OpenSUSE :: Used "qucs" On An Early Suse 11.x System?

Jul 17, 2011

A while ago I used "qucs" on an early Suse 11.x system. It worked fine. Now I ran into a problem that could nicely be solved with a qucs simulation. So I wanted to install it.However I did not find a package for 11.4/32bit nor did I find any traces of one being under construction. So I tried to compile Rev 0.16 but without success. After installation of a lot of missing Qt stuff which the compiler to proceed a bit further, the run ended in a dead end road - at least for me.So here are my questions:Is there a killing situation that makes 11.4 and qucs incompatible?Has anybody here successfully installed qucs on 11.4/32bit?Is there a package under construction and expected to be working soon?

OpenSUSE Install :: Clock Messed Up 2 Hours Early Or Forward - Idk

Jun 14, 2010

i probably messed up the clock somehow... I think during install. Linux keeps messing up windows clock... And vice versa... When the clock in windows is correct (say, 2 PM), the clock in Linux when i reboot says 4 PM... And when i set up the clock in Linux to the correct time (in this case 2 PM) and boot into windows, windows clock says 12 PM...

Of course, when i correct it in windows, linux clock gets messed up again... 2 hours early or forward, idk... I'm not sure what i did to make this happen... Maybe has something to do with hardware clock... I don't wanna constantly correct time whenever i change systems...

OpenSUSE Install :: Win7 Ate The SUSE After System Restore?

Mar 29, 2011

Hardware issue forced me to restore Win7. Installed EasyBCD to boot into openSUSE, no work. Boot puppy, it shows space where SUSE should be as unallocated space. I think Puppy doesn't see ext4 though. Can't boot live KDE off USB for some reason, though I originally installed from that exact medium. Tried ACPI=off and nomodeset. Error says trouble mounting clic filesystem, mounted as read only. Something like that. Then reboot 120secs, which it never actually does. I don't want to reinstall SUSE if I don't have to.

OpenSUSE :: Running Suse 11.3 64bit And OpenOffice 3.2.1.4 It Installed With The System?

Feb 5, 2011

I am running Suse 11.3 64bit and OpenOffice 3.2.1.4 it installed with the system.OpenOffice's latest is 3.3 something, is there a repository that I can add to continuously update the program? Or do I need to completely remove the present program and install the latest from OpenOffice.org? It would appear that the one that came with the system was pieced together by the Suse team - do they update this at all?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Can't Get A Dual Head System To Work: Suse 11.3?

Oct 6, 2010

I have two identical Samsung monitors. One is connected. to my motherboard VGA port (and appears as a Radeon HD 4200).The other is connected to a VGA port on a separate PCI Radeon 9200 PRO board. When I first installed Suse 11.3, I had to go through the nomodeset boot command (otherwise my system froze up on boot) and I only get video on the screen connected to the motherboard. The other monitor light. flashes which means it's not seeing a video signal. And, I do not have an xorg.conf file in /etc/X11.

So I did the following:

I did an Xorg -config which created an xorg.conf.new file which looked sensible in that it showed both Radeons, and appeared to set up a dual-head system. The only change I made was to change the driver for both controllers from radeon to radeonhd. Then, I copied xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and rebooted. And, nothing is changed. I still need to do nomodeset on boot and I still only get video on the screen connected to the motherboard. I'd attach the xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files, but it says I can't add attachments to this post. I don't see any major errors in the Xorg.0.log file, but a lot of it is greek to me.

OpenSUSE Install :: Back Up Entire System While Still Login Into SUSE?

Apr 28, 2010

Main reason I am using openSUSE currently is because my Windows system's went bad. I haven't been able to easily restore and will probably have to do clean windows install. I want to make sure my entire openSuse system (application/OS setting/etc) backup so I can easily restore of it fast. Since this type of back takes awhile, I would preferably like do this while I am still logged into SUSE. I am where to disk cloning thing like clonezilla, but looks like I would need turn of my system entirely to get this done.

Currently my SUSE root and home are in a partition with another NTFS partition on my hard drive. I really don't want to use 'dd' to clone the entire hard disk. I would much rather store of required partitions in other locations. Hopefully, there is easy to get this done without too much of effort and time.

OpenSUSE Network :: Linksys Wireless WMP600N - Error Suse 11.2 - System Freezes

Feb 13, 2010

I bought the wireless PCI network card WMP600N from Linksys. I tried to connect with my router, but no success. The correct driver is installed(RT2800), the necessary package WPA_supplement is also installed. My providers settings are WPA-PSK with a shared key. Key encryption is TKIP. I can't choose TKIP in the Yast network menu. so i chose passphrase.

the weird thing is that the wifimanager says WEP is on but it's not, at least not in my router and i did not setup WEP to. see picture 6. i had to use manual boot "ifup wlan0" because when i use boot at startup the whole systeem freezes. anyway, when i use ifup wlan0 as root in the konsole, the system also freezes. i have explained it clearly, please take a look a the pictures.

OpenSUSE Network :: SuSE 11.4 - VLANs Cause X86-64 System Using E1000e Module To Hang On Boot?

Jun 10, 2011

Recently, I decided to migrate from SuSE 11.2 to 11.4. My 11.2 installation was working fine with two VLANs and several VMs. I went the route of installing 11.4 from scratch rather than upgrading 11.2.

The installation went smoothly. Afterwards, I ran Yast and changed eth0 to a bonding interface. Then I added two VLANs that used the bonding interface. When I restarted the computer, I saw the following on the console: "Waiting for mandatory devices vlan3005 __NSC__". Then after a 30 second countdown:

"vlan3005 no interface found". The solution to that problem was to add "ETHERDEVICE='eth0'" to /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-eth0.3005". Upon restarting the computer, I could see that DHCP started this time but didn't get an IP address and continued in the background while the rest of the console messages scrolled by. At the point where X kicks in and I should have gotten a GUI login window, the screen goes dark. I cannot get to a console (CTRL-ALT-F1 or F2) or any other GUI login window (CTRL-ALT-F7 F8 or F9).

The computer was completely unresponsive. I could not ssh in to it from another host nor could I ping it. I let it sit for a few minutes but nothing ever appeared on the console. There were no blinking lights on the keyboard. I had to power the computer off. I turned off VLAN trunking on the switch port and the computer booted up fine, without network access, of course. I checked the logs but could find no clues as to what happened. I suspect a kernel problem. However, before I proceed further, I thought I would post my problem here and see if anyone has had a similar problem and perhaps a solution.

Fedora :: 12 Install Barfs At Same (early) Point?

Apr 7, 2010

I'm obviously very stupid, but fedora is polite about it, suggesting it might be a bug. My laptop has 4Gig of am, twin turion. Of dev/sda1 - sda10 I give itsda5 = /boot (40/80M used)sda6 = / (Old fedora install 5G of 19G used)sda7 = /home (9G of 23G used)which is the previous arrangement on fedora 9. Next screen is about a boot loader, and it offers me sda1 or sda6. I tell it go go and play in the traffic and uncheck the box 'install boot loader' I hit 'next' and it crashes, muttering about some python assertation. It offers to save the error, and I say yes, but doesn't - it just saves some other crap.Any ideas, Fedora experts? I'm afraid I'm rusty on fedora, having defected to slackware & slamd64. But I am trying to get back.

I'm very much interested in running Ubuntu (64bit) on the new 15" macbook pro (8,2), but I would like to get a bit more info about it. So if you own a 15" macbook pro.

Following questions:
1) Can you switch of the AMD Radeon GPU to save power?
2) Does the Thunderbolt port allow you to use an external monitor?
3) What is the battery life under Ubuntu? (describe your usage)

Some more 'advanced' questions:
4) Is the quadcore benificial for running full disk encryption (due to the extended AES in Intel's 2.2 i7 cpu)?
5) What kind of IO throughput do you get with and without full disk encryption (please describe if you use SSD or HD incl RPM)
6) Can you tell me the exact type of Broadcom wireless chip used for wifi?

What would be the preferred method to establish a remote desktop session from one 11.2 machine to another 11.2 machine in the same location? No firewalls, local connection only. I've looked at VNC, RDP with xrdp, have not been able to establish a session to desktop. I would rather not use desktop sharing if possible, don't want invitations involved. I got this script that backs up a server and then keeps only the last 10 backups and removes the rest.Problem is, the part where it deletes any backups older than the last 10, it never reaches that. I'm guessing it is because the ftp session somehow exits the script entirely, especially if there is a problem with the ftp session. But just to make sure, I'm wondering if you all can look at the code to see if I am making it exit accidentally. Here's the code. I left out data like ip address and directory/file names for my security purposes.

SUSE :: Total System Failure ?

Sep 23, 2010

I was just trying to get used to everything and I noticed something in the task bar that said you have updates that failed to install (or something along those lines). So I opted to install them manually with YAST2 and during the installation some of the files were failing to download, I was unsure what to do with these files (their was a ton of them, I had to actually sit at my pc for over an hour because I couldn't let it go through on it's own due to all the failing downloads and installs) and so I just decided to skip them, everything seemed to be going along normally. Then my computer froze, so I restarted and tried to boot into opensuse and it kept freezing, (I even went to my brothers house to play the xbox with him for a while) and no matter how long I waited for it wouldn't boot into opensuse. I tried the failsafe mode and it just kept coming up with an error (I probably should have written the error down, I wasn't really thinking about that at the time) and after about half a dozen tries, decided to reformat everything all over again.

So with these failing downloads in YAST2, what am I supposed to do with them? If I retry they just keep failing, so the only other options are abort and skip, am I supposed to skip them or is that what caused this to happen in the first place?
