View 9 RepliesMy webcam LED turns on whenever my Asus P50IJ laptop wakes up from sleep or suspend, and subsequently will not turn off. I can't tell if my webcam is actually activated or not, and furthermore the light beams right into my eyes and makes my lappy not so usable.
If someone knows why this might be happening or could possibly help me fix it that would be very much appreciated. I'm really trying hard to stick with Linux, but little things like this are making it difficult. I'm kind of a noob, but I'm trying so please be nice.
how to find out what driver my webcam is using and where its located the webcam it self works but goes from normal to dark after a minute of use and would like to fix it

View 8 Replies View RelatedI installed Scientific Linux just for fun, but I find the repositories much too lacking. So, order to tackel that problem, I decided to try to install the fedora-release-14 package. Truns out, sl-release is blocking my success because sl-release obsoletes fedora-release. Then I tried the Rawhide one and it is still obsoleted. How do I add this Fedora Base repositories to Scientific Linux?

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo last night suddenly my computer started running really slow. Like it would take a couple of minutes for a window to open. I tried to start System Monitor to see what was going on, but couldn't get it to launch. At first I thought something had grabbed the CPU, but eventually I discovered that something was writing a massive amount to the hard disk. The intensive disk activity continued for about 20 minutes as I watched nervously. Just as the disk activity suddenly stopped ABRT popped up a message that disappeared to fast to read fully, but it said something about a file that was too large.
This morning I discovered that about 9 GB of my hard disk had been used up. Using "find -size +1G" I found an 8.6 GB file in /var/spool/abrt /ccpp-1291706342-2244/ called "coredump."I don't know what a coredump is or how to look inside the file to see what might have caused its creation. But I do know that ABRT has not said a word about the incident.
came to linux around 3 months ago. not up to speed by any means but want to stick with and get out of the windows trap. i used to plug in my external drives and they would be recognized but now they are not and I get HALD is not turned on please turn on

View 2 Replies View RelatedOn Fedora 11 x86_64 the Software Update utility is annoying beyond words. I am trying to turn it off, but cannot do so. I have gone to System > Preferences > Software Updates and set it to Check for UpdatesNeverAutomatically InstallNothingCheck for Major Upgrades NeverYet it continues to pop up an icon in the Gnome panel when new updatesare available. If I use the utility to install updates it usually fails because of bugs causing it to fail on "cleaning up." I prefer to check for updates with Yumex when I have time. Although Yumex works reliably, after installing all updates the icon in the Gnome panel remains until after I reboot.I want that icon never to appear in my Gnome panel. However, while there are options in Preferences (which don't work), there is no option "remove from panel." How can I get rid of it permanently?

My computer which uses F15, a Lenovo B560 laptop, have a BCM4313 and the apparent reason is that after that I installed the broadcom-wl and run "su -c 'modprobe wl'" so did I get the response "FATAL: Driver not found". However, the earlier non-existing wireless button in the network manager appeard after the installation, id est the broadcom-wl must have been in plase.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOne thing I have had to do to launch Maya every time is disable SELinux.
echo 0 >/selinux/enforce
I type that each time before I launch maya. If I don't it wont start.
Not sure why. Essentially it makes it so I need to be su to run maya.
If I was setting up the workstation to be used by others as well how would I disable SELinux just for starting Maya but nothing else? Or how to do I tell SELinux maya is ok for regular users to run?
I used to have it set up where fedora remembered startup programs, I turned the feature off, and it continues to remember everything?

How can I turn this of? Its not the PC speaker, its just the normal audio doing some weirdo predefined fedora error sound (which drives me crazy).
