View 8 Replies View RelatedThere is some issue with the latest version of LinuxDC++ (version: 1.2.0~pre1~bzr Core version: 0.75). I have upgraded to the latest version a few days back from launchpad repos due to the frequent crashes and system hang-ups. My complete and incomplete downloads folder are same. While my download was going on, LinuxDC++ deleted all the files from the downloads folder.
After about half an hour of tweaking, I updated my database using updatedb, and found my files in ~/.dc++/Filelists/anantwqqwe.BMIU2NFCFXB7ERTSG62PRSQPRJIN63A56EEGO6Q . What does that supposed to mean and why its doing this way? This is the second time this has happened to me, the last time I was unable to locate the deleted files on my system and I suppose they were not there. I use 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10(maverick).
I downloaded the Ubuntu file via the website and it was a Rar file. So I then extracted this file and there is no Iso file in there. Was it suppose to be a rar file and where the hell is my iso file? I want to know as I want to test ubuntu first via a disc before installing it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI know that the question could sound weird but...I was wondering if is possible to download one or more parts of a file.
For example, the first 10 mb, or the latter ones.
I know that there are some apps that let you do segmented downloads, but, is there anyone that let you choose the segment to be downloaded? If not, can this be accomplished with any linux command-line application?
I am, as the forum title suggests, new to linux and to programming and having trouble figuring out how to do this.I have a very large XML file with a lot of information in it. I'm trying to get a single tag out of the file, each of these tags contains a single web link and I want to download the file at every single one of those links. I really don't know how to do this.My thought, though its probably not the most efficient or correct way, was to use VIM to search the document and somehow extract all of this one particular tag and then use wget on the links.

But when i give the image server ip address to the image server. it promote a message says that release file cannot be download...
I dont know y i'm geting this error..
In that link there is image call netboot installer. i boot from that .iso am i correct or i didn't understand that thing.
How can I know the filesize of the downloaded file before downloading it?
Using Ubuntu/Fedora
Example: [url]
This was what I tried...wget -A rar [-r [-l 1]] <mediafireurl>
That is to say, I tried with and without the recursive option. It ends up downloading an HTML page of a few KB in size, while what I want is in the range 90-100 MB and RAR.
What happens with MediaFire for those who may not be aware, is that it first says
Processing Download Request...
This text after a second or so turns into the download link and reads

I have attempted to install Opera by downloading the Deb file and running:
Code:
sudo dpkg -i oopera_10.10.4742.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb
The installation appears to complete itself successfully. However, when I come to then clicking on the new Opera logo in the panel menu, nothing happens. Even after a restart.
What could I be doing wrong? How should I launch Opera?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been tinkering around with Linux over the past couple weeks. I've played arodn with both Ubuntu 10.10 and Linux Mint 10 and it's been a 99% positive experience. I have noticed an issue regarding my internet connection.
I've noticed when I download a file in Ubuntu (either from the software manager, BitTorrent or just a regular download in Firefox), browsing the web on my computer becomes near impossible. The download itself runs at a good speed for our DSL connection (around 200 KB/sec) but anything else near a standstill. Just loading ESPN.com on my PC can take a minute or two. Someone else playing a game in the house will go from a regular 100-200 ms ping to 5000+ right when the download starts. When I stop the download, internet browsing and gaming speeds go right back to normal.
The weird thing is the same thing happened when I installed Linux Mint 10. When I boot into my Vista partition, this isn't an issue. Downloading a file in Vista doesn't affect anything, but it's happening every time in both Ubuntu and Linux Mint.
I am planning to install Ubuntu or kubuntu netbook remix on my netbook. WUBI has a problem downloading the .iso file. So do you know where the wubi directory in windows is, i have the .iso file.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to download a file (reasonably large) from say for e.g sourceforge. The problem is some mirrors give speeds of at max 40kB/s and I was considering options to increase this. I considered download managers and seems to work somewhat I experimented with axel and lftp's pget. Now I am wondering how I might download the same file from severals servers (say sourceforge's various mirrors). I tried axel by concataneting all server adresses but not sure if it is working. How do I verify that it is indeed using all the servers specified??

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a way to configure rTorrent to stop downloading all torrents after they have downloaded x amount. For example, specify 15mb and as soon as the torrent reaches that size have it finish downloading the pieces it has requested and then start seeding partially completed. The reason for this is I'm trying to come up with a way to build ratio on a site where torrents are added very fast and at a very high frequency.
I download and add the torrents to rTorrent automatically via RSS, but I only want to download a small amount and seed that small piece while there are still a lot of people in the swarm (swarm drops off very quickly) and come out with a positive ratio from that small piece, beating the ratio clock so to speak. I thought it would be an interesting all be it somewhat impractical exercise in shell scripting, if rTorrent can be hooked into like that, documentation is sparse in some areas.
after doing: $ sudo apt-get update i get lots of hits then: Hit [URL] pdates/multiverse Sources 99% [Waiting for headers]... and it just sits there. a reload in synaptic gives: downloading file 44 of 45 ... and it just sits there.
when i abort i get the following shown in error message: Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/dists...tion-en_GB.bz2 Failed to fetch http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/dists/stable/Release Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
I'm on Ubuntu 11.04. I have read around about how to use curl to download a list of URLs from a text file, and everyone says to use

I've never figured out a good program to use with file globbing from http sites. Wget works with ftp sites and file globbing and for mirroring I use lftp, but I would really like to download just the files that start with "xf" from Robby's site.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a local repository of installed RPMs on my workstation. Using the 'rpm -qa' I can gather the installed RPMs on my workstation. Is there a way for me download all these RPMs using the output of 'rpm -qa'? 'yum --downloadonly' will allow me the option of downloading without installing. Since the installed RPMs are not cached in my workstation I have to download these RPMs again. If I have a local repo then it will be easier for me restore my installation without having to rediscover the packages needed. I am looking for how I can download multiple RPMs.

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy Fedora setup is working great so far, and I don't really have any complaints. I installed it on a portable hard drive, connected over USB. Thing is, I installed my system with the LiveCD, and I wanted to download the full DVD for a friend because of his needs for his system. When I try to download the full DVD (whether over Firefox or Transmission), the system hangs by suddenly showing a screen with the Fedora logo in the middle and a light blue background, the same as in boot up. Also, my caps lock blinks in a consistent fashion like a metronome. The same happens whether I try to download to the portable hard drive or to a FAT32 partition on my laptop's actual hard drive. Is there any way to fix this, or can I be calmed by the fact that it just happens because it's installed on a portable hard drive? This problem isn't happening on Ubuntu (which is installed on my laptop's hard drive), where I am downloading from right now.

View 3 Replies View Relatedif there is a way of downloading some extra packages and including some extra repositories that will automatically install during the main installation? With the option of a few settings being saved too... like for those that are used to windows having the gnome menu on the bottom.
I am promoting and convincing a lot of people to try Linux and I always recommend fedora as the OS of choice. I have no interest in creating my own distro, because I love Fedora. I just want to make sure these users can have all the codecs and little extras that makes computing fun without being a geek.My main issue is when I wipe their HDD and install Fedora, I then have to repeat the same tweaks and installs every time. This is my 7th time doing the exact same install and am looking for a quicker way.
I have a lot of emails on hotmail and gmail that I want to store in text or html files on my local Fedora computer for future reference. Is there a way I can download them to my hard drive without doing it one email at a time with the browser's Save Page As feature or some such thing? There has to (?) be a better way.
Every mail program should have an easy-to-use 'mass' export-to-text-file feature so that people are not held hostage to a particular email service or program. The lack of such a feature in email programs I've used is one of my pet peeves. It seems rather tyrannical and abusive. (Now before someone tells me it's a free service, please remember all the advertisements I have to go through to use the service). I do not have an email account through an ISP. I live with my landlord who deals with the ISP. I only use hotmail and gmail (and, rarely, yahoo).
