I am trying to install VM Workstation 7.1 on Fedora 14 with the 2.6.35 kernel. When I run command vmware-modconfig --console --install-all the output is

I have been trying to get a virtual machine manager working for days and I am at my wits end. I have tried googling /usr/src/kernels/2.6.35.6-48.fc14.x86_64/scripts/recordmcount.pl but to no avail.
I've been trying to install Vmware Workstation and keep getting an error about Kernel Headers missing! Although I am pretty sure I have the headers installed for my system. It's looking for the PAE version of my headers which I believe it doesn't exist!

Actually, It uses same kernel but VMWare is not working. I searched about Kernel Headers error when run VMWare on Internet. But I couldn't solve my problem.
when i try and run the latest vmware workstation, i get an error at compiling virtual machine monitor it says: Unable to build kernel module. See log file /tmp/vmware-root/setup-7625.log for details. When i try and go to the folder vmware-root it says i do not have the required permissions. I'm on the latest 11.04, i really need this working.

I have an Intel i7 with CentOS x64 installed, with the intention of using it as the host O/S with VMWare Workstation to run a number of virtual machines. I had this all working until the kernel was updated to 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5, Now I can no longer start any VMs. I have tried reinstalling CentOS, updating it first, then installing VMWare Workstation - no different. I have tried running as root - no different.
Is anyone else aware of this problem? Does anyone else run VMWare on CentOS x64?
i installed linux kernel 2.6.35.2 and now vmware wont run been searching for a few hours for a "fix" found a few files but they don't seem to work here's log from vmware updater.

I'm unable to boot the LFS-6.6 which i've built on a vmware workstation 6.5. i had no trouble in installing all the packages and have managed to run all the test suites successfully w.r.t stable LFS-6.6. while booting i get 'kernel panic' and it says unknown device /dev/sda1 and unknow block (0,0). i've only one primary partition without any swap partition. i've a label assigned to /dev/sda1 and have included it in my fstab file. device.map shows 2 entries:
One for the floppy and the other for my harddisk which is- hd0 /dev/sda. this is for the 2nd time i'm stuck at a point after perfectly installing all the stuff as mentioned in the LFS-6.6 book. i've also noticed on this website the many users have similar type of issue. it would be great if somebody could help me. note: while configuring the linux, i've inbuilt everything required for my system, including support for ramfs and other required filesystems, scsi driver etc.
My host machine is on a intel core 2 duo processor. my virtual scsi hard disk is 3 GB in size and is a ext3 fs. scsi is configured with LSI Logic which is recommended by vmware while adding an hard-disk.
i downloaded Vmware Workstation 7 onto my Windows XP PC and i have tested the os on a HP laptop so the OS is fine, well back to the point i load it up and VMware has a error saying it can not find "C:/Documents/allusers/applicationdata/" something like that ill add a picture so you will see.

I am trying to install the Nvidia Quadro NVS 110 169.04 drivers but am having issues during install. Prior to attempting my install I did install the kernel-devel rpm so it can compile. after running the RPM I get. I am using Exceed (the hummingbird) as an X emulator on my PC, I have X11 forwarding turned on in putty, and I have the DISPLAY environment variable set to the PC IP address + , like so DISPLAY=192.168.100.11:0. When I type startx, however, the Xsession starts at the console. How can I get it to come up on the PC?

glxgears/glxinfo does not work when I SSH in from my PC or from other unix workstations. I need this to work so I can do relatively low-powered graphics work on the workstation remotely.
Other x-windows graphics/programs work fine.

Is there a straight forward way to clone my F13 workstation for the purpose of setting up a new computer quickly? Looking for the best approach to pursue.
i installed Fedora13 a couple of days ago and also activated the encryption of the hdd. But after updating my kernel yesterday, my PC doesn't boot with the new kernel. Choosing the old one still works, so I have still acces to my Files. But how can I use the new kernel? Or how can i completely and forever decrypt my HDD? The whole hdd is encrypted, so the boot and the home stuff isn't accesible without the key. Thats pretty depressing because I felt really intelligent when enabling the encryption
I ran the update through yum (replicated results twice) and whenever I boot to the new kernel it either freezes on the F logo or screen goes black right after f logo. No commands work whatsoever (tried em all). I can boot to an older kernel (2.6.33.3-85.fc13.x86_64). the ones that fail are: 2.6.33.6-147.fc13.x86_64 and 2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64.

I am using Centos 5 with an old kernel. I want to build the latest version for atheros 5K wireless drivers. So i downloaded, and compiled with the ".config" which is already in /boot , and made it ready to run.
However, whenever i try to boot with new kernel, after choosing it from the grub menu, i got the following error. I tried many many .config files but the result was the same.

how to resolve kernel panic error at my remote RHEL5 server side. i know normal solution through cd &n/w boot and enter in rescue mode and using mkinitrd but with out this how to solve.
I'm relatively new to Linux, and have broken many more things than I have fixed.. I guess that's the learning process eh? So here's my problem: I've been experimenting with the mount command, and have mounted my local file system (sda1) to a directory (/mnt/test). I was attempting to mount an external hard drive, and sda1 clearly was not the correct drive (I did eventually discover where the external was located, however sda1 remains tied to that directory). I rebooted my system, and now the Grub command prompt loads. When I type "boot" I'm presented with "Error 8: Kernel must be loaded before booting". I'm assuming this is because I mounted my local file system, but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any ideas how I could remedy this?

I am using FC13 (2.6.33.6-147.2.4.fc13.x86_64) with a ASUS MB/Athlon II X4 CPU for the hardware.Recently my workstation keeps freezing, the power is still on, but the screen goes black,I cannot ping it from other computers on the network, the only thing to do is to press the power switch.
Questions: * I cannot find any messages in the log, no kernel panic message on the screen, I even installed kdump but no kernel dump is created,does it means it can only be a hardware problem ? I have a vendor kernel module for my NIC and my video card could they cause that kind of problem ? * I am logging the CPU temp every minutes and I notice that on a few occasion the CPU is close to 70C when the workstation freeze,is 70C too hot for the CPU, is that what CPU do when they reach a temp to high for them to operates ?
I just received a new workstation from a vendor with Fedora14 supposedly installed in it. The problem is, it does not boot up properly. Although I've contacted them to resolve the problem, I thought I'd ask here to see if I can expedite things. Bottom line, the machine goes through the boot-up process, but only so far. Rather than getting to the log-in screen, I only see a white bar at the bottom of the screen, with "Fedora14" adjacent to it. Is there a way that I can get into the set of configuration menus for setting up the OS? They neglected to include the source disks with the system, if that is what is required.
I updated the latest kernel and other new maintenance tonight and started getting this error at boot...doesn't appear to be hindering anything. My encrypted partitions (luks, ext4) still open and are accessible.

I have just made a clean installation of FC12. The only change I have made for now is to disable the NetworkManager and set a static ip address. My problem is that when I click "shutdown" it doesn't complete the shutdown and hangs due to some kind of kernel error. Then I have to use the power-switch to shut it down. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often (every 3rd shutdown or so).

I have downloaded latest version of sun vm virtual box foe Fedora 13 x64. After installing and creating a VM when I want to start vm I got this error. And when I enter this command on terminal : /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

I have a system here that tends to have kernel panics during an linux installation, though I was able to perform a vista installation on the same hardware. Now I would like to ask what your suggestion for the cause of that problem is. Here a screenshot: [URL]
I suspect the hd to cause it: -it is now over 7 years old -smartctl displays over 16k read error and 0.5mio seek errors (or are such high numbers normalfor that old disks?) -the panic contains the string bad_area in the trace
But it might also be a RAM error, since the trace contains sth about page_fault and vista installs on the very same hdd and does not report any error messages (concerning the hardware, and I heard win doesn't complain about a bad RAM).
You know, I thought I had my Broadcom issues all figured out, I have a simple list of installing the RPM Fusion repos do a yum update and yum install kmod-wl and everything works.However, this time it didn't work. I have tried the two yum suggestions and they don't work I have tried updating the kernel and have installed kernel-devel-'uname -r' (suggested by another site) I have tried installing broadcom-wl and b43-openfwwf which only knocked out the card entirely
I am cross compiling a linux kernel for the mips platform. I have installed the tool chain and everything. When i try to build the kernel i get the following error message.

If i set up the toolchain on a fedora 13 machine with the exact same procedure, the cross compilation works fine. I can't figure out how this can be fixed. I am currently considering downgrading to fedora 13 due to this.
I untared a few libs on the wrong server (that's the when you're supposed to start laughing!) and I corrupted my server. Everytime it boots up, I get the following error:

kernel update on sl6 beta , after new kernel installed started gettingyum error cant find repos elrepo-kernel have looked in /etc/yum.repos.d and no elrepo-kernel file there.yum wont run till I resolve this
I Installed Fedora 14 about 2 weeks ago and was just settling into using it more or les permanantly and had to turn of the power to do some maintenanace. When I rebooted I got the grub> prompt.
