Apr 20, 2011I have a problem with the suspend button (fn+f5) on my hp pavilion dv2000 laptop. It is working but only after an intervention. So, every I boot up my system the short-cut/button is not functioning. In order to make it work I have to open the Power Management Preferences and close them. I don't even need to change anything there. Now the button will be working just fine until the next restart. It's pretty annoying to visit the Power Management after each restart, isn't it. Any ideas how could I fix this?

Ubuntu Networking :: HP DV2000 Wireless Wont Budge?
Apr 13, 2010I finally decided to make the final move into Ubuntu (from XP) and i seem to be having a problem with my wireless. I remember getting it to work on this same PC under Hardy Heron but now I'm stuck. I installed the OS as a dual boot with XP so i could move files back and forth and such. When i click on the network icon i see "Wireless network - Disconnected" also this laptop does not have a regular LAN adapter. If i do an LSpci i see the device Broadcom bcm4311 listed. I see the network disabled on lshw I followed this guides to try to make thinks work and didnt achieve a thing![URL]... P.S. I have the feeling that the issue is related to a button on the side of the computer that enables/disables the wifi. Under ubuntu said button does not work and the network appears to be disabled in spite of device being listed and drivers being present. any tips? there are no hot keys marked in the keyboard that would enable wifi)

Mar 4, 2011I have a Hp pavillion dv2000 and i installed Ubuntu 10.10 the wireless works really fine and fast until i decided to buy a windows vista and installed it, i didn't know that installing windows would affect other OS already installed, after installing vista I installed Ubuntu 10.10 again and the wireless wont detect anything and it would say on the wireless option 'discinnected' and the wireless led light stays orange instead of blue.How do I fix this problem??

Fedora :: F12 On HP Pavilion Laptop
Mar 21, 2010Atlast after a long time thinking and concerns I made it ... installed F12 on HP Pavilion using a LIVE CD ... I got a AMD turion 64 X2 with a NVIDIA graphics card (7200M this is what it says in VISTA) I am more than satisfied with F12 on my HP ... this is first time I am using Linux on LAPTOP and my previous usage is purely on desktops and have some good touch with F9 and still continuing with it. I have few doubts At present I guess I am using Nouveau drivers for my Nvidia graphics card. But I hear from communities people complaining of HIGH TEMPERATURES as open source drivers for NVIDIA are not good enough (NVIDIA doesnt release much info on them). So should I change my NVIDIA drivers to proprietary one? Any tips or gnome settings on LAPTOPS to best utilize all the resources without burning out things?

I need to be able to ausearch and find if any of the above failed attempts exist. However, upon testing any and all of the above, a failed audit does not appear in the /var/log/audit/audit.log file. Supposedly, the nispom.rules file that comes with Red Hat is designed to accomplish this requirement.
The nispom.rules file was copied from /usr/share/doc/audit-1.5.5/nispom.rules to /etc/audit/audit.rules and has NOT been modified.
Our audit version is: audit-1.5.5-7.el5. We verified that the audit.rules files is being read by placing a syntax error in the file. An error message was returned which confirms that the file is being read.

After a reboot it all loaded and worked fine, just remember to make sure the little light on the f12 button is blue, not red. This guide should work for other laptops and other distros as well (though obviously you'll likely need a different driver file to start off with).

Mar 17, 2010We've recently created 3 new RHEL5 servers and added them to the existing workgroup which all our other 7 RHEL4 servers run on. (All servers have been added into DNS). We seem to be having a few issues pinging 3 of the RHEL5 servers.
Below is an example of our ping tests:
WinsSrv1: Can ping all but RHELSrv1
WinsSrv2: Can ping all REHL Servers
WinsSrv3: Can ping all but RHELSrv2
WinsSrv4: Can ping all but RHELSrv2 & RHELSrv4
WinsSrv5: Can ping all RHEL Servers
There is no real pattern as to what server we can ping. We can ping all RHEL4 servers with no issues. All REHL5 servers can ping themselves with no issues.

Jun 3, 2010in order to select multiple items, shift key was hold for several seconds[sure > 8sec] and there after system is not taking any input from keyboard. however only the mouse works. i searched a lot and found some remedies like hold right and/or left shift keys for 8 sec and it will revert back. press shift key 5 times and hold ins key for 8 sec etc,. but i tried all these and none of it seems to be working. i even hold some alphabet key for 8 seconds to see if it takes input, but none of them seems to be working
i connected this keyboard to other machine and it works fine. this keyboard is USB dell keyboard. i tried logging in init level 3 and even with this i can not input anything from keyboard. i did reboot several times and unable to even login as it does not take any keyboard input. the only way i can access this system is to remote login from other system and work on command prompt!!is there a fix to it? accidentally if something is changed in which file it is saved? can i edit that file and restore to normal? am not sure if all these does not work i may have to reformat!! but this is the last thing i want to do

Aug 31, 2010Can anybody explain how I can set a hostname alias in RHEL5. We are testing RHEL to replace our Solaris LDAP servers, one of the things we need is to be able to set a hostname alias on the public interface.In solaris we can just update the /etc/hosts file to something like
ipaddress hostname alias1 alias2
Things looks alittle different in RHEL, the host file only contains
127.0.0.1 hostname.fqdn localhost.localdomain localhost
I read about the sysconfig/network files but can only see about changing the hostname there and nothing about setting a different alias.

Sep 11, 2010I've been struggling trying to get a Lenovo T410 to display video on both it's internal LCD and an external display at the same time, and I need to get it working by Monday or I'm toast. know this will work with other distros, but we are contractually bound to use RHEL5.If we use the laptop on it's own there is no problem, however once we set it in the docking station, the external display shows no video, unless it is rebooted. Then it will only display video on the external and not the laptops own display.
Our engineers are constantly going to meetings and need to be able to undock the laptop and have the display appear without having to reboot. Then conversely, return to their desks and have the video on the external display without rebooting.I suspect that the problem is that RHEL5 is only up to release X11R7.1 of X.Org, which is still using version 1.1 of RandR and from what I can surmise, 1.1 of RandR does not recognize multiple video outputs.I was hoping that someone more knowledgeablthan I can confirm this and if I'm right do I need to manually build the latest release of X.Org to get this to work
