I have a problem with my newly installed ATI driver so my Fedora 12 boots to a frozen graphic mode display.I need to force it to boot to text mode interface to start adjusting my X configuration. What to do?This is a new Fedora 12 installation without any change to GRUB etc.
View 2 Replieswhen I tried to install Nvidia driver for my computer, and when I reboot it, I found i can not log into the x-window mode as the screen display freeze at the point where suppose to be login screen. so use grub go to text mode, try to reinstall the akmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686, but it failed, sames i don't have internet connection to retrieve it. how can I start my network connection under text mode?

Also booting the recovery mode doesn't work
To be able to start the installer I had to use xforcevesa.
Does any one know what this can be and how to solve it?

How can I force this machine to boot up to runlevel 1? I can't see grub menu when first booting it up!
During startup (suse linux old distro) LILO immediately after stratup procedure I can see login for about 1 sec and then Xserver starts. I'm unable to kill it with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace or Ctrl+F1..So the question is: is there any way I can force linux to boot into console mode before it starts xserver? (I'm unable to modify any files since I cannot reach the consol mode)?Is there any shortcut ky I need to press during boot in order to prevent GUI from starting?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter a great deal of pain I have Fedora 15 running in Virtual Box 4.1 on a older Mac Book Pro running Lion. When I boot Fedora 15 I get a black screen. I can get a virtual console by banging on the fn ctrl option f2 keys I can then use 'startx' to get another black screen but clicking around for a bit gives me the gnome fallback windowing. Is there any way I can force the gnome fallback to start up directly on a reboot?

I'm very new to Fedora, though I had Ubuntu installed recently but removed it because Fedora seemed a little more interesting to me. I'm on an HP Pavilion dv2807nr laptop if that helps.

I tried installing Fedora 11 on my i386 using the 6 CD set that I downloaded. Since my system has only 128M of RAM, the text install mode was used. The 1st CD installation seemed to work OK. After 181 out of 181 packages were installed, the system rebooted and did not ask for me to insert the other CDs. now when my system comes up, it is always in text mode.
Q. Is there a command I can use to have the remaining CD's installed so I can install the graphics system?

On some computers I can not use graphical installation interface of Fedora 9. So I use text mode.I would like to have a very small installation with very few installed packages, so at package selection I uncheck everything. In text mode installation there is no option to customize installed packages down to package names. I can only check main themes.So I uncheck everything and installation starts. This method results over 400 packages to bo installed... This is too much with many unnecessary packages.If I use graphical interface and uncheck every package name at custom package selection then about 150 packages will be installed.Is there any good way to use textmode installation and don't install more than 400 packages?
