View 3 RepliesWhen I first set up my computer I had it set to auto log me in (no lectures necessary. I know the risks and I'm not root!). My son needed to do some video editing so I set him up w/an account and turned off the autologin feature. I'm trying to turn it back on now, but it won't. I've gone into Configure Desktop, Advanced tab, Login Manager, entered the requisite root password, and clicked on the Convenience tab. Enable Auto-Login is checked, and my account is selected as the user. However when I power up the machine it always presents the login screen. I've also tried enabling the password-less login but that didn't make a difference.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSuSE 11.4 is a wonderful release, but two chronic problems remain. The most serious is the inability to get Gnome to recognize an intel driver parameter specification in xorg.conf or 50-screen.conf with a predetermined, working screen specification. With the latest update that includes: [url]
Gnome will boot up in a strange resolution with a display of a pink screen and fragments of icons split and duplicated over the display. Teasing open the terminal parameter screen, terminal parameters (resolution, horizontal rate) appear to be correct. The terminal type is 'undefined', whether the screen is operating correctly or not, and any attempt to set defaults are refused. Perhaps the intel driver has not been selected by the operating system. Is there a way to specify a default screen driver?
This has been a chronic problem, now aggravated with the latest update to the point where the computer is now rendered inoperative.
Ironically, the other problem, that of the difficulty in downloading certain update files also remains. Had an elaborate update workaround procedure not been followed, the system would still be usable.
Using Lubuntu 10.10 on a laptop with a Synaptics touchpad. Moving the finger along the right edge of the touchpad acts as a scroll wheel. If the cursor is not in any app window but is in open desktop area - then this scrolling action will transport one to a different desktop. I have two desktops enabled so by moving the the finger along the side up/down I go from Desktop1 to Desktop2 and back.
This deadly for me and causing much hair pulling. I am in the middle of doing something and desktop will change. No matter how careful I am this eventually happens. So for the sake of sanity I have only one desktop.I'd like multiple desktops but I need to turn-off this scrolling feature. I've seen some hacks in config files but they either don't work or have side effects. I want to keep the scrolling in windows were the touchpad scrolling really helps. I just want to turn-off the scrolling between desktops only
I have played around with linux a lot over the last couple of months and every machine and distro appears to have this issue of smooth scrolling being very jumpy.
Currently using ice weasel on debian jessie with xfce and I have a near perfect system other than this issue. Is it possible to fix this?
I have tried disabling hardware acceleration.
Whenever I paste something into a form on a web page using the middle button, Konqueror starts auto-scrolling and I have to click the get it to stop. This is very annoying and I never use auto-scrolling anyway, so is there a way to turn it off? I didn't see anything in Konqueror's settings.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else seeing high CPU usage with this new kernel while using Firefox 4? I didn't have this problem before this update. If I boot into the previous kernel there is no problem surfing the web with Firefox 4
This kernel update has made browsing the web very slow and scrolling the browser window incredibly slow to the point of frustration.
Should this be reported as a bug or an issue with the new kernel or has anyone already reported this issue?
I have this F-10 system with mythtv loaded. After power-on, it always comes up and auto-logs-in the mythtv account. I don't want that anymore. How/where do I go to DISABLE that "feature"?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a few problems with my sound. First off, I don't know exactly what chip it is, but my laptop is an Acer Aspire 6530 running a fully updated Fedora 13. Sound itself works, but that's about as far as it goes. So, here are my problems:Built-in laptop speakers don't auto-mute/turn off whenever something it plugged into the headphones jack.Microphone doesn't seem to work, both the one next to my webcam as well as any mic attached to the mic jack. The webcam itself works fine.I would be really happy if I could get these issues fixed. I was so impressed that I made Fedora my only OS on my laptop, but fixing a few more things would be even better.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed the newest (11.2?) KDE opensuse last night on my computer. Last night everything was fine but while I slept I guess the Linux Gremlins got to my laptop. Now when I scroll down in Firefox the motion is slow and choppy. Has this happened to anyone else? If so what can I do to fix it?
View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing Firefox 3.6.10 on openSUSE 11.3 with kde desktop on T42 I am finding that I lose control of the scrolling function form time to time. The result is that if I click on the down arrow to go down from the top of a page, the window will scroll down to the bottom of page without stopping, even if I take pointer off the arrow. The reverse is also true if I am trying to go up from the bottom of a page. Great for very fast reader but not for me. Is this a problem anybody else has seen? For me it is new to 11.3 but there have been so many Firefox upgrades since I ran 11.2 I cannot determine precisely when it started
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm using Chromium 10 from the build service and just installed the upgrade to version 10. Now there seems to be an issue with scrolling. When i go to reply to an email in gmail there is something weird when i try to scroll. The scrollbar will move like i am scrolling but nothing actually in the text area moves
View 9 Replies View Relatedas the title says my CPU goes on C0 state (100%) on every scroll and then returns down after a couple of seconds.
Is it normal?
I've checked this with powertop (and with my ears because I hear the fan noise...)
It takes about 25 seconds for my Grub to load, about 10-15 seconds of a black screen with flashing cursor before the first (Grub version 1.5 etc) message, then another ten seconds or so with the message "grub loading please wait" (from memory) before the menu appears. Is that normal for a system with three HDs and three different OS (SUSE 11.2 and 11,1, Ubuntu 10.04)? Maybe it is, but it would be nice to shave off a few seconds as Grub now takes longer than booting the OS... Also, when I set the resolution in YaST2 of the Bootloader to my maximum of 1920x1200 (24bit), I get scrolling text over the bootsplash which I didn't get when the resolution was set to the previous value of 1600x1200 (8bit).
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen a notification comes in on KDE, if I am scrolling a window in FF at the same time, the FF page goes smeared and unusable, and stays that way. Is this a known bug or something I can tweak? I will post a screen soon... (I have to wait for a notification!)

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis is a problem I had in Ubuntu some years ago that just seemed to go away; sporadically I will want to select a website by positioning the cursor over the drop-down arrow to the right side of the url box- after the list is displayed it will vanish immediately when I attempt to position the cursor over it to make a selection. Minimizing then maximizing Firefox resolves it.
A minor problem yes - but it would be nice to not have to deal with it.
I use an MS mouse/keyboard combo model 6000 (ver. 2) and for the most part they work great, that is except for a problem with the mouse wheel scrolling through the desktops if the cursor is on a desktop. If the cursor is in/on a window it scrolls through the window as normal.t also scrolls through the desktops if I "side click" the mouse wheel as well. I've run sax2 and the mouse moduledoesn't even appear but my Wacom tablet settings do. Very perplexing to say the least.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI Have installed openSUSE 11.3 using VMWare and liked it so I thought I would install as my main OS. So I downloaded the latest livecd Gnome and created a usb install using imagewriter with suse. I can boot to the initial menu asking if I want to boot the livecd or install. If I choose either it will begin to show a lot of things on the screen scrolling really fast and then the screen will go black. I've waiting up to about 15 minutes with no result.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my touch-pad on my Dell Inspiron 1525. It needs to be adjusted for speed and it starts scrolling unexpectedly. I understand I need to install a driver for it but don't know how. The problem I see with Linux is that it's not easy to install software for new users. I have ran into a few One click Installs and managed to work them out quite easily. Usually the documentation you find online to install programs assumes the end user knows how to install.I need to know how to install the touch-pad driver from start to finish and all steps in between.

While typing thismorning I inadvertently somehow disabled the keyboard (the mouse worked fine).I discovered that the keyboard worked on bootand I could log into my account (or other accounts)with the keyboard, but ONLY within my account wasthe keyboard dead. Rebooting the computer did NOTcure the problemI finally cured it by logging in as root, and renamingthe .kde4 directory in my home directory as .kde4xand then logging back in as myself. But (a) what did I do and how did I do it and (b) isthere a cleaner way to undo this should I do it again?

OpenSUSE 11.4, 64 bit, 4 cores, nvidia graphics, 16 GB of RAM:
Problem is very similar to: Problems playing mkv HD films in opensuse but not windows but with enough differences that I start a new thread:
* playback in VLC does not work -- there is only sound
* playback in SMplayer works, however -- when I scroll forward, the video freezes and sound continues, to unfreeze video I have scroll a tiny bit backward
I tried changing the video ouput driver (in SMplayer) from xv to xv/noveu-nvidia, it didn't help. Please note, that I use the same settings (initially) as before in OS11.1.
I accidentally turned off hotkeys (so now print screen button won't work) so I turned the service back on (in "configure desktop") by hitting "start" but the "print screen" button still won't work.
