Feb 24, 2010I deleted the usr/lib/nvidia directory by accident.Is there a way to get it back?The nvidia driver version I have is 190.53.

Fedora :: Deleted Downloads Directory Or Moved It
Nov 12, 2009I was trying to install a program and then I tried to mv comman (which I probably did wrong) but to make it short I am pretty sure I deleted the directory. I made another Downloads directory using mkdir but whenever I download anything now I have no idea where it goes.

I ran "yum update" and then hit the Ctrl+C to cancel when I realized that I need to specify a package to update, not all of them, but when the console returned suddenly I lost the connection, when I try to reconnect to the machine, it says /bin/bash not found !! even when I try to issue commands from the VPS control panel, it reports that the commands are not there
I can issue a ticket for the ISP to resolve this, but I need to know the risks before I do this, I have no backup on MySQL and 2 live web applications, although they are still running, I am afraid if I restarted the VPS everything will be gone.

May 17, 2011I have carefully made daily backups using rdiff-backup, so in the case of needing to restore I can do so.
But I deleted a directory yesterday, and made a backup in the evening. Therefore, the directory is not in the latest mirror, but in the incremental backup from yesterday.
Now I need to restore the directory. But I cannot figure out how to!
I can see the directory in yesterday's incremental backup; i.e., the following works:

Where [backupdir] is the backup (mirror) directory, and [nameofdir] is the name of the directory I'm trying to restore.
So, I have tried to restore. This is the type of thing I have tried:

Where to-restore.lst holds the name of the directory to restore (in rdiff-backup's format) and [restoredir]is where I want the restored directory to go to.
But, I get errors like:

Useful file specifications begin with the base directory or some pattern (such as '**') which matches the base directory. Well, obviously the file specification doesn't exist in the [restoredir]. That's because I'm trying to restore it! If I try to create an empty directory first, it complains:

General :: Deleted Root Directory - How To Recover System Data
Feb 27, 2010I have accidentally ended up in deleting my root directory while I blindly fired command while watching movie.
I fired following command
#rm -rf ~/<SPACE>*.out
instead of this command
#rm -rf ~/*.out
Things already done:
1) Created /root directory relogged to get some of basic settings of gnome and Desktop.
2) Things went well now when I login my desktop ,gnome environment and other things looks to be working well only prompt on my terminal has changed. I can fix it any ways.
Things I want to ask:
1) I haven't studied much about contents of /root directory to best of my knowledge is it like other user's home directory with some basic configuration files for mostly required applications. SO my question is have I lost any thing important system file or something?
2) If I have lost any important configuration or system data how can I recover it without reinstalling whole system? (My opinion about this is, It is quite possible but to do so, as far as I know capabilities of linux. But I still want comments from experts before I try any things on it because I don't want to backup my whole HDD and reinstall the whole stuff again for me and also my sister's stuff in MS.)

Jan 22, 2010I installed Fedora 12 nowdays and tried to install the driver as Leigh posted in here: [URL]...Well i had some depadency trouble by installing kmod-nvidia and xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686. I enabled rpmfusion repo of course. I don't have anything isntalled just the base programs what fedora installs. I updated the kernel and installed kernel-devel aswell.

Hardware :: NVIDIA 8800 GTS - Dual Boot Fedora 10 Does Not See The NVIDIA Driver
Feb 5, 2009I am experiencing the following issue. After enabling SLI and PhysX in windows vista, my dual boot fedora 10 does not see the NVIDIA driver.
Doing: cat /proc/drivers/nvidia/0 I get? in the VGA bios for both cards.
I disabled both SLI and PhysX in vista, but the problem persists. I powerdown and unplugged the rig for several hours without results.
Here are my specs:
CPU: Intel Q9300
Board: MSI P7N Diamond
CARD0: EVGA Gforce 8800 GTS
CARD1: EVGA Gforce 8800 GTS
RAM : 4 Gbytes OCZ gold PC6400 (4 x 1 Gbytes)
PSU : Thermaltake SLI ready 850 W
It is important to mention that initially Fedora did see the cards and I was able to set up a dual monitor system. It right was after I enable SLI and PhysX and re-booting into Linux that the problem showed up.
I have seen this issue before in another machine with an ASUS board, but not until today I associated with the SLI setup. My guess is that there has to be something that the driver is enabling in the cards that messes up the interface between the nvidia.ko module and the kernel, but I don't know what may fix it. I need this system for some numerical calculations.

Jun 7, 2010I searched the forum with various terms and didn't find anything, so my apologies if this is a common and/or newbie problem.It seems that when I have a USB driveplugged in to switch the files around, those that I delete are still taking up space. I first noticed it with a Chinese MP3 player and thought it was the player being crappy. I could still play all the songs that were supposedly gone. Today, I noticed it with a little thumb drive that I've had for years. I plugged it into my husband's computer running winXP, and the files showed up in a weird, unusable form. I was able to delete them for real.

I have a priitty high spec pc with the nvidia 260 gtx.

Fatal server error:no screens found I had done a yum install kmod-nvidia for the newer kernel. I am thinking I need to get the kmod for the current kernel again (2.6.32.12-115.fc12.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Apr 30 19:46:25 UTC 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux), but am not sure how that is done?

May 30, 2010i did something wrong and i was left with one way and that was reinstalling fedora core 12 so i don't want to do the wrong way one more time,what is the difference between kmod-nvidia and akmod-nvidia?i did yum -y install akmod-nvidia and then type xconfig-nvidia on the terminal,after logging off i confront with a blank screen,so i reinstall fc12 x86-64.from what i've understand this is what i should do?
1:yum update
2:setsetbool -P allow-execstack on ==> in order to lower your system protection so SElinux doesn't prevent the driver from loading
3:if it's standard kernel type use komd-nividia and for PAE kernel type use kmod-nvidia-PAE
4: Keep nouveau from loading so
su -c 'mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img'
and
su -c 'dracut /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)'

Software :: Cannot Uninstall Flash-plugin From Yast - Deleted Flash-Plugin Directory
Aug 15, 2010In my frustration to get adobe flash working in firefox I deleted the /usr/lib/flash-plugin folder. Now when I try to uninstall "Flash-Plugin" from YAST it fails as it can't find the sub-folder. I also cannot install the latest version of flash player as it says that it is already installed - So I am stuck in a loop.
I am running SUSE 11.2.
Is there a config file of installed programs that I can modify to remove the "Flash-Plugin" entry, or is there another way to get over this problem.

I have looked up multiple howto's and tutorials, but I'm having a problem not addressed by any of them.Official how-to, another how-to, and another how-to.I have verified that nfs-utils, nfs-utils-lib, portmap, and system-config-nfs are installed and running. I have verified that I have, in fact, shared the directory that I want to share, and that the proper permissions are set.
I had to go through some gyrations to get the Belkin wireless N router to allow my server to have a static IP. However, I can ping the server from the nfs client (a toshiba satellite running mint 8), and vice versa. I have (for now) disabled firewalls on both computers. I think I have disabled SELinux on Fedora 13 (for now).When I attempt to connect to the server from the client, the output looks like this:Quote:

Fedora :: Accidently Deleted F12
Jan 22, 2010So I installed F12 x86_64 version the other day. Everything was going okay. So today I signed on to my windows 7 instead. While I was on it. I was looking at the extra space I had allocated for F12. Well I thought I was going to delete that but I actually deleted the F12 partition. This means that I don't have a MBR anymore. Is there anyway I can get my original MBR back onto my windows 7? I'm going to buy a separate hard drive to install windows 7 later. I just would like to know if I really screwed up by deleting F12. If this helps, it did switch my bootloader from the main MBR in 7, to grub. I tried EasyBCD to reinstall it but it keeps say it failed.

Dec 28, 2010I accidentally deleted /usr/lib , by trying to delete a file from that directory, i didnt notice there was a blank space before the file i wanted to delete , so i had to reinstall fedora 14 again but it's ok because i just installed fedora yesterday.The question is if i can just make a backup of the whole directory /usr/lib , and other important directories and if something goes wrong , can i just copy and paste to their respective directories ? will that restore system stability or will it crash because of time stamps or anything like that.

When I booted the windows xp cd, it would get stuck on a blank black screen after displaying the words ""Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration."I searched for that problem and the solution to it seemed to be to clear the mbr. I tried doing that in fedora from the terminal using: dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sda1 bs=446 count=1That didn't work. I kept getting this message:0+0 records in0+0 records out0 bytes (0 B) copied, 2.2978e-05 s, 0.0 kB/sAt this point, I backed up all my data in fedora thinking that I would delete the fedorainstallation and start anew with xp and then reinstall fedora.
I had an old slackware cd around that I thought I could use to run fdisk from and delete the partitions for fedoraen I did that I found that it wouldn't recognize anypartitions. I kept trying to print out the partition table and it would display nothing.But I can view the partition table when I run fdisk from the terminal in fedoraUnfortunately I lost the cds I used to install fedora long ago and I don't have any blank cds that I could write isos to. So, my question is would there be any disastrous consequences if I deleted the fedora partitions from the terminal while running fedora?

Because of the fact that Windows has to be reinstalled once a year (it's only windows ) I deleted the MBR accidentely. Now I can't start Fedora again.When I start Linux using the Installation CD of Fedora 10 my partition is not mounted automatically because I am using LVM.
