Programming :: Referencing In Latex Isn't Working?
Jun 28, 2009I have some strange behavior in Latex. I have added labels to all of my tables (currently there are 3) and my figure (currently there is only 1). So far I only notice this behavior with tables, though it may happen with figures as well...I will have to add another figure to test that.However, what is happening is that my list of tables is correctly generating the numbers of the tables (which are 3.1, 3.2, and 4.1). In the resulting PDF document, the tables have the correct numbers in the captions as well. The odd thing is that when I attempt to reference them using ef, it is printing the Chapter.Section[.Subsection] number the table is located in instead of the table's number itself.Right now I have two tables inside of Chapter 3 Section 3. They are as follows:

Apr 30, 2011Would like to know the best way (or the pros and cons of different ways) to set up Alsa. I did a search for information on how to setup alsa on my system. I found a lot of out-of-date information even on the alsa wiki. What I did finally locate was two different methods for setup, both seemed somewhat up-to-date. One method at the alsa wiki said to put part of the information in the modprobe directory in a conf file and set up certain aliases. Earlier suggestions for putting information in modprobe.conf or conf.modprobe appear to be outdated and a directory with separate files for each device and a conf extension to the files is currently used. The second method from a thread on the Debian forum said to use alsactl init, set sound levels the way you want and then use alsactl save and restore functionality. Older methods using alsaconf instead of alsactl init appear to be outdated as well. Not sure where to put the call to alsactl restore though. Didn't notice that in the documentation.In case it matters, I'm running Debian Stable and have a built-in sound card on the motherboard with AC97 compatibility. It's a Realtek ALC882.
Is there a preferred or better method for setting up alsa? Is there a good pointer to instructions that are not out-of-date somewhere? Would be very interested to hear how others set sound up on their machines. What do others recommend as best steps to do this?

May 19, 2010I'm trying to block specific websites, preferably using a portion of the url.
For example, if blocking [url], [url] would also be blocked. This implies that simply blocking a single IP using iptables would not work well.
The names to block will be somewhat dynamic, so a list specification would be ideal.
In my case, the LAN has a mix of linux and ms machines, and they all use a linux gateway currently running dnsmasq.
I find suggestions from using /etc/hosts (might work with yp, but not ideal) on the gateway machine, through to using squid on the gateway machine.

Jan 30, 2009I am running into a small bit of difficulty with images I want to use in a Java program, keeping them bundled with the program in a JAR file and accessing them within the package.For those who are thinking it, this is definitely not homework.In my program, I have several images I would like to use on buttons on a toolbar.I have Googled, and I found something that comes close, but it deals with fetching images from a URL - nothing that deals with local files, more specifically, local images kept inside of a JARchive.

Feb 23, 2010I've got a situation. I'm having GNU bash version 3.00.16(1) on Solaris 10. I need to declare an array say arr1 which will be populated by an output of a command.
declare -a arr1
arr1=( $(/some/command) )
Supposing it will eventually (after executing the command) have element values as -
arr1[0]=1234
arr1[1]=5678
arr1[2]=7890
Now, I need to declare another set of arrays, one for each of the element values above - e.g.
declare -a arr1_1234
declare -a arr1_5678
declare -a arr1_7890
And I also need to populate elements of each of above 3 arrays with output of another command in a loop. So, these arrays will hold values something like -
arr1_1234[0]="abc"
arr1_1234[1]="def"
arr1_1234[2]="ghi"
arr1_5678[0]="jkl"
arr1_5678[1]="mno"
arr1_5678[2]="pqr"
arr1_7890[0]="tuv"

Within the chroot environment I have an iso file placed... In my program I need to access this iso file and perform mount and other operations.. But I cant do this in the chroot environment as I have only basic commands here (ls,cp etc.. and no mount)
So how can I access this iso file from my program ? Is there something like a file-descriptor which I can associate with the file exit from the chroot env and access the file via this fd ?
General :: Getting Emacs Recognizing .tex As Latex And Even Running Latex-mode?
Jul 5, 2010I am a semi-noob on this and I have problems getting my emacs recognizing .tex as latex and even running latex-mode. Usually when you run latex-mode (M-x : latex-mode) emacs should switch to latex-mode, but nothing happens in my case. The menu bar still show the TeX options, highlighting remains the same etc.
I am running emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.10.4), this is on a university system so I don't know much about it.

So far we have implemented rsync to copy files from each workstation under a directory for each workstation on a server (incidentally providing a backup) and have set up text search using Xapian with Omega; users access it via a web browser. Still to do is to set up a system to copy files from each workstation's area on the server to the repository.
Many files are duplicated. In these cases we want to preserve the names but keep a single copy of the file;hard links can be used for that.For each file to be copied from a workstation's area into the collated area we need to check whether it is a duplicate (file size and, if same, MD5 sum) and if so, create a hard link to the original rather than create a copy.A system to detect and replace duplicates in the collated area has been written using ruby and postgresql but the developer cannot commit to continuing this work. It does mean we have a postgresql database populated with "fingerprints" of files in the collated area.My first priority is to get the system working; in the longer term whatever is developed must be maintainable; I do not yet know which language skills are available locally.
I am fluent in bash and competent with awk. Ruby looks nice but I have started to learn python and do think it prudent to learn both at the same time. Python's postgresql capabilities are not settled but may be fine for the simple usage required.What to do? A bash solution would run very slowly but could be developed quickly. Language knowledge aside, I have found it difficult to install ruby on the server (CentOS 5.5;installed rvm but "gem" still not installed; seems a very complex system with its own package management).
