Feb 13, 2010I have Fedora 11 running on Microsoft virtual PC. When I start Fedora it opens in full screen mode. How do I exit full screen so that I can pause or turn off Fedora.

Whenever I go full screen with any kind of video in Firefox I get the "press ESC to exit full-screen mode" warning that plagues my screen for several seconds.

Jan 25, 2011This obnoxious bar has just appeared in Smplayer at the top of the screen. It stays there even when I go full screen. Now full screen isn't full screen and there are black edges on both sides of the screen. I have not be able to figure out how to hide it. I do not need or want this onscreen display. How can I configure Smplayer to make this go away? How can I get my 16:9 full screen aspect ratio back? I have done nothing to mplayer or smplayer as far as editing any or changing any configuration files. I tried several videos and it displays on all of them. It was not there last time I used Smplayer.

Oct 22, 2010This problem has occurred over a few years and with a number of Gnome distributions, including Ubuntu and Fedora, and it just won't go away. I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 / Gnome. Almost immediately, windows that opened would grey out and temporarily freeze. The mouse can still move, most of the time. The greying of windows can happen frequently or not a all for a while. The freezing can last a few seconds or many. This inconsistency makes it difficult for me to figure out what is triggering this problem. I don't know if it is hardware related, either.

Sep 7, 2009I've had this happen so often in the past, that I'm ready to ditch firefox altogether. I'm running F10 on a 3Ghz Intel dual core processor with a 500gb hdd. l prefer that my browser start up with a full screen when I launch it and firefox has been doing this just fine for the past 8 months. When I fired up firefox (version 3.0.13) this morning, it started up using only half the screen. As I've mentioned this has happened to me in the past and I've never been able to figure out how to get FF back to starting with a full screen. Does anyone know how to make it default back to opening in full screen mode? I've attached an image of how FF is opening now.

Jan 20, 2010I installed fedora 12 on my system but had issues with the ATI card I had at the time which I could not solve. So, I bought a Geforce 6200 hoping that would help, but I am still getting issues. Firstly, I cannot play full screen Flash. I know this has been asked before but all of the solutions I have tried have failed. Also, I would like to know if it is possible to play AVI files, as I d/l a few.
If I cannot get these two issues sorted it will be back to the dreaded Mic...... As I said, I am a complete novice here, I tried to enable desktop effects, and a message came up saying I only had 2D support, so I am guessing a driver problem? I have not installed any new drivers, but did try to get from nvidia, that I could not get to install - it was a .run file.
I have just followed the four point installation guide that I found on here, and now when the PC boots I have a slow moving blue bar across the the bottom of the screen with 'Fedora 12' next to it, and the graphics are now totally shot, looking like something from windows 3.1!

Feb 11, 2010I just rebuilt my fedora box and I'm having some problems getting dual monitors to work. First, I can't reposition my secondary monitor to be on the left. It thinks it's on the right. I can use xrandr to fix this, but that is annoying. Is there no way to do this in the display properties? Second, maximizing a window makes it go across all screens. I unchecked this option in the display properties.I also unchecked the one for letting windows be in multiple monitors at once, but this still happens.

I have most of my movies in .avi/Divx. when I was using Ubuntu the default movie player would play my vids but when I went full screen the movie would just disappear and would have to shut it down and restart it. Nov 9, 2009What happens is that the sound will disappear, either without any apparent reason, otherwise when I move the mouse, or pause vlc, or open up another application, in most cases FF. I have also seen the mouse flash while vlc is in fullscreen, and immediately afterward the sound is gone. When the sound disappears, the gnome-volume-control will disappear and reappear on the top taskbar. Also there will be no device under the hardware and input tab of the sound preferences when the sound disappears.
Killing and restarting the pulseaudio daemon from the cli will return the appropriate choices under sound preferences hardware/input tabs, as well as the audio. This could happen a couple of times in the period of an hour. Usually restarting vlc will solve the problem, or restarting the pulseaudio daemon. Another thing I have noticed is that I will occassionally have to kill the vlc process through the system monitor or cli, as closing vlc will not remove it from the taskbar. I have tried the fix shown here, to no avail. Using kernel 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.x86_64 on a hp dv3-2154ca.

Fedora :: Unable To Boot - Emblem In The Centre Of Screen Appears And Starts To Turn From White To Dark Blue
Dec 7, 2010I am unable to boot my laptop in the usual way. The fedora emblem in the centre of the screen appears and starts to turn from white to dark blue in the usual way. When it is almost complete it stops.
In order to make the machine boot i hit escape and a message says leaving interactive startup mode. At this point the machine continues to start up.
When i do manage to get it to boot i get the following message repeated many times:
I should also add... The laptop will not close down, once i click switch off the screen turns blue and displays the fedora emblem in the centre. At the top right text says "Shutting Down" but at this point the system hangs.

Aug 27, 2011I recently upgraded my graphics card from a Geforce 7600GS to a Gefore 560Ti. And while most things are normal, during boot up my screen isn't "full screen" until X is started, after which everything else is fine. Essentially, all display, the grub menu, the splash screen, console text, etc, is within a box on the screen, with 2" on the left and right, and 1" top and bottom of empty blackness.
From what I understand, this is because the framebuffer is using the wrong resolution, but the maximum resolution that hwinfo --framebuffer returns is 1280x1024 (which I am already using "0x031a".) (My monitors is natively 1920x1080) Is it possible to do something about this? If not increase resolution than at least stretch the screen to full screen?

Jul 18, 2010OpenSuse 11.3 with nVidia drivers.I have the screen working fine though it only runs in 1600x1200@75 using the nVidia driver (GTX260 card).When I play a game in full screen mode all seems OK but when I exit the game then I just get the mouse pointer on a black screen.There must be something present since the cursor changes as I move it, normal pointer -> hand over a link etc. It's just that black on black isn't very readable.
