What is the downloading application in Linux comparable to bittorrent
(i want to download from torrentz.com)
I tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and now Xubuntu, all 11.04. I've also tried Deluge, Transmission and Ktorrent. With 10.10 everything worked fine (all variants). Also, in Windows 7 it's working fine. But now it drives me crazy. As soon as I start a torrent, the download starts but after 30 seconds or so the download drops to a zero. Also, I'm not able to browse anymore. The networkmanager tells me I still have a connection.
Some say it has something to do with the number of peers the client connects to, or it's my router. My router isn't the problem, as it's working fine with 10.10 and windows. So maybe it's the number of peers right? Question. Why can I connect with over 200 peers at the same time while I'm using 10.10 or windows, but can't do it with 11.04? Better put, what should I do to get this working fine again? Going back to 10.10?
Any recommendations, got project to start a website coming up.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Fedora setup is working great so far, and I don't really have any complaints. I installed it on a portable hard drive, connected over USB. Thing is, I installed my system with the LiveCD, and I wanted to download the full DVD for a friend because of his needs for his system. When I try to download the full DVD (whether over Firefox or Transmission), the system hangs by suddenly showing a screen with the Fedora logo in the middle and a light blue background, the same as in boot up. Also, my caps lock blinks in a consistent fashion like a metronome. The same happens whether I try to download to the portable hard drive or to a FAT32 partition on my laptop's actual hard drive. Is there any way to fix this, or can I be calmed by the fact that it just happens because it's installed on a portable hard drive? This problem isn't happening on Ubuntu (which is installed on my laptop's hard drive), where I am downloading from right now.

using fedora 9 i've problems getting bittorent to work. i have an external kerio firewall but my messages seem not to get thrue. I read about port forwarding, as a way to speed up bittorent I interprete that as bundling the port series 6881 till 6999 to ferdora:6881 so all the ports are channeld to the bittorent machine and 1 port.(tcp and Udp)
that how I did set it up, but i seem not to get a lot of throughput i guess Maybe 1kb per week, I do not know if this is what is seen as a slow bittorent.... on the firewall i see a lot of messages running arround but nothing seems to advance
what can I do, verify to get this running. (I temporarly switched off fedora's firewall( internal) is there a way to structuraly test bittorent? is my forwarding rule correct? (input multiple ports to single port?
I noticed my Internet slows to a crawl when I'm running bittorrent, but when I look at my torrent app (Transmission), the upload/download speeds are mere kilobytes per second, and my Internet has much higher bandwidth capabilities than that.So I tested it:No torrent running
(ping: 13 ms, down: 11.39 mb/s, up: 2.80 mb/s)
Torrent running
(ping: 752 ms, down: 4.30 mb/s, up: 0.19 mb/s)

Using Ubuntu 10.04 or 10.10, have a router. Whether connected via ethernet or wifi, I'm experiencing a problem downloading files. Trying to download a linuxmint iso , my laptop will freeze up after 5 or 10 min. I have plenty of disk space, and screensaver off. I've googled quite a bit and can't get a clue. My desktop will freeze up too. I can't imagine what would cause this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine.
When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?
I am trying to create a local repository of installed RPMs on my workstation. Using the 'rpm -qa' I can gather the installed RPMs on my workstation. Is there a way for me download all these RPMs using the output of 'rpm -qa'? 'yum --downloadonly' will allow me the option of downloading without installing. Since the installed RPMs are not cached in my workstation I have to download these RPMs again. If I have a local repo then it will be easier for me restore my installation without having to rediscover the packages needed. I am looking for how I can download multiple RPMs.

I am promoting and convincing a lot of people to try Linux and I always recommend fedora as the OS of choice. I have no interest in creating my own distro, because I love Fedora. I just want to make sure these users can have all the codecs and little extras that makes computing fun without being a geek.My main issue is when I wipe their HDD and install Fedora, I then have to repeat the same tweaks and installs every time. This is my 7th time doing the exact same install and am looking for a quicker way.
I have a lot of emails on hotmail and gmail that I want to store in text or html files on my local Fedora computer for future reference. Is there a way I can download them to my hard drive without doing it one email at a time with the browser's Save Page As feature or some such thing? There has to (?) be a better way.
Every mail program should have an easy-to-use 'mass' export-to-text-file feature so that people are not held hostage to a particular email service or program. The lack of such a feature in email programs I've used is one of my pet peeves. It seems rather tyrannical and abusive. (Now before someone tells me it's a free service, please remember all the advertisements I have to go through to use the service). I do not have an email account through an ISP. I live with my landlord who deals with the ISP. I only use hotmail and gmail (and, rarely, yahoo).
iam working on fedora 14 kde 32-bit version
as the title says , when iam downloading anything from anywhere ,, even when iam updating , i cant use anything else on internet ,,, no chat , not even browsing ,
Since yesterday Kmail has started downloading ALL ,messages, not just the new ones, from the server. It is a real pain as the mail check takes about twenty minutes and Kmail usually freezes afterwards. Then I have to close it down and after restart it downloads several thousand messages all over again. This has only started happening since yesterdays Fedora update, which I think was anything to do with Kmail?
I am using Fedora 14.
EDIT: I have just notice it is not downloading ALL messages, just the read ones. The new messages are being left on the server but the old ones are downloaded and flagged as new. So it seems as if something has got flipped around somewhere?
I know that Windows likes to store files according to Gibibytes, but why is Fedora Core downloading in an MiB format? Is that Mibibytes?

I am downloading the dvd installation version of fedora 13.
I have 110GB of unallocated space to put towards the project my main concern is how i should go about partitioning the space in the best way. (how much space for /boot and swap. what type of partitions should i use and so on)
Second concern would be to make sure i correctly configure grub(i have had trouble with grub recently) i just dont want to run into any issues after the installation.
I got a problem while updating KDE from 4.1.2 to 4.2. In our college we can't download more than 20MB officially. So I'm unable to get kdegames which is 32MB from Konsole so I downlaoded it using proxy and I copied it into the /var/cache/yum/updates/packages/ folder and now using this command (yum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)').
I tried to update to KDE 4.2 using Konsole but it is showing:
Error Downloading Packages:
6:kdegames-4.2.0-1.fc10.i386: failure: kdegames-4.2.0-1.fc10.i386.rpm from updates: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
And even by double-clicking the KDEgames rpm file I'm unable to install it is saying GPG (I'm not sure GPG or not, start with G i think) Key missing so it is taking too much time and not doing anything.
I've downloaded the DVD version of Fedora 12 with a torrent so it shouldn't be corruped - checked the hash anyway and it wasn't - and I burnt it at a low speed and has my burning program verify that it did indeed burn what it was supposed to. I tested the disc for errors and every time it shows up that around the 70% mark that the DVD has an error.

I'll tell you one thing the guy who started that thread asking way we have not switched from windows yet should be hung by his gonads for sure like there is ever any chance of replacing windows with errors like this funny this is only a few the list marches on it get s bigger never smaller. The iso burning problem has been around for years now. thats all I can say is there should be a lot of **** flying upstream at xorg pulse and everyone else there work of late sucks as far as bug corrections and proper driver support
I know it 's not fedora is mostly upstream but don't we think its time for someone to say something about this garbage flowing down to us Any how if anyone knows how to get arormoko stop crashing every song. I find they work great when the first come out then the updates hit and it time to dump it for something newer
I am vijaya, glad to meet you all via this forum and my question is I set a crontab for automatic downloading of files from internet by using wget but when I kept it for execution several process are running for the same at the back ground. My concern is to get only one copy, not many copies of the same file and not abled to find out where it's actually downloading.
