want to block downloading but I want to give them limited bandwidth. May be 5KBps or 6KBps because I have only 512Kbps (64KBps) connection.
I installed webmin on Debian apt-get install webmin. After installation following message came. Code: Setting up webmin (1.510-2) ... Webmin install complete. You can now login to https://IP:10000/ as root with your root password, or as any user who can use sudo to run commands as root. So I infer that the installation was successful.
But when I do Code: http://IP:10000
I get following error Code: Error 111 (net::ERR_TUNNEL_CONNECTION_FAILED): Unknown error.
I have configured squid proxy on centos 5.5 and some of my squid.conf file has following lines
Code:
http_access allow ncsa_users office
There are 3 users called "user034, user035 and user050" in the /etc/squid/squid_passwd file need to restricted access to internet except sites www.abc.com form anywhere in the lan. Once they logged in any ip, rule should apply.(that means no ip related acl, only user name related) How can I configure this in squid.
How to set download limit using SQUID? I want to specify the download limit for a particular list in MB. Is it possible to limit bandwith for some group of machines in network?

Lately I have been receiving this in my auth.log file. It seems to be repeating over and over, and I didn't know if was anything normal or something I should be worried about...
I am hosting some websites and i want to monitor who is using more resources from a thoughput standpoint... Would this be bandwidth monitoring. can use to monitor these sites. I am using an uptodate version of apache2 and a single ip vhost setup.
