I haven't the cds, and this server doesn't have access to the internet, I tried to look around the internet for packages for this red hat version but they haven't the full packages with all the dependencies. Is there any site that I can get the packages?

Can I use one or more of the packages to get the old mechanism back? I tried to find some information about yum-rhn-plugin but I was unable to find a way to use the old up2date-applet.
I'm trying to up2date an RHEL4 ES (i386/i686, 32-bit) system. It always fails with:

The thing is, when I look in the package lists, that precise version of nagios (nagios-0-2.12-9.el4.i386.hdr) is out-of-date. The version actually in the repositories (I checked several mirrors) is nagios-0-2.12-10.el4.i386.hdr.
I tried clearing the up2date/yum caches - they just rebuilt and came back to the same error.
What can I check to see what may be outdated, or otherwise reconcile this mismatch in some dependency as compared to the actual package version available?
This is preventing me from up2date'ing any package at all on the server, even those with no relation whatsoever to nagios.
I've read the how-tos (thank you oldcpu!) and wikis about how xorg.conf take precedence over the section configuration files in etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/, if it exist. I also understand that the xorg.conf can be partial. If it is missing some sections, these will be taken from the corresponding xorg.conf.d section config file. Currently I'm using a xorg.conf generated by nvidia-settings in one of my home machines, due to a dual-monitor setup. After generating xorg.conf, the device sections are:

I found in my xorg.0.log the the xorg ATI driver is failing ALL options.

I am trying to use the 'autoconf' command and I keep getting an error message saying I need to have xorg-macros 1.3 or later. I have downloaded both 1.4 and 1.6.0 and tried to install them. Apparently all to no avail, because when I run the autoconf script it comes back as saying I only have 1.2.2 installed. Where do I start looking to figure out what I am screwing up?When I run the configure script in the util-macros-1.6.0 it seems to run right. Then I run make and it says "nothing to do for 'all'". Then I run 'make install' and it seems to run that but apparently it isn't getting installed.

I am new to Slackware/Linux and completed the install (Slackware 13 64-bit x86_64).Everything is running correctly.During the install I was asked if I wanted to install X-Windows and I declined.Now I want to install it.I downloaded xorg-server-1.6.3-x86_64-1.txz and installed it using slackpkg.It seemed to me to install very quickly. I see it in the list of installed packages now.What are the steps install a fresh X-Windows on Slackware if I did not pick it during install?

I plan to do a minimal install and then install xorg and fluxbox. I'm not familiar with the way fedora names it's packages. what packages I need to install to get a working xorg. This is just a regular install on a home system with no special needs.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just got a set of updates from Xorg11 (Index of /repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.1/i586) repository and now, my X doesn't come up. During update, zypper complained about xorg-x11-libxcb and it didn't get updated. On further investigation I noticed that libxcb-xlib.so.0.0.0 is missing in the new package (version 7.4-4.2. The one currently installed in 7.4-1.24).

Anyone experience with multiseat configuration in combination with openSUSE 11.2. Looking for a howto since we don't use xorg.conf to configure X and everything is autodetected by HAL.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading kernel, system (AMD 780G)refuses to start in graphic mode. Computer services running fine, but there's nothing or some trash on screen when X started. And no way how to get out except restarting or shutting down from remote computer.
Reinstalling, unistalling ATI driver doesn't help. Also manipulations with xorg.conf (install, safe etc previous file versions)doesn't help.
Sax2 detects videocard correctly, but result is same regardless which resolution@Hz is specified.

I have the nVidia driver on my desktop kernel set-up but have to change /etc/X11/xorg.conf from nVidia to nv to get a X to run in Xen. Whilst this works, is there a way to tell Xen at boot time to use nv rather than nVidia so I don't have to edit xorg.conf each time?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded the memory in one of my computers running Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 to 4GB of RAM from 2GB.It's a Biostar TA690G AM2, with an Athlon X2 BE-2400 in it. It supposedly supports up to 4GB of RAM when done as 4 1GB sticks, at least according to the original manual that came with it. Upon start up, I no longer get my login screen, it appears to crash when it gets to the part where it starts up Xorg.
At first I figured the memory might not be happy with the computer so I ran Memtest86, every thing seems fine there. So I try the recovery boot to the root prompt with networking. Everything seems to work fine there, at least as far as a root prompt with no gui goes.. However, if I try startx here, it crashes again.
Ok, so I then try an Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 boot CD. I get the Try/Install buttons in the little Xorg intro gui running. It's getting my hopes up now. However upon clicking "Try Ubuntu" it thinks for a second or two and then locks up, with the busy mouse cursor icon still spinning. I don't have windows installed on this computer, so I can't really say that it works fine in windows.
Is there some weird BIOS setting or xorg.conf setting that needs to be enabled so that it doesn't croak? The Bios recognizes the memory, Memtest86 recognizes the memory, and Linux recognizes the memory (at least until xorg starts). If I pull one of the sticks out, it will once again run, but then it's in single channel mode, and I'm missing out on 1GB of RAM goodness.
I am running slackware 13.37. I installed the newest NVIDIA drivers 270.41.19 and now impossible to load Xorg.

How I installed the new nvidia drivers:
- removepkg xf86-video-nouveau
- installed xf86-video-nouveau-blacklist-noarch-1.txz for blacklist the nv drivers
- run script nvidia
- run nvidia-xconfig
- reboot
The startx and black screen with errors messages mentioned above.
I run glxinfo | grep render and i get " Error: Unable to open display". Logical since no Xorg
I run dmesg | grep nvidia and I get all the required fields:
- NVIDIA taint kernels
- power state
- enabling device
- PCI INT A
- Setting latency
I have to manually copy the errors messages since my PC is not working.
When I run "find /usr/lib -name *.270.* " I do get the module Same thing when I run "find /lib -name nvidia.ko". I see the nvidia.ko module.
I recently installed debian on my ibook G4, but when I start up the computer, it doesn't boot into Xorg. When I tried to start Xorg, it says that it is not installed. How would I install it, and how would I start it? When I do the apt-get install xorg, it doesn't work. Right now I'm running ubuntu on it, but I really want just plain debian, as I really dont need all of the bells and whistles that Ubuntu offers. I just need something to do schoolwork on (I'm a highschool sophmore), and I don't want to use OS X for that as I like linux better (specifically debian and ubuntu).

Lenny have too old packagges for me. All versions of squeeze (downloaded or upgrade from lenny) is broken. I can't run xorg. For about 2 weeks i'm serching for answer and i only found that this is xserver-xorg-conf. That's true this is the package that is broken, but cannot install this.
When i upgade system the synaptic package manager write me one package is broken (xserver-xorg-conf), so i delete it and install one more time. This same problem. So i downloaded and i have this same problem. When i restart system i cannot run xserver and gnome.
I just recently got a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and have installed Debian on it. When I installed it, I did not install the 'Graphical desktop' packages...only the 'Standard system utilities'Everything has been fine, however when I installed Xorg (aptitude install xorg) and restarted my computer, my screen goes blank at bootup. I can see the grub menu, as well as the beginning bootup process, up until udev begins to load. I have a feeling it has something to do with KMS now being loaded but am not sure.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThere was an xorg update that I did today (June 8) and when try to boot into runlevel 3, it stops when it gets to starting up sntp. I also saw that it said DHCP client not running. When I try again (push the power button) and allow it to do what it wants, everything seems to start up just fine. I'm asking about this because I need to re-install my NVIDIA graphics card driver. For the boot options, I've tried clearing the text (I don't remember what they are at the moment) and typing:

but still get stuck at the same spot. I've also tried it without clearing the text but still it gets stuck.
How can I get to runlevel 3 in order to re-install my graphics card driver? I cannot run my 3D software without it. Can I switch to runlevel 3 from the usual (normal GUI) screen? I can't remember the command. I'm running SuSE 11.4.

I've just done a fresh install of Lubuntu 10.10 on an older Sony Vaio laptop. Having learned the hard way about editing xorg files, I wanted to create a backup of the xorg.conf file so that I dont have to do another install when I screw everything up. In a terminal, I typed

my laptop is running Slackware64 13.0. Today I tried to update to X.org 7.5 (version 1.7.1) from version 1.6.3 shipped with Slackware. I downloaded the relevant source tarballs from www.x.org and compiled them with no errors. The compiled packages are:

My laptop has an NVIDIA graphics card and I'm using the proprietary driver from NVIDIA. Thus I reinstalled the driver after the update and tried to launch X.org with "startx". After a short while the NVIDIA logo appears for some hundred milliseconds and disappears then. But now the screen is blank and it is not possible to switch to another VT via Ctrl+Alt+Fx. But it is possible to login from another computer and restart everything, so that I conclude that the system does not hang.
It is even possible to do work normally with the laptop from remote. If I try to kill the X-server, it ignores SIGTERM and has to be terminated by SIGKILL. But the laptop's screen stays black and empty and does not allow to switch to another VT (chvt terminates with "interrupted system call."). dmesg does not give any errors.
