So basically, there is a really cool writing system I have been working on. It could be viewed (for simplification purposes) like an encryption method for the Latin script.
Facts about the writing system: It has a little over 300 symbols. It is syllable-driven. It is highly compositional (eg. "c", "ca", "cae", "ca " and "ci." all map to different symbols - and NOT by overlaying elements) Symbols have medium graphical complexity (comparable to Korean Hangul, or Japanese Hiragana) Has a rather complex set of diacritics (~10, some of which can go on any symbol) Has no ligatures
How transliteration occurs: Sequences of Latin symbols map to certain symbols. Example below:[G][rou][p ][hu][g.]Characters sequences between "[" and "]" map to a single symbol (so it would take only 5 symbols to write "Group hug.").
How I want it to work: I would like to have a daemon that: Intercepts all text displayed on the screen. Converts it to my writing system (changes letter sequences with individual Unicode codes) Leaves unsupported symbols unchanged. Displays all the text on the screen using my font and characters intertwined with the fonts and characters left unchanged.
For example, if you take the following line of C++ code:for (i = 1; i <= n; i++) I would like it displayed like this:[fo][r ]([i ]= [1]; [i ]<= [n]; [i]++) Bold-symbols should be in my Unicode font with special symbols defined for this writing system, and the rest should be in its original font and encoding. Also, I would like this encoding to hold for display-purposes only. The data in the memory should remain unaffected. This also means real-time adjustments: if I open a text editor (say, from the OpenOffice Suite) and I start typing, I would like to see what I type encoded with my writing system, even though the document actually contains Latin letters. This also means that the symbol immediately before the cursor may change as you type.
A strange question, I guess. I'm running processes called from a c main program. The calling is performed (for now) as: FILE * res=popen(ulimit -t 1; prg args); So I can read the stdout of the process as a file and analyze it. The time limit is important for me.
2 questions: 1. How do I get to know if the process terminated on its own or by the ulimit? 2. How do I limit to times that are less than 1 sec (I have many of those).
I know that setrlimit exists, just before I change my whole approach I wanted to see if I can deal with these things from the outside.
Is it ok to read a process output with fgetws? I get segmentation fault when I try that.

I can read the output from the process if I use fgets instead of fgetws.But I am getting special characters in the output for some commands, that is why I wanted to try with fgetws.
I want to know your opinions on the best combination of programming languages to learn if you want to learn more than one. An explanation of your choices would be real nice. I've included a multiple-choice poll that has the langauges from the Member's Choice Awards 2009 list of best programming languages on it. Please vote for your choice of languages also. It should be interesting to see what the numbers are like when people can vote this way, and choose more than one language.I'm voting for Python/C just as an "overall" opinion. It's what I'm going to learn. I've done quite a bit of reading and experimenting and this is what I've personally settled on. My opinion is just a personal "overall" opinion. You can also pick just a single language, and vote for just a single language if you think it's better to learn just one.
Anyone know a manual to tell me the many things about Fedora? Like what is usr or a bin or a lib... Stuff like that I have a month to kill and I want to become an expert on this OS.
have a previous background in internet programming languages such as XHTML, DHTML, CSS and javacsript. I would like to start programming and managing my linux system (like an expert) and starting on linux projects also. My question is which is the best programming language to learn: C, C++ (may b even C+), python, Perl etc... I'm learning BASH right now cause I know its a necessity for linux systems. but what would you guys suggest after that I learn.

I am just starting to learn Linux and am interested in a career in Linux. Actually I wanna go for RHCE, which is the first step for Sys Admin..right?? Basically I do NOT want to go into programming/developing as I don't feel it's my cup of tea (and also may be it sort of boggles me). Still, from what I gather I am having confusions regarding whether I should learn any programming language for a career in Linux.
Here I am avoiding programming..and now I get to hear that Linux career uses programming..That's sort of frustrating...My friend told me I need to "master" C. Do I need to learn some programming language?? If yes, then to how much extent?
So a friend and I are new-ish to linux (I am reasonably comfortable with basic /etc text editing, command admin). We are, however, completely new to programming and (x)html. We have a few (what we think are) interesting ideas for dynamic websites.Ideally we would like to develop our own course of study to get to the point where we have a basic understanding of programming so that our adventures in the programming of a dynamic website would be possible. Much of what we need learn to do is the following: use daily updated public-domain data from several other sites, manipulate that data algorithmically, which would then yield updating output on our site. Here is what I would like to do:
1. learn the basics of programming with a language that would teach good code habits and fundamental understanding. 2. become comfortable with (x)html 3. learn another language for the extension of (x)html into a dynamic data-heavy website.
Question could you please suggest a way about going about 1>2>3?Ideally the language of (1) would be something that would not be "wasted" just on web design etc. As a language, C really appeals to me. However, if learning this wouldn't lend itself to being helpful in learning another language for webdesign maybe I shouldn't use it(?).If (1) weren't to be C, what language would be funadmental enough to teach good coding but also be helpful in learning (3)
I've no experience with IPSec. I've used many times OpenVPN (with static key or certificates x509). Could anyone suggest me a good tutorial in order to learn IPSec vpn with Linux?
I wish to download a free version of Linux x86 (Debian, Mandriva, Red Hat or Ubuntu) so that I can install it and learn linux. The reason why I have mention the above versions is that I need to Install Oracle 10G on it to learn Oracle on Linux x86.

I am doing real time programming in C++, under Linux. I have two processes, let me say A and B. A process is being started periodically, every 5ms. B process is being started every 10ms. The process A is doing data processing. The process B is reading that data and displays it. I am confused about how to run periodically processes. The problem is that the period of process A should be as much as it is possible accurate (5ms). For the process B it isn't so important. I have created independent processes, each in one .cpp file, and I am starting them from bash file. Is that OK? I don't have to make child processes in order to have parallel processes?

and I didn't specified the protocol because I attached my nodes to the JAVA class responsible for the protocol, but when I run it generates errors, it claims the protocol to use, so I don't know how proceeding.
I implemented a SSL client using openssl on Linux and it's working fine i am getting response from server...
But my problem is I have a separate thread for each request comes form front end and i have to do SSL communication in each thread, for this i have to create a separate SSL Context for each thread and this is taking too much time hence my transaction is getting delayed
My question is can we implement Persistent SSL connection where i will do SSL Handshake only at the time of application startup and use that connection in all the threads....
