Red Hat / Fedora :: Java Not Working For Red Hat 64bit?
Jul 19, 2011
I have installed the Java rpm for 64 bit. I have tried re installing it and it says its already installed but it doesn't not show up in my plugins on firefox. Then when I run something that requires Java it says java is required. I am very new to linux and I am not sure what to do

I am trying to install the 32-bit version of Java because I regularly use a Java program that needs javaws. I went ahead and followed some instructions, and everything works except the java plugin. Even though I have nspluginwrapper installed (as Flash is working fine), Java does not want to work in Firefox. What do I need to do so that the 32-bit Java plugin will work in Firefox?

Is it possible to have both 32 and 64bit java installed? I am trying to run the java SAP GUI. Im using F12 64bit and have got a working 64bit java. The SAP GUI errors when trying to connect and it looks like it wants 32bit. I found a doc saying to run the following which I have done but still not working.
export PLATIN_JAVA=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_06/jre/bin/java
export PLUGIN_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_6/jre/plugin
export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_6/jre
changing to my location of java. My java setup is as follows but im not sure whats going on.
java -version
java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode)
[ltodd2@UK00855F java]$ alternatives --config java
There is 4 program that provides 'java'.
Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.6.0-openjdk.x86_64/bin/java
2 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java

how to run a java application on a 64 bit Firefox install on Fedora, but I didn't find any simple and direct way to do it. So I'll post this here, hoping that people who search for this problem can easily find this really quick solution.
1-> on the terminal do the usual su -
2-> yum install jre
3.> make a link in /home/your_name/.mozilla/plugins/ folder to the file located at /usr/java/jre1.6.0_23/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so
(just select the file, press ctrl+shift and drag it to the plugins folder)
4-> go to http://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp from firefox and test your install
Piece of cake, but it doesn't show up in search engines that easily when I look for: jre firefox 64 plugin fedora Granted that many tutorials mention the linking method, but most either tell you to install the binary/rpm from the java site or even installing the 32bit version for older fedoras... yum makes it so much easier.

so i installed the livna driver according to leigh123@linux and when i tried to "gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf" as root i got
Quote:

(gedit:5031): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
i was able to oped gedit when i wasnt root, so i changed the permissions of xorg.conf and added the extra
Quote:
ModulePath "/usr/lib64/xorg/modules/drivers"
to the existing Section "Files" then rebooted. when i run livna-config-display as root i get
Quote:
No protocol specified Cannot import GTK. Please try setting DISPLAY and try again
this didn't really make sense to me, so installed gtk+, not sure if that just added to my problems or not...
when i run system-config-display as root i get

The problem when I start my java listener program which is listening on 9000 it cant not establish any connection. I have even add this into the iptables too -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 9000 -j ACCEPT. I have disabled the SELINUX too. What else must I do to make it work any suggestion please?

I've a problem booting on my fc14 64 bit. I install it yesterday and everything was ok. Then I updated it and I installed wireless drivers kmod-wl equivalent to my kernel version that is 2.6.35.6-45. I've a pavilion dv6 with a broadcom ach. for networking. So the next step was installing kmod-nvidia for my nvidia geforce but after rebooting my never allow me to log in! I can se the tipical blue-white progress bar loading nvidia drivers but not else!
my screen freeze itself after the progress bar became white. I would resolve by rescue mode but I've installed fc14 64 b using a usb-pen drive and I find no way to do this from live version.

My wife has Fedora 15 installed on her laptop because she wants to use Gnome-3. I installed Fedora 15 Beta-1 and enabled a few ?repositories? through rpmfusion because she needs Flash and Dropbox for her work. She kept it up to date with the default gui application (?gnome-packagekit?). Somehow, somewhere, something went wrong.
A while back she kept getting errors while trying to update ("another system is already using rpm" or something like that). Also the window theme changed to something resembling windows. And she lost the ability to put a window full screen by dragging it to the top op the screen or tiling it by dragging it to the left or right of the screen.
I managed to "repair" the system by disabling one rpmfusion ?repository? ("rpmfusion future" or something like that) by using the gui. From the terminal I was able to get yum upgrade working again by a yum remove of three packages that were conflicting or pinned. I also managed to restore the correct window theme with the gnome-tweak-tool.
However, I can't find any information on how to re-enable the dragging to fullscreen or tiling. Google is no help it just keeps turning up sites with people talking about the fact that gnome-3 has dragging to fullscreen (or whining about it).

After I reboot, my java process consumes 100% of the CPU then settles down to about 40% CPU and 12% memory, status sleeping (4 core AMD) I've removed the OpenJDK and installed Sun JRE but no difference. by comparison, Firefox with a lot of tabs is at 3% CPU and 5% memory. Is it better if I go to 10.04 LTS, 32 bit?

I run a Minecraft server and it uses Java on a VPS that has Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala amd64. I have Java 1.6 running with no problems, however many people say Java 1.7 makes a major performance increase (I have tested this on my Win 7 64x computer) which would help reduce lag that my players encounter. I downloaded the Linux x64 tar ball from [URL] how to install it (no deb or auto-installer).

I had an Ubuntu Server 32 bit installation and everything was working fine. Now that I installed Ubuntu Server 64bit on a new drive in the same machine, the ethernet card is not working!! This is insane cause when I put the hard disk with the 32bit installation back and booting from it, the ethernet card is working without any problems but in the 64bits installation it is not shown at all using "ifconfig -a"
lspci output:
Quote:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8151 v1.0 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0)
How can I check which module is being loaded in the 32bits installation to try to load it manually in the 64 bits installation?

I have the simple fortran codes as:
Code:
integer :: i1=2455121, i2=2455121
real :: s1=0.19123840, s2=0.20749992
real*8 :: a1, a2
a1=i1+s1; a2=i2+s2
[Code]....
When s1 and s2 are stated with 'real*8', the 64bit and 32bit systems get the same results.
