Red Hat :: Enterprise 5u4 Install From FTP Problems Using Non-anonymous?

Does RHEL install using FTP support username/password without the GUI? I need to secure my RHEL network FTP hosted from Windows 2k3r2 Weird problem happened... maybe my code is wrong in default.cfg:
ks=ftp://usernameCOLONpassword@192.168.0.1:50/rhel32/ks.cfg (more below)
Symptoms:
1) Kickstart found with anonymous ftp using ks=ftp://192.168.0.1:50/rhel32/ks.cfg (with IIS anonymous on)
2) GUI mode works when I select non-anonymous and enter a windows username/password
3) how do i do it using default.cfg instead for the GUI???
OS: RHEL5u4 Client CD over network install using IIS FTP PXELinux: Latest verrsion

Running Debian 5. I have a small server that needs to provide anonymous ftp service (download only) to the folks in my dept (we have a firewall that will keep outsiders out, so I'm not worried about outside folks getting to the files). The question is: which anonymous ftp server should I install? Something that can be installed via "apt-get install xyzzy", where I can edit the /etc/xyzzy.conf file to point to the /home/ftp directory, and start/stop it with /etc/init.d/xyzzy start|stop|restart command.

I would like to know where i can find a step-by-step guide to install sendmail 8.13.8 in my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1, the rpm packages of sendmail are included on the DVD instalation disc, but it was not instaled when the OS was instaled, and when i tried to use the manual on the Red Hat Web i discovered that it is for a different version (of Red Hat and sendmail) and there are not the same packages, (it's missed the sendmail-*.src.rpm package but there's a sendmail-devel-8.13.8-2.el5.i386.rpm package instead). So i don't know what to do, because the first thing that that guide installs is that source package, besides, when i make "rpm -qpil package.rpm" i found that the others packages have not the same things inside (it's missed /etc/aliases and /etc/aliases.db files). Please help. I haven't found anything to install this version of sendmail, and i have never done this before.

I am trying to install openldap 2.4.21 in redhat enterprise 5 version and I am having some issues. When I ran the configure command, I had the following error.
checking for Berkeley DB major version in db.h... 4
checking for Berkeley DB minor version in db.h... 3
checking if Berkeley DB version supported by BDB/HDB backends... no
configure: error: BerkeleyDB version incompatible with BDB/HDB backends
So I downloaded and installed Berkeley DB 4.8.26 version. But my problem is how do I make openldap to point to this.

I am trying to install guest additions on Oracle Enterprise Linux Update 5. Whenever I try to the run VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run script I get the following problem:
erifying archive integrity.All good. Uncompressing VirtualBox 2.0.0 Guest Additions for Linux installation. VirtualBox 3.0.6 Guest Additions installation install the build and header files for your current Linux kernel. The current kernel version is 2.6.18-164.el5PAE Problems were found which would prevent the Guest Additions from installing. correct these problems and try again. I also tried yum install using the following commands without any luck:
yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers-`uname -r`
Following are the package information of my kernel-devel and headers:
> rpm -q kernel-devel
kernel-devel-2.6.18-164.el5
> rpm -q kernel-headers
kernel-headers-2.6.18-164.el5
I have been spending a couple of hours already on how to fix this but I still couldnt get to install this.

I am a newbie with Linux and I am eager to learn it .
I installed RHEL6 beta on My Dell D620 and everything seems to be fine except the Video Driver. I installed the Desktop and the Video card of my laptop is NVIDIA QUADRO NVS110M with the max resolution 1440x900. The max resolution I have now is 1024x768.I want to install the NVDIA driver,I already downloaded the RPMS from http://www.atrpms.net/ website but I am afraid it won't work because of dependencies..if I try to use the hard way by using rpm -Uhv.
Is there any other way for example using YUM or other ways.If I use YUM what command I have to type.

I'm trying to install a GeForce 8600 XT card into novell Open Enterprise SUSE 11 so that I can get the 3D Cube to work. It currently does not work with the default nvidia card onthe motherboard.I can not find the correct driver for the GeForce 8600XT card. Can someone identify the driver I should be using please? Then if someone could also direct me to the "How to install a Video Driver" tutorial,
UPDATE:I've downloaded the correct drivers but it still says that my hardware does not support Desktop enhancements etc ... I think the GeForce 8600 XT just doesn't support 3D accelleration ... period.Can someone suggest a reasonably priced video card that is easy to install and which supports 3D Accelleration please?

I set up an FTP server with two separate directories. One of them is mine, and the other one is shared (for anonymous ftp). The layout is like this.
/home/hallvor <---- this is my ftp directory where I keep my private files. I am the only user.
/home/ftp <---- this is the shared ftp directory with anonymous login.
Whenever I transfer files from my ftp directory to the public /home/ftp, I would like to: prevent anonymous users from deleting files in /home/ftp or uploading their own files to that directory (read only) What permissions must I set? I think this is all a bit confusing. I tried to chmod /home/ftp to 644 and change ownership to root, but that made it impossible to even log on anonymously.

I have a text based game installed on a Linux server, and I would like to allow logins on that server via SSH, but with restrictions.The login should go directly to the game which reads keyboard input from stdin. If the game quits the user should be immediately disconnected from the server. Alternately, if the user logs in there should only be one command available to the user, the game.I have thought about using a web based interface to the game, but there is something about playing the game in a terminal that just feels right.Please don't reply with "this is a bad idea..." or its variants because that is an easy out. I just want to know if anyone knows of a solution.

I have configured vsftpd on Ubuntu 9.04 and it is working fine. I have configured non-anonymous ftp so that only few of us can acces that ftp. Now I want to secure it using ssl. so I have changed the vsftpd.conf file and entered the following lines in it.
rsa_cert_file=/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem
rsa_private_key_file=/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key
ssl_enable=YES
force_local_logins_ssl=YES
force_local_data_ssl=YES
After the restarting the service now when I try to connect to the ftp server it gives me this error. 530 Non-anonymous sessions must use encryption.

In my house I have a small computer running ubuntu karmic that works as a server/media center.
I would like to have a folder (my ~/public folder) openly available to the entire world via anonymous ftp.
I have read somewhere that the defauld vsftpd config is basically this: no local user login, anon only and sharing a folder called /home/ftp, but I can't get this to work.

obviously it's at least difficult but I'm interested in knowing if it's theoretically possible to allow anonymous users of vsftpd to upload to the same directory that anon_root is set to. If it's not then it's no big deal, I'm just trying to get a sense of the range of possibilities.
