OpenSUSE :: Find All The Build-deps Or What They Are For That Matter To Build Boxee

Feb 20, 2010

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:

1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.

2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.

What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

Slackware :: Install The I386 Build On One Partition And The 64-bit Build On Another

Sep 16, 2010

Trying to install SW 13.1 (on DVD) on the following system: M/B Intel: DX38BT Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Socket 775 Memory Corsair Dual Channel 8192MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (4x2048MB) Graphics Diamond Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - Viper, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 P/S Ultra 1000W

My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}

Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels

Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

Fedora X86/64bit :: Yum/yumex Does Not Honour Architecture

Oct 25, 2009

I have configured for yumex that I want to exclude all *.i386 updates. Still "yum downgrade <anything>" can download and install i386 packages. One other thing which is not purely x86_64 issue, but yum/yumex issue anyway. I noticed that yum updates daemon (yum-updatesd) does not work any more, or at least for x86_64, so I enabled yum_cron with catastrophic consequences. It automatically updated my amarok 1.4 to amarok 2.* although I have an exclude in Yumex for amarok! Here I go again!! I am not sure if I remember how to make 1.4 functional again...

Ran across this program a month or so ago and really like it. Much less bloated that AC but does a nice job in the 2d world for a basic program. The package installer gives me a wrong architecture message (see attached). I think I had to change that to get adobe AIR installed and wonder if its possible to do the same here.

Hardware :: Using Triple-channel Memory Architecture?

Mar 7, 2011

I am wondering just how the triple channel memory architecture, like found in various socket 1366 CPUs, including i7, works. For maximum speed in close locality accesses, in theory it would need to interleave at the memory access width (64 bit?).But interleaving at a multiple of 3 is what looks odd. A multiple of 2 or 4 would be trivial, by just using the lowest 1 or 2 bits (of the access word address), to select with part of the interleave stride. But a multiple of 3 would mean doing an arithmetic division by 3 and using the modulus, for each memory cycle. Can it really do that, that fast?

Or is something else going on where it approaches having a perfect interleave, but not quite, in order to keep the operation speed at maximum (e.g. some simpler kind of arithmetic that can keep up with a slightly slower memory speed that results from a less than perfect interleave)?

Also, I was reading somewhere where someone suggested that if you put 2 DIMMs in one channel, and 1 DIMM each in the other two channels (where all DIMMS are the same size), it will operate in triple channel mode for 3/4 of the memory address space, and in single channel mode for the remaining 1/4 of memory. Is it designed to do that? Is there an advantage doing that instead of putting 2 DIMMs in the 1st channel and 2 DIMMs in the 2nd channel, and leaving the 3rd channel empty (e.g. getting only double-channel speed, but doing so for all of memory)?

IWSTM that if I'm running multiple threads or hyperthreads, these may be accessing memory at sufficiently widely arranged locations (depending on virtual memory page placement) that even if there is no interleave at all, there can be some improvement.
