Server :: Mounting Multiple LUNs Over 1 HBA?

Apr 27, 2011

Is it possible to present multiple LUNs from 1 SAN with 1 NFS server? Currently, my NFS server is directly connected to my FC SAN. Do I have to install and configure multipathing for this to work OR is this just not possible to do over one connection?

Programming :: Mounting Multiple Devices To Root?

May 16, 2010

I'm trying to build a custom setup that requires a flash drive and a CD to both be mounted to root. Applications, boot data, and other static directories are on the CD, while /home, /opt, and /tmp are on the flash drive. Is there a special option I can enter into fstab to allow this? If not, I intend to modify my kernel to allow this, but I'll need to find the sources that control this function.

Software :: Mounting Images With Multiple Partitions?

Jul 12, 2010

Say I have an image of a file system. I made it with dd by copying it off my USB stick. e.g. "sudo dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=./image.ext2" I can mount said image with the command: "sudo mount -t ext2 -o loop ./image.ext2 /mnt/" Now, say instead of copying a partition with dd, I copy a whole drive. e.g. "sudo dd if=/dev/sdb of=./image.img". sdb had 2 partitions on it. How can I mount those separate partitions without copying that image back onto the USB drive?

Ubuntu Networking :: Mounting Samba Shares On A Box With Multiple User Accounts?

Jul 29, 2010

I setup samba file sharing to auto mount in fstab. Everything works great except when a computer has more than on user account.

The folders in mnt are owned by root and ownership changes to the first user account no matter what user logs in. So only the first user can edit files in the mounted share.

Anyone got a clue why this is happening? Seems the mount folders should be changing ownership to the user that is logged in.

General :: Multiple Servers Or One Server With Multiple VMWare?

Feb 7, 2011

I'm looking at setting up a couple automated systems: Here are a few examples:

* Internal accounting system to download and process emails
* Public web server to visit

I could put each system on its own separate box -- for example, it's generally good practice to separate anything that external users have access to (such as a webserver) from internal processes such as accounting. Now, rather than dishing out the money for two separate servers, could I get away with just installing new instances of VMWare on the same box for each system?

To give you an idea, these are not large scale computationally sensitive systems. The accounting one is simply downloading and tallying emails, and the latter is just a webserver with maybe 5 hits per day on a good day. I could definitely pick up a new box for say $50, but I wanted to know the general practice of using VMWare on the same box versus two separate boxes.

Server :: XFS Filesystem Not Mounting

Sep 13, 2010

I have an XFS filesystem (not my root filesystem) that is not mounting.

We had a power failure over the weekend. All but one of our XFS mounts is comming up. Its a large mount (2TB) and I am not seeing errors per se...

But after attempting to mount it, it has been 4 hours and all we see in either dmesg output or in the messages file from the kernel is:

Our mount process is dead and I don't see any disk i/o going on. Am I missing something here on this?

I rebooted the box once earlier and was able mount read-only with norecovery...

I tried xfs_check and it also produced a dead "xfs_df -i -p xfs_check -c check /dev/sdd1"

Networking :: Server On Multiple VLANs Server Not Responding To Pings From Non-local Subnets?

Jul 14, 2010

I've got a machine running Ubuntu Server that is on several VLANs. Each VLAN has its own subnet and the server has an address on each subnet. The switches are set to allow tagged traffic to the server for each VLAN that it is on. Switch ports ending with workstations are given untagged ports on whatever VLAN is appropriate. Workstations are given addresses on a subnet for each VLAN via DHCP. All this works great and hosts on any subnet/VLAN can access the server as normal via its address on that subnet/VLAN.

Accessing the machine by its address on a non-local subnet is where I run into a problem. Inter-subnet traffic has to go through a router, which has been set up appropriately. Running tcpdump on the server and pinging it from a workstation on a subnet, using its address on a different subnet, shows the server receives the ping, but sends no response:

Code:
sudo tcpdump -i vlan4 -n
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode

Security :: Mounting Centralized NAS Server With NFS?

Mar 24, 2011

- we have a bunch of linux servers.

- lots of users work with linux Desktops. They use them as testing servers.

- All the infrastructure has the Authentication services linked by Quest Auth Services againts an AD. This gives us the option of logon scripts, startup scripts, and other things.

- One interesting option this Quest thing gives us is SUDO management. We can edit sudoers file by GPO politics.

- Now we are deploying a NAS server from Hitachi with cifs and NFS mapping capabilities.

- Servers are managed by IT, so nobody can go root except us.

- Desktop users will also mount the NFS shares so they will be able to work with real data and read their own data from servers.

- Desktop users can go sudo su.

- If desktop users go from root to another user, the NFS let them work as they where the other user.

I would like to keep them from swithching users, but only between AD users, they must be able to switch to apache user or postgres user.

Networking :: Mounting Permissions Error / Mounting A Windows Host?

May 28, 2009

I am having permissions errors every time I try to mount a windows host. I have a linux server and all the windows computers can see that computer and its files, but we wanted to start backing up the linux machine to one of our other computers. so I tried to mount one of the computers. here is the sequence of events:

Code:
$mount -t cifs //192.168.1.194/Admin$ /mnt/Anita-comp
password: (I have no password so I left it blank)
Mount error (13): Permission Denied
I tried all sorts of passwords we use around the office and none of them worked.

I then decided to try mounting one of our other computers. this one looked like it worked fine. no error messages at all. (I left password blank) so I look in my filesystem and the mounted drive is not in the /mnt/Anita-comp file. What gives?

Networking :: Mounting Shares From Windows Server

Dec 8, 2010

My question is that I have a handful of servers, Server 1 is a Suse Linux machine and Server 2 is a Windows Server 2003 machine. I can mount and access the files/shares on the Linux machine no problem but when I come to using the Server 2003 shares I encounter problems ... here is a snip of my fstab ...

Code:
//10.0.0.20/applications /myfolder/applications cifs username=user1,password=pass1,auto,uid=user2,gid=group2,0 0
user1 and pass1 is the username and password of a user (local to the remote machine) and user2 and group2 are taken from the machine performing the mount.

Am I doing it right, is that how I should be mounting a share from a (Domain enabled) Windows Server 2003?
