i already installed mailscanner and other component as well as. the problem is when i log to mailwatch gui, mailscanner and postfix status show no.--it's should be show yes ..
how to overcome that or enable that problem?

I am re setting up a server of mine running red hat enterprise Linux server 6 and I had all of this working befor but for some reason I had troubles getting sasl to work and now when I login my smtp server I get an error stating that my username or password is incorrect though I am sure I am entering both correctly. Would anyone know what could be happening? I have been spending days on the web looking for the solution and only went from sasl not working when started as a service to this. For some reason I can't use Pam with saslauthd and had to use shadow instead of which from what I hear I get to use better methods of secure authentication with smtp
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to Linux and I am trying to set up a mail server using postfix. I have done all the configurations(hopefully correct) and all the test seems to work except 2 things.
1) Postfix is running but when I try to restart the service it always fails. I checked the /var/log folder and there are no error messages.
2) When I try sending e-mails using outlook, outlook fails to connect to my server.
I am wondering if I have done the configurations properly. I am a little confused in regards to hostname and domain name. When I do a hostname on the terminal I see the hostname that I gave my server. When I do the domainname command however, domain is none. Is it necessary to have a domain to configure postfix? I have myhostname = my.hostname.com what should my domainname = to if there is none. If I do require a domain name how to I create one? I need to be able to access e-mail from external clients.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am setting up Fedora-13 with "389 directory server" for authentication. I had performed the following steps.
1. Install FD-13.
2. Yum install 389-ds.
3. Run script to configure.
4. Start 389-condole and create few group and user for testing.
I can see these user with "ldapsearch" and with "phpldapadmin". It looks my server is responding. However, I am unable to see any user name with "getent passwd". also "ssh server_user@server" is not able to login. Whereas "getent passwd" shows local user and "ssh local_user@server" is able to login. Also note that I am not using ssl, so want to avoid ssl.
how the whole mail server thing works, and what software handles what job. From my understanding POP3 and IMAP are protocols to pull email from a mail server, and SMTP is used to push email to a server. There are many programs that I've seen involved with creating a mail server, but I'm trying to use just Postfix. Postfix can send and receive email right?
My server runs in my basement and runs Ubuntu Server 10.10. It uses Cherokee as its web server, and it runs several other servers as well (SSH, FTP, Git, etc). My goal is to set up a mail server so that websites I run such as a Redmine or a web forum can send emails to people (e.g. an activation email for a user registering on a forum).
Anyway, I set up postfix, and now my server can receive email. I've been able to send an email from my Gmail address to drew@minipenguin.com (my server), and it works. However, if I try to send email from drew@minipenguin.com to my Gmail, it never goes through. I don't care about receiving email, as my only goal is to be able to send it.
I have a very peculiar issue with Postfix. lets say we have three users as user a ,user b ,user c . user a reports to user b ,user b reports to user c .Now if user a sends an email to user x then a policy is defined such that all his his email will be sent to user b not to user x. Before I configured my web stack, I was about to install some security packages, Tiger and Samhain, but these packages wanted to install sendmail so that they can send outgoing notifications. From the reading I've been doing, I believe I want postfix instead of sendmail. It is my (perhaps mistaken) belief that installing postfix first will prevent them from installing this sendmail I do not want.
I want to install postfix with the following goals in mind:
* let PHP scripts send mail using the mail function.
* various system notification functions (cron, etc.) will be able to send their emails
* emails destined for root@localhost will be redirected to admin@mydomain.com
* let tiger and/or samhain send their notification emails
* NO INCOMING OR LOCAL MAIL IS PERMITTED. Because mail for my domain is handled by google apps, nobody will be checking mail on this server. Also, this server has very limited disk space. It is therefore very important that we don't have mail accumulating in boxes that will never be checked.
* no unnecessary ports, services, or cron jobs are running.
I've been reading a variety of pages that describe postfix setup on Ubuntu but these articles are imprecise, incomplete, and describe installation of things I don't want like POP/IMAP/etc.
There's also one final wrinkle. I will be setting up postfix to send via Amazon SES.
I set-up his mail server for him with Postfix but what he wants I have no idea how to do.
Essentially he wants it so that the mail gateway IP corresponds with the dedicated IP of the domain and I have no idea how to accomplish this.
I found some documentation on the web saying that the fix for this was to run multiple instances of Postfix which I tried doing but each time I try to start the second instance I get the error that postfix is already running.
There has to be an elegant way to make this happen, I really hate to tell a client something can't be done even though the concept is a bit pointless, IMHO. I am hoping I can get some feedback here on if this can be done and if it can the easiest way for me to accomplish doing it.

There is a particular java app called LanguageTool which we need to host on our centos server. Other applications are supposed to send an http request to this machine; this machine should pass this data (received over the http request) to the java application concerned, obtain the output from the app; and then send this response back to the requesting client...
We need to set this app as a service on startup. The centos machine might restarted from time to time; so we expect this service should startup automatically. What can I do to get this done?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have setup up an Opensuse as a simple we/application server.It handles requests for various things and will need to send out email on occasion for things like password reset requests, information / warnings etc. etc.This is a standard OPenSuse 11.x install with defaults so it comes with Postfix as the mta.I do not want a mail server I just want to send out via my clients mail server which is hosted exchange rackspace, which simply requires SMTP auth to do so.What would be the proper way to do this so ALL e-mail send from this machine, regardless of account like WWWRun or when logged in and sending from the command line has the same sender all the time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen installing Samba and Webmin I use the application "system-config-services" or (if it is easier to find for you that way) menu->Administration->Service management. In this application I can start the services I need (nmb, smb, webmin), but the enable/disable at startup setting is greyed out... Even when I start the application as root it still gives me no possibility to configure the services to start up on boot. This should be possible. It works this way in Fedora 13 and Fedora 14, so why not in Fedora 15?
Before reporting a bug, I would like to ask if other users here have the same problem (and -if possible- a solution)... In the mean tim I guess it is back to the old way of configurating services - sigh..

I have an Ubuntu Server, a dyndns account and an account with [URL]. My DynDns stuff is all working just great - novo.dyndns.tv is the address. Now I need a domain which I have already bought, to be linked to that machine at [URL] I signed up with freedns.afraid.org and now I am a bit confused at what records to add where. I added a domain - [URL] then setup a webforward as follows: redirect from [URL] and redirect from[URL] to [URL] , however if you go and visit:[URL] you will see my problem! It takes you back to [URL] server and says there is not a webforward setup for [URL]This tells us that the nameservers are all setup fine - and its something in my freedns config which is failing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to setup postfix to act as a relay for the outgoing mails of a couple of servers each serving it's own domain.The mails we are talking about are standard administrative emails like user registration, password reset request. The volume of those mails will naturally grow as the site grows. Which for me poses the problem that depending on the growth of the site you will sooner or later hit the quotas imposed by (my otherwise preferred) providers like GMail or smtp.com.
So what I need is a mail relay that will only accept mails from authenticated clients from hosts in its access list and relay their mail without restrictions. Is that possible with postfix? What has to be changed in the config and what are the pitfalls?

We are running MailScanner 4.83.4-1 on a CentOS 5.6 64-bit distribution. The status of MailScanner was checked hourly via the check_mailscanner script, and normally the e-mailed result was:

The server in question sits outside the company firewall, and was configured to deliver e-mail messages directly to their intended recipients. Our company recently changed its policy concerning external e-mail servers to require them to send their e-mails to their destinations via an e-mail gateway server. Consequently, the server was reconfigured to relay its messages to the gateway, and is no longer delivering messages directly to their recipients.
When the change was made, I noticed the check_mailscanner script was sending a new message which read as follows:

I have tried starting and restarting the MailScanner software via the /etc/init.d/MailScanner script. The output of the script seems to indicate that MailScanner starts, but a subsequent check for the application via the ps -ef |grep MailScanner command shows the command is not running.

i have a postfix mail server in my office and mailscanner. recently i changed the password of mailscanner's admin login 'mailwatch' and now i m unable to get login in postfixmail scanner. even i changed the password of mailwatch user from mysql database, bt it does not work. get login into mailscanner to chk the mails of all users.
