Nov 30, 2010I just took a class on sql, unfortunately, it was Windows-centric, which means I have to figure out how to do stuff in Redhat by myself. By installing mysql via yum and then running pirut, I find there is an interface type program called MySQL-python-1.2.1-1.x86_64 so I installed it but I'll be danged if I can find any information on how to actually run the thing. What is the command to start MySQL-python-1.2.1-1.x86_64?

Feb 22, 2011I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.
Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.
Howver, just been trying to again to fix the problems with downgrading mysql and get:-
Error: Package: mysql-server-5.1.55-1.fc14.i686 (@updates)
Requires: mysql(x86-32) = 5.1.55-1.fc14

Jun 7, 2011I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

i didnt find the mysql.sock file in the location /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. i cannot find the portal-ext.properties file also to make intial settings.

Jul 28, 2009I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:

The same init script works fine in Ubuntu.

Feb 26, 2011When I do...# iptables -L...I see rules in my INPUT and OUTPUT chains that look scary:ACCEPT all -- anywhere anywhere...but these rules only apply to the loopback interface. I tested it and the server cannot be reached on open ports from the outside world. How can I make iptables show the interfaces that the rules apply to?Otherwise, every time I do iptables -L it will scare the crap out of me.
