I'm sure there's a really simple route if someone can just start me off.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems I had no say in the matter. The installer automatically did text mode and it starts up in text mode now. I'm very new to Fedora, though I had Ubuntu installed recently but removed it because Fedora seemed a little more interesting to me. I'm on an HP Pavilion dv2807nr laptop if that helps.

How to do with it in text mode ?
I tried installing Fedora 11 on my i386 using the 6 CD set that I downloaded. Since my system has only 128M of RAM, the text install mode was used. The 1st CD installation seemed to work OK. After 181 out of 181 packages were installed, the system rebooted and did not ask for me to insert the other CDs. now when my system comes up, it is always in text mode.
Q. Is there a command I can use to have the remaining CD's installed so I can install the graphics system?

I'm running Fedora 11 64bit on an Acer Aspire 3935, dual boot with Windows Vista. I installed three days ago and the system is supposedly fully updated. While doing some routine configuring I noticed that I am unable to access the Preference window of File Management.
I want to check the box for 'always open in browser windows', but therefore I need the Preference window. When I try to access through System > Preferences > File Management, it says starting for a few seconds and then nothing. When I try to access through Computer > Edit > Preferences, the window crashes and disappears. I suppose there are other ways to change that setting, but in any case I'd like to get the general problem solved, not only the setting changed.
Just in the past few days, after I installed a recent spate of updates, my Thunderbird stopped opening up URLs from within an email into a browser window.I'm using F12 and just updated to the latest Thunderbird 3.0.4 on the 9th. But things didn't get weird just then. Perhaps it was the update to Firefox on the 16th when I got 3.5.6 that did it. Firefox still opens up a window from my RSS feed reader (Liferea) just fine but Thunderbird can't open diddly unless I manually copy the link location and paste it into the browser window.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOn some computers I can not use graphical installation interface of Fedora 9. So I use text mode.I would like to have a very small installation with very few installed packages, so at package selection I uncheck everything. In text mode installation there is no option to customize installed packages down to package names. I can only check main themes. So I uncheck everything and installation starts. This method results over 400 packages to bo installed... This is too much with many unnecessary packages. If I use graphical interface and uncheck every package name at custom package selection then about 150 packages will be installed. Is there any good way to use textmode installation and don't install more than 400 packages?

View 13 Replies View RelatedEverytime I open Konqueror, it opens in "Embedded Text Editor" mode . So if I open it then click on a bookmark, it opens in edit mode. I can select View->View Mode->khtml and then the page displays properly. If I click on a link from that page, it displays properly. If I open a new tab, it is back to edit mode. If I open konqueror from konsole, it has the same behavior. I have removed all files under ~/.kde that mention konqueror, kong_* or kfmclient.
I checked the menu entry for Konqueror, and it is "kfmclient openProfile web browsing". I have set the view mode properly, then manually saved the profile in Konqueror. I have checked the system settings file associations, and the konqueror entry has the same application command (kfmclient) as the kde menu entry. Does anyone know how to make the view mode "stick" for Konqueror such that when clicking on html urls or selecting bookmarks causes Konqueror to display properly?

View 1 Replies View Relateduse Fedora 15. I had installed driver for my ATI graphic card, as it was written in Fedora guide, then when I rebooted the system the bars and icons appeared with strange, changed colours (purple, green, etc). I've read that this happened because of the bad drivers, so I tried to fix it. Unfortunatelly because I'm Linux newbie and I'm also very nervous I deleted (using Fedora software manager) everything connectedtalyst from my system. Now when I try to start my computer, grub starts in text mode.My question is:What can I do? Do I have to reinstall my system or maybe someone knows how to fix it?I'm quite scared because now I can't launch not only Fedora but also Windows.(I'm writing from another computer
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup and configure a server entirely with text only run mode 3 on a virtual machine so I can redo my current live server. I'm now trying to set up the firewall of the system using iptables. I've read up on it and came up with the following:
-clear all rules
#iptables -F
-set default policy rules
#iptables --policy INPUT DROP
#iptables --policy FORWARD DROP
[Code]....
Everything above worked for me but just out of interest I looked at my live server which was configured using a GUI. I ran iptables-save and it was pretty much the same but its port open lines read like this:
#iptables -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW --dport 80 -j ACCEPT
so finally my question is do I really need the "-m state --state NEW"? Wouldn't having that drop established connections on those ports? I'm just confused as to what exactly the NEW state is doing and would it make a difference if I didn't include it.
I suspect this is a Gnome 3 problem and not a Fedora problem, but I have no way to separate the two here. I cannot upload an image from my computer to Weebly or to Google Plus, but strangely enough, I can upload one to Picasa. The sequence of actions goes something like this:
1. Open Weebly editing interface, add a picture element, click on the element to edit/add a picture. It then gives you a choice: from your local computer, from the web, etc.
2. Click on 'from local computer' and my computer opens the Open File Dialog Window.I am guessing that is its name, it is the same window you get when opening a file in any other application, like Gedit or LibreOffice.
3. Navigate to the image I want to upload and double click on it or select 'Open'.
4. Nothing happens.
I am able to upload images from my laptop, running Linux Mint 11 with Gnome 2.
It sounds to me like the Open File Window is not passing on the necessary information to the browser. I have no idea why it works in Picasa and not in Google+ or Weebly.
I don't really expect anyone to have a solution just yet, but I wanted to mention it somewhere, and I didn't see any Gnome.org forums. On the other hand, if someone does have a solution, great.
This is by no means a knock on Gnome 3, it is fine with me and I Iike it a lot more than I thought I would.
I installed Fedora 11 on my system (see below) using the i686 DVD. The graphical install worked just fine, and after the system booted back up, the X server was working very well.
There is no boot text. On the other system with Fedora 11, I can see the boot text scroll by in the window and/or a progress bar at the bottom of the monitor during the boot sequence. On this system, the monitor says "No Input", and nothing appears until the login prompt for the X window. I am able to enter the BIOS configuration page and navigate through it without any issues. I can also edit the grub commands before Fedora loads without a problem.
If I boot in text mode, no login prompt appears. If I wait long enough, the monitor enters the power save mode since it is not receiving a signal. I am able to log in to the system with my user name and password, and then start the X server. Once the server starts, the monitor turns back ON and all is well.
From the X window, I use the CTL+ALT+F2 key to enter text mode. The monitor stops responding. If I press the ENTER key a couple of times, then press ALT+F7, I can briefly see the text window with a couple of login prompts before the X window starts responding again.
How can I get the text mode to work? Why is there no input to the monitor when booting?

I have an older PC that was running F11 without any problems. At some point I started updating to F12 through the web and got a a nice black screen that pretty much hosed my OS. (Not a big deal). So I went and downloaded the F12 Live CD which did the same thing.., at some point just after install the screen would be black and reset is the only option.Got the full F12 32-bit DVD and during the installation I get: "X Startup Failed,Falling back to text mode."Finishing the install I get to a nice black log-in prompt so I can log-in as root. From there I cant do much as I am a n00d in Linux to some extent and my network doesn't work
My video card is a Geforce FX 5200 which installed and worked just fine under F11 (without me doing anything but basic install and Ubuntu 9.10)
I can view a php page only with links browser (a text browser) But when i use firefox i got an error "Content encoding error"
