SUSE / Novell :: Thin - Not Small - Font On Firefox ?

Aug 7, 2010

I just recently move from win 7 to opensuse, and still new on linux. just wondering if there is solution for thin font on firefox. I already search google for solution, the best solution so far is to lower screen resolution to 1024x768 (I prefer 1280x800).

Other tempt I tried are:
1. install freetype2, but the setting in "about:config" page on firefox aren't there. already try to create new boolean, but no effect at all.

2. install dejavu font and use it on firefox, but the font is still thin.

3. set minimum font size to 18. easier to read, but too big and messing up with website layout.

currently I'm using:
-dejavu font, minimum font size 18
-allow web to use own font (enable)

here's screenshot: [url]

OpenSUSE :: Font Too Small And Thin And Fuzzy In 11.2

Nov 14, 2009

Is it just me or the fonts in opensuse are way too small and thin and fuzzy? Expecially compared to those in ubuntu. So I changed my dpi font for my 1440*900 17 inches laptop in gnome settings from 96 to 102 dpi. same on firefox where in about config I had to change layout.css.dpi from -1 to 110. Now I can read decently even if some fonts are a little fuzzy and slim.

SUSE / Novell :: Desktop Icons Too Small?

I was trying out different settings for KDE 4. The setting was for "Desktop Activity Type and I selected "Plain Desktop no Toolbar" When that was applied, suddenly the desktop icons got very small and I tried to set them larger again but that did not work, the settings for Desktop icons from "Configure Desktop" were only applied in the Plasma Dashboard, not the desktop itself

SUSE :: Console Screen Font Very Small In Open 11.3

Aug 15, 2010

What's happening to the console screen resolution in version 11.3? I have been using an 80x24 character console screen to run character based software and I want 80x24 to fill the whole screen. To do that, I have chosen "text mode" on the initial dvd boot up screen (F3 before choosing install). Choosing a higher resolution installation produces gui installation screens and results in console screens with progressively higher resolution, smaller type and more characters/line and lines/page, as the gui resolution increases. The installation resolution does not seem to affect the xwindows resolution. However, when I installed ver 11.3 using the text mode installation, the console screens alt-F1 to alt-F6 had very small text and the 80x24 text area fit in a small rectangle in the upper left corner of the screen. How can I fix this? My system is an Asus M4A785-M motherboard with a 2.8 ghz quad core athlon II, using the onboard ATI Radeon HD 4200 GPU.

SUSE / Novell :: Font Quality - Too Much Pixelized Look

Sep 13, 2010

Currently I use SLED 11 (32bit) on my laptop. I'm getting used to work with it but what really annoys me is the display and/or font quality in general! The resolution quality compared to Windows quality standard is just a nightmare. I tried already to install several fonts, f. e. Tahoma etc., and changed dpi, rendering (LCD) within "Appearance Preferences" but the fonts still look much too pixelized. So far I couldn't find a way to get a display quality similar to Windows look. Did anybody of you guys find a way to improve standard SLED 11 font quality especially reducing this kinda pixelized look?

SUSE / Novell :: Unable To Get PDF In Firefox In OpenSUSE

Jan 6, 2010

I've had this issue since OpenSUSE 10.5 and Firefox 2.x. Now I'm on OpenSUSE 11.2 and Firefox 3.5.6. Here's the issue: I log into various sites to get my bank statements, utility bills, etc. They are all in PDF, and they open up acrobat reader and from there I save the bill as a permanent record. The first one I open opens fine. Subsequent sessions with subsequent providers (banks, whatever) opens up a new window as if to show me the PDF, but no PDF is there. Status on the window shows "done." No error messages. I have to shut firefox down, restart, log in again, and then it downloads fine. It's getting annoying.

SUSE / Novell :: Removing Retarded Firefox Update

Sep 8, 2010

for the past 2 month or so i've been constantly annoyed by my yast automatic updater to install a regress patch to send firefox back to 3.5.11...which i've been ignoring for a long time because to be honest i'm convinced that those suse developers have pretty much lost the plot recently , instead i've sticked to the latest stable releases of firefox that is 3.6.8 (btw today 3.6.9 has been released and i'm about to upgrade firefox to that...today)

anyways , my suspecion has been confirmed when another update poped up that said it's gonna update firefox from 3.5.11 to 3.6.8 (which is what i have now)so the question: HOW does the updater track which updates have been installed and which haven't? and how can i remove all or ignore firefox related updates ?
