General :: How To Install Icecast On Red Hat Enterprise System ES Release 4
Feb 13, 2011
I'm starting an online Internet radio station and my server Linux Distro is Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) and I want to install icecast so I can stream music and video onto my website. I already check the package manger to see if it was there and it was not so how do I install icecast?
I've run into a problem when trying to restore a file using AMANDA. My setup is as follows: I have a server that runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 and I have a client that runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4. I successfully backed up files on the client using AMANDA.
Now I am trying to restore a file from the backup and restore it to the client running Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4. In order to do this, I have to go through the server which runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4.
Here is the problem I encounter. When I try the restore, it freezes at the extraction process. I've left it running for the night and still it is stuck at the same place. The restore never completes.
So I'm wondering if anyone knows what seems to be the issue? Could it be that the AMANDA driver I installed does not allow restore with different versions of Red Hat? Or is there an update in Red Hat 4 that would fix this issue?

I am a newbie with Linux and I am eager to learn it . I installed RHEL6 beta on My Dell D620 and everything seems to be fine except the Video Driver. I installed the Desktop and the Video card of my laptop is NVIDIA QUADRO NVS110M with the max resolution 1440x900. The max resolution I have now is 1024x768.I want to install the NVDIA driver,I already downloaded the RPMS from http://www.atrpms.net/ website but I am afraid it won't work because of dependencies..if I try to use the hard way by using rpm -Uhv. Is there any other way for example using YUM or other ways.If I use YUM what command I have to type.

I would like to know where i can find a step-by-step guide to install sendmail 8.13.8 in my Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.1, the rpm packages of sendmail are included on the DVD instalation disc, but it was not instaled when the OS was instaled, and when i tried to use the manual on the Red Hat Web i discovered that it is for a different version (of Red Hat and sendmail) and there are not the same packages, (it's missed the sendmail-*.src.rpm package but there's a sendmail-devel-8.13.8-2.el5.i386.rpm package instead). So i don't know what to do, because the first thing that that guide installs is that source package, besides, when i make "rpm -qpil package.rpm" i found that the others packages have not the same things inside (it's missed /etc/aliases and /etc/aliases.db files). Please help. I haven't found anything to install this version of sendmail, and i have never done this before.

I have a Dell Precision 330 with (the latest) A09 BIOS and 1 TB SATA hard drive. There is a SATA-IDE converter between the SATA HD and the ATA133 cable. The OS was Window XP Professional SP3.
When adding RH Enterprise Linux 6 onto the computer, I created two additional partitions, one 400 GB for Linux's storage and a 10 GB swap space. I chose Window XP as the default OS.
After the installation, when the system started up, I can hit a key to have two optional OS: Window XP and Linux. If I chose Linux, the system would boot up. If I chose Window XP, the boot failed with a message that windowssystem32configsystem was missing or corrupted. I read some articles that the problem can be fixed in window's recovery console with fixboot. After entering the fixboot command and restarting the computer, Window XP still failed to boot with an error message that another file was missing.
I thought I might have made some mistakes in the installation procedure and it would be cleaner to reinstall both OS. So I tried to install Window XP Professional again. Unfortunately, after booting from Window XP CD and formating the MBR and copying the window XP files, the computer can not restart with the installed XP. Instead, the computer boot from Window XP's CD repeatedly. If I remove Window XP's CD, the computer simply can not boot at all.
I began to wonder whether RH's Enterprise Linux made some change on the MBR of the HD that Window XP can not format.
I am new to Linux.I have installed dual boot, XP(NTFS) and Enterprise Linux Server on same desktop. Now how can I access windows files & folders from Enterprise Linux Server?

I've searched google for hours on end and all I can come up with is generic cent os 4 guides that just wont work. Im not the best when in comes to linux. I do a great job of copying and pasting to a shell prompt and can use ftp etc.
if this is any use.. heres the last output from my last attempt and compiling it...
