how to dynamically create a list within a dictionary using Python.
Code:
dates = defaultdict(int)
array = []
...
dates[m.group(3)] = array.append(date)
dates[m.group(3)] = [array.append(date)]
dates[m.group(3)].append(date)
None of the above works and I've tried everything I can think of.

I am working with ubuntu (linux) and have to create a graphical user interface. The GUI is a 2-D plot that have to plot a point. The point ( x and y co-ordinates) are not hardcoded, and are coming from another file (another piece of code written in c / python). I was thinking to use Glade with c/python to create this. But, I am not sure how to start with this.

I'm trying to compile Ardour on jessie amd64 using the Debian source code (there's already an ardour package but I want to use different compile options). I've applied the Debian patches and have all the required dependencies installed.
Scons quits with a KeyError message from python2.7 saying that os.environ['DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS'] is not defined.
Checking with 'dpkg-archtecture -l' shows that DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS=linux, but 'print os.environ["DEB_HOST_ARCH_OS"]' in python says that name 'os' is not defined. The scons script has 'import os' at the top so it should be seeing it.
How do I make this visible to python (I'm assuming this problem is specific to the jessie python2.7 installation and not python in general)?

I created variables in python and would like to be able to incorporate those into bash commands that will be mixed into the script. Example:
Code:
name=raw_input("Type your name and press ENTER: ")
import os
os.system( echo "name")
Of course this doesn't actually work, but i think you get an indication of what I am trying to do.

I've already used line split stuff to transform my data into something like this in a text file:
Code:
['1', '1', '3', '20.7505207']
['2', '1', '3', '23.0488319']
['3', '1', '3', '-1.5768747']
['4', '1', '3', '-26.4772491']
[code]....
How can I get this on a python program so I can manipulate it as an array?

I have this dictionary file that has this format:
SUBSTITUTE_VALUE, Real Value
SUBSTITUTE_VALUE_2, Real Big Value
SUBSTITUTE_VALUE_HECL, Hardware Abstract
SUBSTITUTE_V, Valley Mem
I want to sort this file so the LONGEST Substitute Values are listed at the top ( so SUBSTITUTE_VALUE_HECL would be first in the list). Obviously I want to keep the related values tagging along with them, so the whole first line would be
SUBSTITUTE_VALUE_HECL, Hardware Abstract
Playing with sort This has me pretty close: sort dict.file -k1.1n,1

I have written a code on Linux that searches a long dictionary. I have used hsearch() function but the problem is it does not work. This is my code://Search the count values from the dictionary.
Code:
#define _GNU_SOURCE
#include<stdio.h>
#include<stdlib.h>
#include<string.h>
#include<search.h>
#include<inttypes.h>
#include<math.h>
[Code]...
I open each DIC file, get the word from it and search the hash table and extract the key from it. The problem with the above code is that it is able to make the hash table but it returns NULL when searching. It should not return NULL in any case because all words from DIC files are there in the dictionary. I am not able to figure out why?

I have bought a pdf dictionary, but I would like to convert it to stardict for my ereader.
I have converted the pdf into txt but is quite a bad result. So I need to reorganize a bit the txt.
I'm not a programmer, so I should need you write me a small script (python, sed, bash...) that if at the end of the line there is not a point then the line have to be joined with the following line. Sometimes happens that there is a point even in the middle of the line: in this case the line have to be splitted.
Once last thing: after the first word it's needed a TAB. I have appended a preview of the txt file.

Here is the issue:I create saome variables to make shortcut to some directories I go frequently (so, I then I type, e.g. cd $P_DIR). Of Course before that I put a valid value into P_DIR variabe.Also, alias, asalias cls=clearSo, I type cls, and is the same as the commando clear (but shorter)What I want to do is that those variables as aliases stay in the computer when I reboot or turn off and turn on.So, I put "somewhere" (this is the place(s) maybe one for variables, and other for aliases, turn of the computer, and when I turn on, the aliases and variables are still there

Can i login to my server using my root account and create a public+private key for one of my users and then manually paste it into his authorized_keys file and give him the private key?
The user im giving it to has a chrooted FTP account...
Is it still ok that i used the root account to create it? He is not going to have root access or nothing is he? This is not a security breach in any way is it?
The user doesn't have shell access to create their own so this is the only way i can think of doing it...
Also what access should the user have to their .ssh folder + the authorized_keys file...?
Are they allowed to read the key? What about write?

I want to be able to create an RPM that will install python 2.7.1 along with sqlite 3.7.3, MySQL-Python-1.2.3 on a CentOS 5.5 x86_64 host(s) in a directory (e.g. /opt/python2.7). Once that's done, I want to be able to alias the new python binary in .bash_profile so that my developers can begin using it.
I understand 2.7.1 can't be installed on a CentOS host but I've done the above using a shell script successfully. If you search hard enough, I posted my script on line . However, I need to create the RPM for political reasons. Besides placing the source file(s) in the SOURCES directory, what do I need to do in the spec to be able to successfully create an RPM installer?
Please be gentle with me. I've been drinking the Windows cool-aid for most of my IT career so, this is one of my first attempts of becoming a better DevOps Admin.

I'm running into a problem when I try to set a variable to an awk output in c-shell. Right now my command is Code: set STR_MSG_TYPE = `awk -F{ '/msg_type/ {print $2}' <filename> | tr -d }'/''*' ` I then run echo to see what the output is and it returns blank, however, when I run the same awk command from the command line, I get an actual output of "MT-715". Am I setting my variable incorrectly? I do something similar using the date command to set a STR_DATE variable earlier in the code and it works fine and I use the same syntax.

i'm practicing in very basic c programs using the gcc compiler.I found that when i create two variables let's say
Code:
int a,b and Code: a=15;
b=3;
a=b;
b--;
then a equals 2.I thought that this isn't normal in C isn't it?I haven't had the time to read the gcc documentation yet...so i think it has something to do with my compiler's default settings.I use the
Code: gcc filename.c -o filename command to compile
Are all variables defined like pointers?

I have a C header file which have arrays of predefined(known) structure type. But i dont have names of arrays and their size. when i include that file and compile my application, i want to know the names and sizesof those arrays.
purpose of application is to get the content of those arrays and to explain it in descriptive words instead of hex numbers.ofcourse this can be done by file pointers and reading also with out header file inclusion, but as i am working in C, once compiled, those variables are in my address space in i include header file.

I am pretty new to PHP so excuse my dumbness. I've searched this up in quite a few places and cant find anything : Basically, I've made an array, within it are 3 more arrays. Their are two values in each array, 'Name' and 'Age'. Basically I am using a While statement to try and cycle through the 'age' value of my array and state whether or not the person is eligible. (I am actually just learning so I'm doing this to just test myself).
Here is my code
Code:
<?php
$people =array(
array('name' => 'Bob', 'age' => 15 ),
array('name' => 'Jhon' , 'age' => 10),
array('name' => 'Sue' , 'age' => 7));
//($value =& $people[0,1,2][age] );
Here was an attempt to try and create a reference to age, I tried it many different ways
while($age < 10) {
echo ('$name, is eligible') ; } ?>
Okay, so I tried to do this through two ways, one way I tried to create a reference to age, then evaluate it, without that line of code their would be no reference, which way is correct, why wont it work? I am using Xammp, so when I launch local host I get an undefined variable error. What To Do?

Strings are of variable length. How could this data be parsed into variables of the right type, and then all converted to strings? What are the functions to use? Strings are unicode ones, and they are delimited by "
