iam working on fedora 14 kde 32-bit version
as the title says , when iam downloading anything from anywhere ,, even when iam updating , i cant use anything else on internet ,,, no chat , not even browsing ,
My internet disconnect mabe every second hour and I have to restart the Ubuntu to get internet again. This started to happen when I bought a new wireless card called NETGEAR WG311v3. The live CD didnt have the drivers for it so I had to download XP drivers and install it with ndisrwapper.
So my question is how do I fix it? Do other network drivers crash with my current one? If so how can I see wish one to remove?
Note that my card works fine with XP on same computer.
I have a minor Internet issue. I have a static IP address with the modem acting as a gateway only to my ISP. My Ubuntu server hosts my public IP address and I use pppoeconf to connect. Every 3 hours I lose Internet. I have wrote a short script to reconnect. I doubt that it is my ISP trying to renew that often.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just installed Ubuntu this morning and don't have much time to detail my problem before my internet goes out again. I am currently running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala?). I just got this laptop earlier this week with windows 7 and decided to put ubuntu on it via Wubi. Anyhoo, I login and then enter my wifi password and eveythings fine. I can surf the internet for a bit and everythings fine. but after a while, the wireless indicator on the keyboard begins to flicker on and off (between a connection and no connection) then starts to stall. The first thing I did was install google chrome (always the first thing to do) and I accidentally downloaded the wrong version A-OK. After I saw I downloaded the wrong version, I downloaded the correct, 32-bit version and installed it. During the download it said I had a 750kBs speed, but took much longer to download than had it been downloaded at a consistent 750kBs speed. I then tried to use update synaptic and it began to download reload all 44 packages and stalled around 38 or so. My internet then disconnected (wouldn't reconnect) and the download failed. I went back into windows uninstalled Ubuntu and then reinstalled it. After going through the first few steps again I began to update via update manager and surfed the web. After a few minutes of surfing the indicator began to flicker than just went off. I then connected to my neighbors internet, continued surfing and then the internet just crashed. I've found that when its just lightweight surfing, everythings okay, but during a download or any 2.0 surfing, then things start to get funky.

On Windows Vista everything worked fine without problem, while on Kubuntu 10.04 the installation has been OK, but when the client connects, my internet connection drops, so I'm not able to do anything!How should I fix this?I'm currently using an adsl, connecting through pppoeconf.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 because I was facing internet problems with previous Ubuntu 9.04 after I upgraded it with downloaded software. And now, 10.10 connects to wireless, but shows web-page some-times and repeatedly disconnects. Earlier it wasn't reaching Internet at all. Some of the topics here helped a lot. But this intermittent internet seems not going anywhere. Wired Internet connects easily though.
I've tried :-
-disabling ipv6..... first in Firefox, then in Kernel also
-Setting DNS.....System> Preferences> Network Connections
-setting static Ip
The system still gives trouble.
My system is Asus UL20A.

I am vijaya, glad to meet you all via this forum and my question is I set a crontab for automatic downloading of files from internet by using wget but when I kept it for execution several process are running for the same at the back ground. My concern is to get only one copy, not many copies of the same file and not abled to find out where it's actually downloading.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter I updated to kernel-2.6.27.9-159.fc10 a couple of weeks ago, my wireless kept dropping the connection every few minutes (using an intel 3945 with the kernel iwl driver), particularly if secured with WPA. Updating to the 2.6.27.12-170.2.5.fc10 kernel currently in updates-testing has solved the problem.

This one is about the openvpn client which is used by me to connect to my company network. Thanks to the Fedora FAQ it was easy for me to set up the client and establish a connection. There is just one problem every time I open a connection I am disconnected from my local Internet. I was using openvpn on my Windows XP PC before and there was no problem keeping two Network connections, the (W)LAN and the vpn tunnel. Does anyone know how to solve this? I am utilizing the latest Fedora 11 release and configured openvpn client via the Network Manager GUI.

Now however it keeps disconnecting every 10 minutes, even if I browse the web. On top of this, it also becomes very hot, so hot that you can feel it through the plastic case.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a new fresh-from-DVD install of Fedora 14 64-bit (over top of Fedora 12 64-bit which went over top of Fedora 10 64-bit before that) my Linksys WUSB600N adapter connects at login to my WiFi N router with WPA2 Personal.
That is great, as previously (fc10/12) I had to use the Ralink drivers per ogetbilo's thread on this forum (that thread kept me on the net for many years now). And at some point this even became a pain because sometimes the system would boot and refuse to connect to the wireless (which would hang trying to connect) and then crash to a dump screen on shutdown (bug reported). The fix was hoped to be found in upgrading to F14 and the newer kernels with working native Ralink chip support.
But I still have an issue... the connection stays up for a few minutes then drops. If I disable/re-enable wireless it (at least sometimes) re-connects. But obviously that is not workable. This is a USB adapter and I am not entirely sure that there is not some USB powersave issue going on, but I do not see anywhere to disable system USB power saving either.
I recently installed Fedora 14 on my machine. Ever since I cannot connect to the Internet at home.henever I plugin in the ethernet cable the ADSL router disconnects and all machines connected to the router lose connection to the Internet.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm currently on F11, and experienced problems with Network Manager. Whenever I to connect to a network, wired or wireless, it just seems to try to connect, and then after 2-3 seconds, it just reports "Disconnected"..
Then I switched to network, and both wired and wireless works. so I don't think there is any driver or hardware issue...
Does anyone have any idea of this problem? The network manager have worked on the live CD version ( before installed to HD).
With Fedora 11, I got NetworkManager, and it never worked right.. Right now, the nm-applet crashes regularly, no message nothing, just disappears from the panel. I wrote a two-liner to run it in an infinite loop. But my wifi also disconnects every 10 minutes. It's like clockwork, it just disconnects. I see things about "error 38" in the logs. I tried downgrading, upgrading, nothing helped.

However, the connection never survives more than 8 seconds, when it goes disconnected with the message "Route monitor alarm". From my recent search for a solution I've found that this error is caused by a change in a route table, which violates a connection policy.

While in Internet my connection seem to be off after some time when I stop browsing. I connect via DSL modem and I turned off network manager control over my DSL connection. I set up my connection on boot. Where can I fix it? Or where can I see the conf files for network connection setup?
View 2 Replies View RelatedGot a problem when I try to stream stuff off the net, such as watching ....., or listening to music clips.Basically, the internet just simply disconnects after a few seconds, or a minute at most after starting to stream - although it appears to be connected in the wireless icon thingymigig in the top right taskbar, eventually that goes though and says I'm disconnected.
While browsing normally, and using the net normally with messenger and looking throughwebsites,uploading/downloading via ftp, with no videos or music streaming, the net stays on - no problems.If I try to stream stuff from another computer running windoze 7, then these problems dont occur, the net doesn't disconnect and can stream till the end of time (or so it seems).Why does this happen just on the Linux machine?
I use Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I need a download manager that can pause download whenever there is a network interruption, keeps pinging to check if the network is back on.. and then continues file download seamlessly.
Though this feature seems basic to download managers, so far I ve never seen it working well in Linux at all... I live in a place where voltage fluctuations and thereby internet disconnection is common, around this time of the year.. So I am desperate for a nice download manager. I had seen 'Star downloader' in Win XP work like a charm. But Kget and Gwget drive me nuts.. As soon as the internet is down, Gwget keeps displaying the same download speed and 'Retrieving...' status and. I need to keep checking in and resuming download.

My host OS looses its connection with internet for 10-15 seconds and then it comes back on. Probably something goes wrong with default gateway, as it looses only external network (I still can reach it on my internal network). I've googled a lot, but cant find anything about that. I use bridged network.
Im having problems with Ubuntu 10.04. My wireless disconnects frequently and firefox seems to stop working. it seems the connection times out sometimes when firefox stops. other times the connection just disconnects. When I was running 9.04 everything worked and nothing disconnected, so I know its not my computer.
My laptop is an IBM t40, 1.4 ghz, 2gig of ram.It does not seem to mater if Im using the wireless or the wired connection. The problem happens either way.does anyone have a solution for this?
im using fedora 14 and i have a slow internet connection. i want 2 install some packages from the fedora 14 dvd instead of downloading from internet using add/remove packages. i tried to edit /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo and /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-updates.repo but it dint work.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.

It didn't used to be like that but at a certain time i was forced to install pppoeconf to get my DSL internet connection going, after that even if i've uninstall pppoeconf and now i'm only using nm-applet to monitor my internet connection i still have this annoying problem.

When downloading something I am unable to use the internet with other net clients. An example, this morning I was downloading a very large set of backup files from an online server where I store backups. The files totalled 1.5 GB and I was downloading them using a SFTP client called FileZilla - during the download I was UNABLE to access the internet using Firefox, pages did not load at all - NOT slowly, but NOT at all, the "can't find the server" message was displayed by Firefox.LikewiseThunderbird was not able to check/download email. Confirmation that no internet access (other than FileZilla) was possible was shown by trying to 'ping google.com', the response "ping: unknown host google.com". During all this FileZilla was downloading very happily and quickly and as soon as the downloads finished everything worked as normal.
The problem is not limited to FileZilla, when downloading a file with Firefox the same problem occurred. It is as if when downloading something all other net connections are put on hold including DNS lookups. In the past my internet connection might slow down as a result of downloading but I'd still be able to access the web and email just slower as a result of the download. This problem has only started happening in the last week or thereabouts.
