Id like to share with you a strange behavior I�ve been seen with the printf C language function running in Fedora.The code opens a file as showed:descString = fopen( strcat( stringName, txt), a+);There are also some printf functions in the code.However, instead of the printf functions to print their content at the screen, theyve been printing them in the file with the descString file descriptor.Have you ever seen something like that?To print something to the file I use the fprintf function. I didn't make a mistake to confuse printf with fprintf. I'm sure.

For eg: $NUMBEROFPASSES=6.19 to round up I use NUMBEROFPASSES=$(printf %.0f $NUMBEROFPASSES) What I need to do is round up from eg: 6.10 to be 7 and if lower than 6.10 round down to 6

I got curious during the construction of my program to search for blocks of text that contain certain words, and wanted to print out blocks of text with the words I was searching for, initially, in ALL CAPS and seperated by tabs for easy identification. That got boring, though, so I thought, "Can printf do colors, too?" Yes it can.... Who knew?

I am trying to port some "C" code from Solaris to Linux. I have a Dell PowerEdge R610 with an Intel Xeon E5504 quad core processor running Red Hat Linux Enterprise 5.3. I am compiling in 64 bit mode. I have managed to get the code compiled and linked, but when I attempt to execute it, I get a core dump in one of the C library calls (like strcpy or printf.)
I have a static library that contains our own code that makes the call to the C library. If I move the library method into the source file with the main method and rename it to be certain that I am executing my method instead of the method in our library, the call succeeds. Eventually another static library call is made that results in a core dump in the shared object. I compile my library code into a static library with gcc as:

so i have a file that has the following
file1.txt
ID1 age_11 dog_n3 parent_dog_n1
ID1 age_7 dog_n4 parent_dog_n3
ID1 dog_n5 age_4
ID1 dog_n6 age_4

As you can see i would like the output file to be just the dogs, not the otehr information. But because the information is mixed up how can i extract only the dogs? (i cant do and awk '{print }' because the dogs are found in colounm 2 or 3 or sometimes even 4.

I'm wondering about what function/technique the author used to print from the file; I've been looking through the code for a while (particularly io.c) and I haven't been able to figure it out.

I am supposed to take some small files, and print them to a specific printer, such that the small files are concatenated into one file. The file name has to be included in the file that gets printed.
Should I be looking to concatenate the files into one file with the file names included, and then print them?
something like: -printfunction -printername < file*

I am aware that this question has been asked before and I have also tried the solution suggested but I am still not able to figure it out why I am getting some wierd results when I am using printf with a 64 bit signed and unsigned integer in C.I am running Suse 10.2 on a Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2 GHz.I tried to call functions strtol strtoll strtoul and strtoull with different integer sizes and these are the results i get from my program shown below:

I have an image (a photo) in a variable (obtained from a MySQL database), eg. $ary[4]. I wish to display it in my Perl CGI script. My question is, th normal image tag ie. <IMG> takes a SRC parameter of a *file*, whereas I just want to PRINT the image in the variable.

Some context: I'm calling some functions from within a C program and want to measure how long they take to execute. I've done this successfully, calling printf to print the results to the screen. This is reasonably fast. Ideally I'd like these to be dumped to a file, but fprintf presumably has some overhead since it writes to disk? Unless the data is buffered by the kernel and flushed later? What kind of delay can I expect before fprintf returns?
If I redirect the stdout to a file when I instantiate the binary as a process, will calls to printf also experience any overhead from redirection to a file? My aim here is to capture all data in a file, with the minimal amount of coding and effort, but with minimal impact in terms of time overheads for printf calls.

I've got a C program that I've added some 'printf' statements to monitor a couple of variables. When I run this program manually or from a script, the output is displayed on screen. However, I need to change various variables in the 'test.c' file, run 'make clean' and 'make' a few hundred thousand times. I'm using a script to read the variables in and then using sed to do in-place edits of the file. Unfortunately, with this amount of iteration, it is getting rather tired!
Anyway, I've created a script that is working as long I respond to prompts. I've tried the following to no avail: Code: /path/to/script > /tmp/output /path/to/script > /tmp/output 2>&1 /path/to/script | tee (no output even after adding the -a option) In my C program, I have the following 'printf' statement: Code: printf ("variable1: $s variable2: $s",var1,var2); What am I missing? I've worked with redirection before and it's always worked out fine, but this one plain stumps!

I am having trouble keeping the name together and the phone number together, I think due to the white space. I have tried "" and '' it doesn't seem to matter. So it may be my syntax? and does it matter how long the first and last names are.

I am in the process of writing a script to prints prerinting on different printers in a way that directly sends a raw file to the usb lp device file. Kind of like printing to a prn file in windows. Is there any way to accomplish this in linux (i.e. prepare the files before with a print driver and filter then to a raw send?

My code perl code is as below.I want to print the contents of file "/dir/Myfile".But problem is that the file "Myfile" contains html content as below.
<TP_INFO> <Mail> </Mail> </TP_INFO>
So the IE treats it as HTML content and doesnt print the content present in the tags.Can any one help me to print HTML content as plain text?

I'm doing a lot of print to file and selecting pdf. It is an awesome feature. But I'd like to add a location to the "Save in folder" drop down menu. What would be better is to add a location, and then make it the default location. It would also be awesome to change the default from .ps to .pdf. This would greatly speed up my save to file process.

I am running 10.04 beta2 and have installed cups-pdf printing. I can print to the PDF printer and it works fine saving the file to ~/PDF. It saves it with the PDF extension as expected. I am trying to save the file by default to a windows share. I changed the DEVICE URI line to smb://HOME/SERVER/PDF. When I print, the job shows up on the windows share but without a PDF extension

I expected more from ubuntu 10.4 with regards to printing with exact size photos and with poor auto colour printing but the situation remains unchanged! for instance .. the photo size configurations for ubuntu/fspot/gimp and others are not compatible with my printers (HP and Brother) .. here in Europe a typical standard size photo (10x15inches or 150x100mm are not even on the Ubuntu listing? I have tried all listed possibilities including "custom" (which does not seem to ever work correctly?)and the result at best is photos with uneven boarders or at worse my printer goes a bit crazy with much wasted photo paper and expensive ink ...even photos selected for "no boarders" still produces photos with the self same uneven boarders.
I have tried pretty much everything over time following advice in this forum and including using HPlip and updating drivers required for my Brother printer but the root problem seemingly lies with the Ubunto photo size setup listing. Working with Ubuntu over the years I have found that it can do pretty much everything that Windows can do except for this dam ongoing photo quality and configuration problem.

I would like to print full page on a HP Deskjet F4280 using any kind of software (GIMP for example).
I tried to edit the printer ppd file, turned hardware margins off in the print properties in GIMP, yet when I try to print an image 8.5 in wide on letter size paper, GIMP still leaves approx. 1/8in gap on the paper edge.
The printer hardware can do it: when I simply use the copy function it can print to the very edge of the paper.
Question: does anybody know how I need to edit the ppd file (or other config files) to convince GIMP (or other programs) to print using the full page?
