Programming :: Getting A Short Shell Script Related To PIDs?
Nov 21, 2010
how can I store the output of (ty to colucix for this line)
Code:
xprop -id $(xprop -root | awk '/_NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW(WINDOW)/{print $NF}') | awk '/_NET_WM_PID(CARDINAL)/{print $NF}'
in a variable and then pass the value of that variable to the kill command as the PID to kill?

I am programming on Linux middleware so I need to get a list of all active TCP connections. Is there any API to get such information? I know I can find the connections in /proc/net/tcp, but how to find the PIDs? Apparently ps or netstat command is not an option since it is a middleware.

I have several users on handhelds and they like to let their sessions time out. Their zombie processes then cause record locks.I've come up with calls for killing the pids for any prior sessions started by a given user. This procedure would be executed in the .bash_profile.

I have all of the code written for a text based game but how big of a leap is it from text to graphics? lets just say a 2d engine. Is this a fairly easy task or would it be a bit of effort? I've never done anything with graphics before and would just like a quick idea of how much of a project is graphics vs functionality.

I am wondering if pthread could make that a single thread keeps the "mutex" all the time if the time it remains unlocked is very small.
thread1
{
while (1)
{
lock; do_task(); unlock();
[code]...
I experiment the thread2 never getting access to the mutex and never printing the nice message. I would expect that once thread2 calls "lock", it would get the mutex as soon as thread1 calls unlock() but it does not seem to be the case. If I add a sleep of some microseconds (100) in thread1 after unlocking the mutex, it solves the problem.
Does anyone know if this behaviour is normal? Is there a way to configure my mutex so that thread2 receives it when unlocked?I use
pthread_mutexattr_settype(&att, PTHREAD_MUTEX_RECURSIVE_NP);
pthread_mutex_init(&handle, &att);
to create my mutex. I am running ubuntu 9.04

I want to capture short randomly occurring events such as Sudden Interstellar Disturbances, Lightning, ion counting, etc. To do this I wish to use the LINE-IN port. My sensor would feed a signal of less that 2 volts but could be submitted via a voltage divider. Since the sound card captures 44100 events per second this should capture events I am looking at, I think, but maybe not. I would capture the sound buffer to a string or memory buffer every second (and half second so I can prevent overwriting of its buffer, then merge the two).
Every 60 seconds (for validation) I would run "time" and count full buffer transfers in between to time events. By effectively counting characters from the beginning of the processing buffer to the beginning of the event I could further refine the "time to event". I think I could then save a decent number of values or until no data received from the processing buffer to preserve the event. This I would output with event time (to within 1/44100 sec) along with the data points captured to a file.
Except for the outputting of info to a file I think I can scan a buffer for events within a second (while LINE-IN continues capturing data on that port). I believe I have a way to handle the outputting. I am asking if any of the processing of the previous buffer would interfere with the sound cards data capture on LINE-IN? There would be no disabling of interrupts. I am presuming that system interrupts would not effect the LINE-IN data capture. Is this true?

I have created two threads:
Thread 1 and thread 2
In the main thread, i have put up a timer which generates a signal periodically when it expires, which reults in execution going to signal catcher function.when this function is invoked, under certain condition it goes to thread 1 and under another condition it goes to thread 2. The problem lies here that when it goes to thread2,i have a loop to process but it doesnt come out of the loop and hence from thread2, even though timer has expired.

I'm very excited to post a question, since I always do everything by myself. I'm reading several lines from a text file using istream::getline(char *, streamsize n). I get the file name from the command line. Here is the code:
Code:
#include <iostream>
#include <fstream>
using namespace std;
int main ( int argc, char *argv[])

Using GCC 4.4.5 on Ubuntu 32bit Btw: I know assembly language and know what a segmentation fault is

I've a question regarding two camera images. Suppose I've detected 2d window coordinate of 8 markers of an object in a scene in one camera and detected window coordinates of 10 markers of the same object on another camera.
I've detected the marker. It was easy. Now how do i know which window coordinates on two cameras are the coordinates of same marker? I mean there are markers captured on both cameras and some of them are representing the same marker in both cameras. I just like to know which ones are same on both cameras. Is it possible to find that out using opencv?

I am trying to create a shell script similar to ls, but which only lists directories. I have the first half working (no argument version), but trying to make it accept an argument, I am failing. My logic is sound I think, but I'm missing something on the syntax.
Code:
if [ $# -eq 0 ] ; then
d=`pwd`
for i in * ; do
if test -d $d/$i ; then
echo "$i:"

Is there some type of functional way to read things in the Python shell interpreter similar to less or more in the bash (and other) command line shells?
Example:
Code:
>>> import subprocess
>>> help(subprocess)
...
[pages of stuff to read]
...
I'm hoping so as I hate scrolling and love how less works with simple keystrokes for page-up/page-down/searching etc.

I have a situation where I am in a non-interactive shell. I have tried from within my non-interative shell to spawn an interactive shell but my output still does not goto me. Isn't there a way I can somehow go into /proc or somwhere and make the output my /dev/tty1? Or some way else to remedy this?The situation arises because I drop from my restricted shell environment (a sort of CLI interface), into the actual Linux shell. I cannot change the code of the CLI environment I am just faced with being in the linux shell environment and its non-interactive. Its very annoying to have to put > /dev/tty1 after every command I type.
Not to mention it seems damn near impossible to get pagers like more and less to work properly when your in a non-interactive shell.

Code:
#!/bin/sh
SRC=/var/log/mail.log
DEST=/var/www/output/myFile.txt
VAR=userName@myDomain.tld

Can awk take a shell variable? Or do I have to do something completely different?

ORIG_LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT=`grep log_archive_format $LOG_DIR/init$CLONE_DB.ora | cut -d"=" -f2`
SRC_LOG_ARCHIVE_FORMAT=`sqlplus -s "/ as sysdba" @$SCRIPTS_DIR/log_archive_format.sql`

I'm trying to write a toy linux shell. For starters this is what I'm trying to do:
1. Start a new process with fork.
2. Execute a program in the new process with execl().
3. Redirect the output from the new process from STDOUT to another file descriptor, using dup2(2).
4. In the parent process, read the output from the child process and write it to the screen.
Creating a new process and executing a program in it is no problems, the problem is that I can't seem to capture the output from it in the parent process.
Code:
//digenv
//C++arl 2011-03-24
#include <stdio.h>
#include <sys/types.h>
[code]...
