I am creating a document using Latex and I am using the existing article class "documentclass[twocolumn]{article}" The paper needs to have a two column format, but I have figures that I would like to include in a landscape orientation, possibly on a new page, (they appear too small even if I have them span either 1 or both columns).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have made some plots in gnuplot that I wanted to include in a document. I have tried both OpenOffice and Kile.
In openoffice the plots are shown when they are imported, but when I save the document and open it up again the plots are gone (unable to read).
In Kile I can't even import them, It cant find the file in the folder. I tried changing the formats from jpg to png - didn't work. Tried just taking a snapshot of the original plot and saving it, didn't work either (but have used the same method earlier today without problems for a different image).
When i move the cursor across the file, it fades away as if it's not registered correctly. Does anybody have a solution for this?
Some options are disabled because of some mode I'm in (default) but how to change that?

In my debian-5.0.4 OS where I have texlive-latex3 I did it by installing a package called latex-sanskrit. Is there any such package for opensuse-11.2 and which repository contains it? It will be preferable if it can be installed by yast2.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a semi-noob on this and I have problems getting my emacs recognizing .tex as latex and even running latex-mode. Usually when you run latex-mode (M-x : latex-mode) emacs should switch to latex-mode, but nothing happens in my case. The menu bar still show the TeX options, highlighting remains the same etc.
I am running emacs 23.1.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.10.4), this is on a university system so I don't know much about it.

i dont see any error (you might)but every time i run it it runs but after it asks me to input for the width i do it but it doesn't take me to the length, it just stays blank until i input another value in the same place for the width, it asks me for 4 inputs in total i don;t know why, and after i run it different times it gives me different values for the perimeter and are. how can I fix this?
I have some strange behavior in Latex. I have added labels to all of my tables (currently there are 3) and my figure (currently there is only 1). So far I only notice this behavior with tables, though it may happen with figures as well...I will have to add another figure to test that.However, what is happening is that my list of tables is correctly generating the numbers of the tables (which are 3.1, 3.2, and 4.1). In the resulting PDF document, the tables have the correct numbers in the captions as well. The odd thing is that when I attempt to reference them using ef, it is printing the Chapter.Section[.Subsection] number the table is located in instead of the table's number itself.Right now I have two tables inside of Chapter 3 Section 3. They are as follows:

I'm a bit confused on how the memory figures add up in top. If I've understood correctly, the amount of "really" used memory is total - free - buffers - cached. In the example below that would be 14370248k - 75736k - 178892k - 10459552k = 3656068k, which is 25% of the total memory (3656068/14370248). Again, if I've understood correctly, the numbers shown in RES and %MEM columns show the amount of physical memory a process "really" uses. The sum of the RES values of just httpd processes is 7254m, or 7428096k (7254*1024), which is 52% of the total memory (7428096/14370248). The sum of %MEM values of httpd processes is 53%, close enough. How come the summary part shows just 25% of memory being used, while httpd processes alone claim to use over 50% of memory? What am I missing here?

We have documents on multiple workstations and want to collate them into a single repository to provide text search and download. So far we have implemented rsync to copy files from each workstation under a directory for each workstation on a server (incidentally providing a backup) and have set up text search using Xapian with Omega; users access it via a web browser. Still to do is to set up a system to copy files from each workstation's area on the server to the repository.
Many files are duplicated. In these cases we want to preserve the names but keep a single copy of the file;hard links can be used for that.For each file to be copied from a workstation's area into the collated area we need to check whether it is a duplicate (file size and, if same, MD5 sum) and if so, create a hard link to the original rather than create a copy.A system to detect and replace duplicates in the collated area has been written using ruby and postgresql but the developer cannot commit to continuing this work. It does mean we have a postgresql database populated with "fingerprints" of files in the collated area.My first priority is to get the system working; in the longer term whatever is developed must be maintainable; I do not yet know which language skills are available locally.
I am fluent in bash and competent with awk. Ruby looks nice but I have started to learn python and do think it prudent to learn both at the same time. Python's postgresql capabilities are not settled but may be fine for the simple usage required.What to do? A bash solution would run very slowly but could be developed quickly. Language knowledge aside, I have found it difficult to install ruby on the server (CentOS 5.5;installed rvm but "gem" still not installed; seems a very complex system with its own package management).

Problem is simple but I can't figure out how to solve it, I tried any possible way that I know but with no result.I'm using simple perl script with DBI and do select from one table and do update in other table with results from select, but I can't preserve my '' returned from select when doing update. I simply want my '' from first table to be '' in second but postgres makes them real new lines. I've had to do some code in java, a language I'm very much unfamiliarly with so please excuse my incorrect use of terms. The basic outline of my problem is I create a class object as a local within a swing button function it works fine. If I create it as a global ( with I think I need to do ) within main, then prototype it with the other swing objects at the bottom of the file when it is called it causes a host of problems.
